The Buzz The official publication of The Dairyland Tin Lizzies May-June 2004 Volume 4 Number 1 N1726 Gladwater Beach Rd Malone, WI 53049
President s Message Keith Gumbinger In the beginning, Henry Ford created the Model T.. and we are fortunate to continue its heritage. Speaking of continuing, I d like to thank all of the members of the Dairyland Tin Lizzies for giving me the opportunity to serve as your President as we continue into the 4 th year of our club. As President, I plan to continue the Model T Tours and events we all enjoy with our Model T s and to continue to make it fun to be a member of the Dairyland Tin Lizzies. Our founder, Jim Rodell, Jr., who served as President for the first 3 years of our club, is definitely a tough act to follow. Not only did Jim spearhead the formation of the club, he also organized many of our club activities, some of which have become annual traditions. THANK YOU JIM! Also, many thanks to Jim s wife, Colleen and son Eric for supporting and encouraging Jim as President. Thank you Colleen and Eric! Thanks also go to our other club officers who are continuing in their positions: Kevin Bruso, Christine Doleshal, Pete Humphrey, and also our Webmaster, Carol Gumbinger. In addition, Jim Rodell Jr. said he will continue to organize our Tin Lizzie University, which has become an annual tradition for our club. Many thanks to each of you! In the Dairyland Tin Lizzies we are fortunate to have a wide variety of talent in our members which contributes greatly to the success of our club. This talent plus the enthusiasm and willingness of our members makes it fun for me to lead the club and adds to the enjoyment for each of our members. We have many activities planned for 2004 as described elsewhere in this issue. A new event this year is a Memorial Day weekend tour to Door County hosted by Dan and Phyllis Schultz. This 3 day, 2 night tour promises to be lots of fun and is a great way to start the summer. The announcement for this has already been emailed or mailed to all members. With all the Model T activities for the coming season, I d better get going and get the T ready! As a reminder to those of you who may have been a little soft on maintenance on your Model T, this is a good time to do a complete maintenance and safety check up on it. Remember, time spent with your Model T is not deducted from your lifespan! Fordially, Keith Gumbinger
Spring Meeting, April 4, 2004 Our Spring Meeting was held at the Old Courthouse Museum in West Bend and a lot was accomplished. President Jim Rodell Jr. chaired the meeting. Committee reports were given on upcoming events as reported elsewhere in this issue of The Buzz. Carol Gumbinger reported that the deadline is August 15th for registration for the Escape to Wisconsin Tour to be held September 14 to 18 th, 2004. The date for our Christmas Party has not yet been decided, but will be finalized at our fall meeting. Pete and Shelly Humphrey are planning a Fall Tour in October details to be announced later. Past event reports were given for the Christmas Party on December 6, 2003 by Christine Doleshal, Tin Lizzie University on February 7, 2004 at Joe Varnas shop, and the Washington County Fair Park Swap Meet on February 29, 2004 by Jim Wright. It was announced that the Ice Cream Social at Mayville on June 27 th has been cancelled due to museum construction. In the last issue of The Buzz there was a survey on how often we should have meetings for the Dairyland Tin Lizzes. The survey results and discussion resulted in it remaining the same at 2 meetings per year, one in the spring and one in the fall. Under new business, a letter was read concerning Fire Ade fire extinguishers and another from the MTFCA concerning donations to the national club. These donations are now tax deductible since the IRS now approves the national club as a 501C3 approved organization. Also under new business it was announced that we have three new members: John J. Archibald, Oshkosh, Jim & Joan Zautner (Jays parents), and Jim & Sandy Drickson of West Bend, who have a 17 T Pickup. Welcome to Dairyland Tin Lizzies! Continuing under new business, it was noted that some members newsletters had been mutilated in the mail. It was suggested that future issues be in envelopes to prevent this from happening. It was also suggested that the newsletters be emailed to those who have email. In order to report club activities to all members in a timely manner, it was decided to do a newsletter every two months = 6 times a year, instead of 4 times per year, and to send it shortly after the 1 st of the month on the months that alternate with the mailing of The Vintage Ford. 2004 tours and events were discussed as described elsewhere in this issue. Jim announced that John and Julie Etta are the proud parents of a baby girl born on March 22 nd named Rachael Ann. Congratulations John and Julie! The last item of business was the election of officers. Jim Rodell Jr., our President for the last 3 years, which is the term limit set by the Model T Ford Club of America, will become our past president. Keith Gumbinger was elected the new President and all of the other officers were reelected to continue in their current offices. After the meeting was adjourned, we went to a nearby restaurant for food and drink.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR!!!!!! Southeast Wisconsin Airfest June 19 & 20, 2004 West Bend Airport State Hwy. 33 East, West Bend The Southeast Wisconsin Airfest has invited the Dairyland Tin Lizzies to display our Model T s at their event to be held over Father s Day weekend, June 19 and 20. The display that we have been invited to participate in will be in a special area, not part of the general old car show being held at the airport during the same time. The air show organizers have offered free airshow admission and free meals to those coming with their Model T s. The hours of the Airfest are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the organizers would like the Model T s to be in place by 8 a.m. the day you are coming, and expect them to stay for the rest of the day. Enclosed in the newsletter is a flyer with more information about the event. If you are planning to attend or have any questions, please call Sue Tupper at 262-334-6127 weekdays between 9 and 3, and tell her you are with the Dairyland Tin Lizzies. Boltonville Sesquicentennial Saturday, June 26, 2004 The small, rural community of Boltonville in northeast Washington County is celebrating 150 years of existence, and is planning a gala celebration the weekend of June 26-27. Activities will include a Civil War encampment, a children s activity and craft tent, old photos and artifacts from the area, old farm machinery and auto displays, walking tours of historic sites, food, refreshments, and music. What better place for a Model T gathering? Jay and Michelle Zautner, members who live near Boltonville, proposed the idea for our club to participate in this historic event, and will be leading our group for the day on Saturday, June 26. This will be the first debut for their 1915 runabout at a Dairyland Tin Lizzies outing. Members who wish to join in the festivities should meet at the cemetery, on Hwy 144 as you enter Boltonville. Be there between 8:30-9:00 a.m. and we will enjoy a pancake breakfast. Our Model T s will become part of the day s attractions, and members are encouraged to take in the various activities taking place. After lunch, we will take a short drive from Boltonville to St. Michaels. Here, we will take advantage of a photo opportunity to re-create a picture which was taken 36 years ago by the Kettle Moraine chapter of the MTFCA, and appeared in the August 8, 1968 edition of the West Bend News and the September-October, 1968 issue of The Vintage Ford.
