Dear Pacific Northwest Tennis Coaches and Teaching Professionals: The USTA Pacific Northwest Section (USTA/PNW) is seeking qualified individuals to coach the section s junior teams in competition this summer. Attached is information for the USTA Boys and Girls National, Intersectional and Zone Team events for your review. This is a great opportunity to meet, travel and coach some of our section s top juniors in a national or regional team event. Minimum qualifications include being a USTA member, being a certified member of the USPTA and/or PTR, having successfully passed the USTA Sports Science Level I test, and submitting to and passing a criminal background check. If you wish to be considered for one of the coaching positions, please read, complete, sign and submit the COACH APPLICATION, SERVICE AGREEMENT and the CRIMINAL RECORDS CHECK CONSENT FORM along with a resume of your tennis coaching achievements no later than Monday, May 12, 2014. SERVICE AGREEMENT This AGREEMENT is made and entered into on the date set forth below by and between: The (USTA/PNW), and (Team Coach). Print Name The individual stated above hereby agrees to act as a Coach for a USTA/PNW endorsed team. In consideration of services being performed, the USTA/PNW shall pay the Team Coach a daily Honorarium as established ($100 a day). Additional payment by the USTA/PNW shall include agreed upon costs and expenses incurred by the Team Coach in performing the Services. Applicants must have a valid credit card as reimbursements will only be made after completing all services. All reimbursements must be accompanied by a receipt and MUST be received at the section office by November 1, 2014. After this date reimbursements may NOT be processed! The Team Coach shall have full authority to perform such services in a manner and in time as the Team Coach deems appropriate so long as the services are completed and the Team Coach follows the regulations as provided by the USTA/PNW. The Team Coach understands that he/she is an independent contractor and shall be responsible for payment of all taxes and shall be provided no coverage for insurance. JUNIOR TEAM COACH SELECTION CRITERIA The following items will be taken into consideration when selecting Coaches for any USTA/PNW Intersectional or Zonal team: An active USPTA/PTR certified teaching professional. An active Competitive Training Center Coach. Experience of coaching at a high level of competition. Experience of team coaching. Passed the USTA Level I Sports Science test. Background check Special consideration may be made for individuals not fulfilling all of the above requirements. Coaches will be evaluated after the event by the Director of Junior Player Development, the players, and/or parents through an evaluation form regarding: Organizational skills; Handling of responsibilities; Attentiveness to the players needs; Knowledge of singles and doubles tactics; Ability to communicate in a positive manner; Support of the players; Knowledge of junior rules and regulations; Respect of the players and parents. In addition, Coaches must adhere to the following: Coaches must be able to use their own credit card for expenses (you will be reimbursed upon submittal of receipts). Coaches will treat all players and parents equally with courtesy and respect. Coaches will not recruit team members to their own personal player development programs. Coaches will be available to players throughout the tournament. Coaches will not act in any manner that is unbecoming of their role. Coaches and team members are representatives of the USTA Pacific Northwest Section and are expected to conduct themselves appropriately. All participants must adhere to the rules and regulations set forth by the event site. Any violations could jeopardize future consideration for other national individual or team events.
JUNIOR TEAM COACH RESPONSIBILITIES ALL TEAMS 1. Coordinate airline reservation to the event site with the Section s recommended travel agency. 2. Coordinate lodging reservation directly with the designated hotel. 3. Attend all designated coaches meetings. 4. Attend all official junior team tournament functions. 5. Coach during match play according to USTA Guidelines. 6. Devise and implement appropriate team practices, pre-match warm-ups, and team meetings. 7. Provide player transportation as needed. 8. Decide the team line up for each match. In addition to responsibilities listed under All Teams, BOYS & GIRLS 16 Intersectional Team 1. Be available to transport team members upon arrival at site airport. 2. Enforce guidelines for participation on and off the court. 3. Enforce tournament guidelines for participants (i.e. curfews, etc). 4. Provide transportation for meals and housing. 5. Coordinate meals according to team needs. 6. Responsible for team members when they are not at host housing/hotel.
