Philadelphia Phillies (30-23) vs. LOS ANGELES DODGERS (26-29) RHP Aaron Nola (6-2, 2.27) vs. LHP Clayton Kershaw (1-4, 2.86) Thursday, May 31, 2018 4:35 p.m. PST Dodger Stadium Los Angeles, CA Game 56 Home Game 31 (14-16) Day Game 16 (8-7) TV: SNLA; SNLA Spanish Radio: AM 570 (English); KTNQ 1020 AM (Spanish) MOMENTUM SWING: The Dodgers this afternoon close out a season-long tying 10-game, 11-day homestand (6-3) as they try to win a fourth consecutive series for the first time in 2018 and for the first time overall since winning nine series in-a-row from July 24-Aug. 24, 2017. With last night s victory, the Dodgers have now won 10 of 13 games since May 17. Following the late afternoon start today, the Boys in Blue will fly to Denver for a three-game weekend series at Coors Field against the Rockies, beginning Friday night. After an off day Monday in Pittsburgh, Los Angeles has a three-game series with the Pirates next week, beginning Tuesday night at PNC Park. The Dodgers took four of seven games from the Phillies in 2017 and swept Philadelphia in a three-game matchup last year at Dodger Stadium. Since the start of the 2015 campaign, the Dodgers have won 10 of 13 games against the Fightins at Chavez Ravine. The Dodgers have gone 9-6 against NL East opponents this season, including winning six of their last seven games. Last season, Los Angeles went 24-10 (.706) against the NL East, which is the fourth best winning percentage vs. the east since the current divisional setup (since 1994) in a single season (min. 20 G). The record mark of.733 (33-12) is held by the 1999 D-backs. The Dodgers need a victory this afternoon to clinch a winning record in May (currently 14-13) after going 11-14 in March/April. THE STARS TAKE WASHINGTON: Tomorrow, Major League Baseball will mark the official start of All-Star Balloting at 9:00 a.m. PT for the 2018 MLB All-Star Game presented by Mastercard, which will be held on Tuesday, July 17 th at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. For the fourth consecutive season, MLB s All-Star Balloting Program will be conducted exclusively online and via mobile devices at MLB.com, all 30 Club web sites and the MLB At Bat and MLB Ballpark mobile apps. Beginning on Friday, fans around the world can cast their votes for starters a total of 35 times with the 2018 Camping World MLB All- Star Ballot, including a maximum of five valid ballots cast in any 24- hour period. The AL squad will be managed by A.J. Hinch of the defending World Series Champion Houston Astros, while the NL team will be led by Dave Roberts of the defending NL Champion Los Angeles Dodgers. Following the announcement of the American League and National League All-Star rosters, fans will begin voting to select the final player for each League s 32-man roster via the 2018 Camping World MLB All-Star Final Vote, which Justin Turner won last year. SIGHT FOR SORE EYES: Prior to the game, the Dodgers reinstated seven-time All-Star hurler Clayton Kershaw, who will make his eighth start of the season today. Kershaw was placed on the 10-day disabled list May 6 and missed the last 21 games with left bicep tendonitis. On the season, the three-time Cy Young award winner is 1-4 with a 2.86 ERA (14 ER/44.0 IP) while striking out 48 against just 10 walks. The Dodgers went 11-10 with Kershaw sidelined. In 12 career starts against Philadelphia, Kershaw has gone 3-5 with a 3.16 ERA (27 ER/77.0 IP) and has held hitters to a.215 average, while striking out 86 against just 21 walks. Kershaw has a losing record against just three Major League teams The Phillies (3-5, 12 GS), the Pirates (2-3, 11 GS) and the Texas Rangers (0-1, 1 GS). In five starts against the Phillies at Dodger Stadium, Kershaw is 1-2 with a 2.10 ERA (8 ER/34.1 IP) with 44 strikeouts against just seven walks. The native of Texas has posted a 1.02 WHIP vs. Philadelphia over the course of his career. May 31 is the latest date Kershaw has stood with just one win on the season since his rookie season in 2008, when he was selected to the roster on May 25 and didn t earn his second victory until Aug. 7, 2008. In order to make room on the active roster for Kershaw, the Dodgers optioned ambidextrous pitcher Pat Venditte to Triple- A Oklahoma City.
