It marked the second time PEOPLES has gone five or more innings without allowing a run in seven starts Lynchburg added another run in the seventh and two more in the eighth to make it 6-0 CASTILLO drove in LF MIKE PAPI with a sacrifice fly in the seventh...zimmer singled to lead off the eighth and was able to make it all the way to third on an error in center by COLE STURGEON NELLIE RODRIGUEZ followed by producing his second sacrifice fly of the evening to score ZIMMER One batter later, C ERIC HAASE hit one over the centerfield wall for his second homer of the season, and it was a six-run lead for the Hillcats Salem was able to score one in the eighth, but the Hillcats cruised to a 6-1 victory in the first of a three game set VS. SALEM: Lynchburg will play Salem more than any other opponent this year with 26 meetings...this week marks the first time these teams will square off in 2015...Last year, both the Hillcats and the Carolina Mudcats (2014 Indians High-A affiliate) went 9-11 against the Red Sox...Carolina struggled offensively in the series, only hitting.243...2b JAMES ROBERTS has the best batting average of any returning Mudcat after posting a.263 clip against Salem, but he only had one double and one RBI in 18 games...current Mudcats pitchers were a combined 2-5 against Salem last year with a 4.99 ERA... GOING STREAKING: With a 2-for-4 performance last night, INF JOE SEVER extended his hitting streak to a league-best 11 straight games Possibly as impressive, the streak began with SEVER notching at least one extra-base hit in the first eight contests During this span, SEVER has raised his season batting average from.203 to.283 and his slugging percentage from.281 to.472 Over his last 11 games, he has four doubles, a triple and three home runs... STRANGE, BUT TRUE: Despite entering today tied for the worst record in the Carolina League, Lynchburg leads the circuit in a wide range of offensive categories, including runs scored (166), RBIs (150), home runs (27), total bases (474), hit by pitch (17), stolen base success rate (82.0 percent) and slugging percentage (.374) The Cats also rank second with 64 doubles and third with 12 triples Individually, OF BRADLEY ZIMMER leads the Carolina League with six homers while OF LUIGI RODRIGUEZ and 1B NELLIE RODRIGUEZ are tied for second with five apiece SS IVAN CASTILLO leads all players with five triples ON THE OTHER HAND: Lynchburg also leads the league in a couple dubious offensive categories, including 321 strikeouts (8.2 per game) and 263 men left on base (6.7 stranded per contest) Five different Hillcats are averaging more than one strikeout per game OF CLINT FRAZIER and BRADLEY ZIMMER are tied for third in the league with 40 strikeouts each, and OF MIKE PAPI and 1B NELLIE RODRGUEZ are tied for fifth with 39 punchouts IT S CALLED A ROTATION : With RHP ADAM PLUTKO scheduled to start, tonight marks the first time all season that the Hillcats have had the same five starting pitchers complete consecutive trips through the rotation in the same order RHP DYLAN BAKER went on the Disabled List after starting Opening Day Since then, the rotation has also been altered due to four doubleheaders and DL stints by LHPs LUIS LUGO and MIKE RAYL WELCOME TO THE TRIBE! Lynchburg s 20th anniversary season of becoming the Hillcats will also mark its first as the Advanced-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians Cleveland becomes the 11th Major League Baseball team to place an affiliate in Lynchburg, as City Stadium has previously been the host to affiliates of the St. Louis Cardinals, Washington Senators, Chicago White Sox, Minnesota Twins, Texas Rangers, New York Mets, Boston Red Sox, Pittsburgh Pirates, Cincinnati Reds and Atlanta Braves Lynchburg s longest partnership lasted with the Pirates when Pittsburgh kept its affiliate in Lynchburg for 15 seasons from 1995 to 2009 HEY, BUD: Mark Budzinski becomes the 18th manager in Lynchburg since the team adopted the Hillcats nickname in 1995... Considering that nearly averages to one per year, it s remarkable that Budzinski is actually the first manager other than Luis Salazar to hold the Lynchburg post since 2010...Salazar managed Lynchburg all four seasons that the Hillcats were affiliated with the Atlanta Braves...Salazar remains in the Carolina League for a fifth season, but now he is with the Braves new affiliate, the Carolina Mudcats... ***** 7-TIME CAROLINA LEAGUE CHAMPIONS: 1978 1983 1984 1997 2002 2009 2012

He picked up his third win of the season against the Frederick Keys by going six innings, allowing two runs on six hits, and striking out six... He allowed a run in the first on a sacrifice fly from Drew Dosch and another run in the fifth on a single from Gregory Lorenzo... That would be all the Keys could muster against the righty and the Hillcats scored six runs in support, including five in the fourth frame...it was Plutko s sixth quality start in seven chances. Against Opponent: Made three starts against Salem in 2014 as a member of the Carolina Mudcats... Plutko went 1-2 with a 4.50 ERA... His win was a seven inning, no earned runs performance on July 29... He allowed five hits, allowed one unearned run, and struckout four... The seven innings matched his longest outing of his career at the high-a level... He has gone over seven innings one time in his professional career... He went eight innings against the Bowling Green Hot Rods on May 8, 2014 as a member of the Lake County Captains. 2015 Season Highlights: Plutko was named the Carolina League Pitcher of the Week for the week of May 4-10... He made one start in that span, striking out a season-high eight hitters in 6.2 innings of shutout baseball against the Wilmington Blue Rocks... He scattered five hits and didn t allow any player to get past second base... The former College World Series MVP for the UCLA Bruins earned his second win of the season, despite a sparkling 1.23 ERA over six starts... The outing was the second time he didn t allow a run in a start this season... He previously held Carolina to two hits and no runs over six innings on April 28... In his seven starts, Plutko has been nothing short of magnificent... He hasn t allowed more than two runs in any contest so far, he s only allowed two twice... He s surrendered seven earned runs this season and four in his last four starts... He has six quality starts... The only game that didn t earn a quality start, he went five innings and allowed one run, one inning short of earning the quality tag... Finally, opponents are hitting.192 against him, including a.139 mark for righties. 2014: Had his best start as a pro on May 8 with Lake County... Plutko turned in 8 innings, allowed 3 hits, and struck out a career-high 13 hitters against Bowling Green to pick up his second win of the season...took a no decision and a tough luck loss in his two best outings in the Carolina League... June 13 in the second half of a double header at Wilmington, Plutko went six shutout innings, allowed only three hits, and struck out seven... He exited with a 3-0 lead, but a rough outing for the bullpen cost him a win in a game the Mudcats ended up winning 4-3 in eight innings...august 14 at Myrtle Beach, Plutko went seven innings, allowed two hits, but one of them left the park and he took a 1-0 loss. Career Notes: 2014- Plutko combined to go 7-10 with a 4.03 ERA (67 ER in 149.2 IP), 4.80 SO/ BB ratio and finished second in the organization with 144 strikeouts between Lake County and Carolina...earned Midwest League Pitcher of the Week for May 5-12...Played 3 seasons at UCLA...
