2016-17 OPERATIONAL REVIEW COMPETITIONS LEADING TO A NATIONAL EVENT Last Updated February 15 @ 10:40 am Based on the Competition Review Committee document and conference call comments the Operational Team is prepared to present the following document for the 2016-17 competition season. These changes will be reviewed annually to implement the suggestions that were presented from the CRC document. TANKARD 2015/16 Participation 66 + 12 Challenge Round Entries This event will be combined with the Women s Scotties for the 2016-17 season with a total of ten (10) teams advancing to Provincials. Four (4) open qualifying competitions will be scheduled with three (3) teams each advancing (if a minimum of 33% of Region site is attained) plus two (2) weighted average by participation. The sixteen (16) winners will be joining eight (8) CTRS pre-qualified teams to two (2) Provincial s. A single challenge round will be held with a maximum of sixteen (16) teams with two (2) advancing to Provincials. These eight (8) teams will be combined with two (2) CTRS qualifiers. The playoff round will be a page playoff. QUALIFIERS Hosted in REGIONS 4 CTRS 1-4 2 w/avg EAST Men's Tankard 5-8 12 3 - s - East Challenge 3 - s - West 4 CTRS 9-12 Max 16 2 w/avg WEST 13-16 12 2 - Challenge Round 2 - CTRS Points Leaders The Region sites will be selected from a rotation basis within the Region for hosting, however teams may sign up for any of the sites with no limitations as to which club the team has registered and paid memberships dues for. The team members must belong to the same club prior to entry deadline. The four (4) CTRS teams (points earned between August 15 and conclusion of Canada Cup) that will be entering the competition in the second stage will be seeded 1-4 based on their qualifying position. The remaining teams will be self-seeded for positioning in the draw and compete in a twelve (12) team draw with one A team and two (2) B teams advancing to Provincials. The Challenge round will be open to sixteen (16) teams, if more than this number registers, teams will be accepted based on a points system. The two (2) CTRS leader spots that are offered at Provincials will be calculated based on points earned from August 15 conclusion of Canada Cup annually.
SCOTTIES 2015/16 Participation 29 + 15 2 nd Stage Entries This event will be combined with the Men s Tankard for the 2016-17 season with a total of eight (8) teams advancing to Provincials. Two (2) open qualifying competitions will be scheduled with two (2) teams each advancing (minimum of eight teams required to maintain two qualifiers). A single challenge round will be held with a maximum of sixteen (16) teams with two (2) advancing to Provincials. These six (6) teams will be combined with two (2) CTRS qualifiers. The playoff system will be a semi-final (2 vs 3) advancing to a final game versus the round robin leader. EAST SToH Challenge 2 - East 2 - West 2 - Challenge Round WEST 2 - CTRS Points Leader The s (East/West) sites will be selected from a bid process and rotated amongst the Regions, however teams may sign up for any of the sites with no limitations as to which club the team has registered and paid memberships dues for. To maintain two (2) spots advancing to Provincial the qualifier site must have a minimum of eight (8) teams registered. The team members must belong to the same club prior to entry deadline. Each draw will be self-seeded for positioning in the draws. The Challenge round will be open to sixteen (16) teams, if more than this number registers teams will be accepted based on a points system. U-21 (was JUNIOR MEN & WOMEN) 2015/16 Participation Men 40 and Women - 38 For the 2016-17 season a total of eight (8) teams will advance to Provincials. Three (3) open qualifying competitions will be scheduled with two (2) teams each advancing. A single challenge round will be held with a maximum of twenty-four (24) teams with two (2) advancing to Provincials. These eight (8) teams will compete at Provincials. The playoff system will be a semi-final (2 vs 3) advancing to a final game versus the round robin leader. 1 2 U-21 2-1 2-2 3 2-3 2-2nd Stage 2nd Stage The s sites will be rotated amongst the Zones, however teams may sign up for any of the sites with no limitations as to which club the team has registered and paid memberships dues for. The 2 nd Stage round will be open to twenty-four (24) teams, if more than this U-18 (was BANTAM BOYS & GIRLS) 2015/16 Participation Boys 66 and Girls 59 This event will follow the same protocol as the U-21 event, without a challenge round, qualifying process and Provincials. Competitors must be under eighteen (18) years of age at December 31 of the Championship year. SENIOR 2015/16 Participation Men 80, Women 49 SENIOR MEN S CHAMPIONSHIP This event will consist of six (6) pre-qualifiers to three provincial qualifiers for the 2016-17 season with a total of eight (8) teams advancing to Provincials. Six (6) pre-qualifiers will advance teams to three (3) qualifiers with two (2) spots advancing from each to the Provincials. An open Challenge Round for a maximum of sixteen (16) teams will also advance two (2) teams to the Provincials. The eight (8) team field will play a round robin with a semi-final (2 vs 3) to a final vs the top seeded team from the round robin. QUALIFIERS Qualifying Sites 1-2-3 +2 W/avg EAST 4-5-6 Challenge Round 8 Maximum 16 7-8 CENTRAL SENIOR +2 W/avg MEN 9-10-11 8 2 - East s 2 - Central s 2 - West s 12-13-14 WEST 2 - Challenge 15-16 +2 W/avg 8 The Pre-s sites will be rotated within the combined Zones, however teams may sign up for any of the sites with no limitations as to which club the team has registered and paid memberships dues for.

The 2 nd Stage round will be open to twenty-four (24) teams, if more than this MASTER MEN & WOMEN 2015/16 Participation Men 81 and Women 27 This event will follow the same protocol as the Senior Men & Women event with same qualifying process and Provincials without a challenge round. A playoff format will be introduced with a semi-final (2 vs 3) with the winner advancing to the Final against the first seed. Master Men will sign-up for eight (8) qualifiers with eight (8) teams advancing from each of those qualifiers to one (1) of four (4) regions. With two (2) teams each advancing to Provincials. Master Women will sign up for one (1) of three (3) region qualifiers with two (2) teams each advancing to Provincials. The Region with the most entries will also receive an extra Provincial Entry. If two Regions are tied with the largest number of entries a coin toss will be conducted to award an extra position.
MIXED 2015/16 Participation - 55 For the 2016-17 season a total of eight (8) teams will advance to Provincials. Three (3) open qualifying competitions will be scheduled with two (2) teams each advancing. A single challenge round will be held with a maximum of twenty-four (24) teams with two (2) advancing to Provincials. These eight (8) teams will compete at Provincials. The playoff system will be a semi-final (2 vs 3) advancing to a final game versus the round robin leader. 1 2 MIXED 2-1 2-2 3 2-3 2-2nd Stage 2nd Stage The s sites will be rotated amongst the Zones, however teams may sign up for any of the sites with no limitations as to which club the team has registered and paid memberships dues for. The 2 nd Stage round will be open to twenty-four (24) teams, if more than this CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP 2015/16 Participation Men s 80, Women 75 No changes proposed from the current system. will participate in a combined Zones process with each combined Zone advancing two (2) teams directly to Provincials, another two (2) teams will be awarded to the two (2) Zones with the most entries. In the case of a tied combined Zone for total entries the tie-breaker will be based on percentage of clubs participating over clubs in combined Zone. The provincial will be two pools of five (5) round robin with a four team semi-final (1 Pool A vs 2 Pool B, 1 Pool B vs 2 Pool A) and the winner advancing to a final. MIXED DOUBLES 2015/16 Participation 61 Four (4) Open qualifiers advancing twelve (12) three (3) teams per qualifier to Provincials. The Provincials will be a twelve (12) team triple with six (6) qualifiers to a single playoff pool. WHEELCHAIR 2015/16 Participation 5 Open Provincial with teams competing in a round robin to a semi-final (2 vs 3) with the winner facing the top seed in a final.
