GLOBAL GIVE BACK CIRCLE VOLUNTEER TRIP TO KENYA For MENTORS & FRIENDS & FAMILIES October 6 13, 2018 1

TRIP DETAILS DAY 1: OCT 6 th ARRIVE IN NAIROBI Arrive at Nairobi s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport where you will be met by a representative from the Norfolk Hotel and transferred to the hotel. The Norfolk Hotel has played a leading role in Kenya's colorful history, as the city of Nairobi grew up around it. The hotel was renovated for its centennial and offers various restaurants and bars, a heated outdoor swimming pool, health club with gym, sauna and steam room, beauty salon, book shop and gift shops. All guest rooms are luxuriously furnished with plush carpeting and soft furnishings and have telephone, a television linked to a satellite dish and air conditioning. You will overnight at the hotel in a deluxe room and make your own dinner arrangements this day. DAY 2: OCT 7 th NAIROBI Today, after breakfast, you will partake in a thorough orientation of all program events which will take place throughout the trip especially an orientation about West Pokot. We highly recommend you take your lunch at the hotel and experience the Lord Delamere Terrace, an East Africa destination point since 1904. The Lord Delamere was patronized by the first European pioneer settlers and is steeped in history. The restaurant continues to be a favorite amongst international travelers and local residents and has a lively and vibrant ambiance all week. 2

After lunch, you will either relax at the hotel or partake in an afternoon excursion. The hotel can arrange for their car service to take you to a variety of local attestations, such as Giraffe Manor, the Nairobi Museum and the Masai Market. You will be expected to pay for these excursions. You will overnight at the hotel in a deluxe room and make your own lunch and dinner arrangements this day. DAY 3: OCT 8 th NAIROBI KITALE WEST POKOT After breakfast at the hotel, you will be transferred to Wilson Airport for a flight to Kitale at around 8:00 AM. The flight is approximately one hour. At the Kitale airport you will be met by representatives and transferred in 4x4 vehicles to St. Elizabeth Secondary School in West Pokot. The drive is approx two hours and a security team will be provided. The 4x4 vehicals and security team will a part of your itinerary throughout you stay in West Pokot. On arrival there is time to freshen- up and settle into your tented accommodation. A Tented Camp will be set up on the school grounds. The tents offer comfortable accommodation and are designed to accommodate two people. Tents are furnished with beds, cotton bed linen, carpets, bedside table, table and chairs, safari washing stand and shaving mirror on the veranda and safari shower, safari basin and port- o- john. Soap, toilet tissue, tissues and insect spray will also be provided. As soon as you have settled in you will meet your mentee (if you are a mentor to a girl in West Pokot) and you will also meet many of the other girls in the West Pokot program. You will have lunch with your mentee and she will share every meal with you throughout your stay in West Pokot! 3

After lunch, you will visit the students in the Primary School and Secondary School. You will partake in an organized Give- back project at the school. These projects are decided closer to the date, but could be anything from helping with the building of a new classroom, constructing desks and chairs for the classrooms, sewing uniforms for new students, harvesting a crop at the sustainability farm, or teaching lessons at the school. Afterwards, you will be given time to take a shower. Imagine, the water will have been heated over a fire and placed in a portable water bucket on top of your private shower in the middle of the most beautiful landscape in Africa! You will end this amazing day around a campfire dinner with your mentee and the rest of the group. DAY 4: OCT 9 th WEST POKOT After waking up to the call of the local livestock, you will have a bush breakfast of typical Kenyan food. Kenyan food is very healthy and tasty lots of cooked greens, rice, beans, beetroot, cabbage, turnips and corn. World Vision Kenya will meet with you and share with you the impact of the Global Give Back Circle Girls of Vision program in West Pokot and allow you to interact and learn about the local culture and the vision for the future as girls are empowered to continue their education and experience economic freedom. You will then set out on a journey to visit the home of one of the girls in the program. You will be given a boxed lunch to eat in vehicle, so as to dedicate as much time as possible to your experience while in West Pokot. The home visit is set up so that you can understand how more about the culture and customs of the Pokot people. You will also meet others members of the local community and you will participate in a give- back project, designed to help the family you are visiting. It could be anything from thatching a new roof for the house to making several trips, on foot, to a local bore hole in the village, and carrying water (on your head if you are so inclined) back to the home for the family to use for a multitude of daily needs. After the home visit and give- back project, you will be taken back to the Tented Camp for a hot shower before a campfire dinner with entertainment, provided by the girls in the program. 4

DAY 5: OCT 10 th WEST POKOT By now you will be well into the swing of things in West Pokot and you may even find yourself rising with the sun and watching it warm the valleys and the plains of West Pokot. After breakfast you will be taken to another home visit, in a completely different part of the region. This visit will also include a visit to the local village where the family trades and socializes with the local community. Here you will be able to purchase local arts and crafts, made by the people in the village. After a picnic lunch, a village give- back project will be set up, and you and the other members of the group will leave behind something which leverages your skills and talents and members of the village will share with you certain skills and talents which you will cherish. Everyone will learn and grow in the local exchange of skills and talents. You will return to the tented camp in time for a hot shower, one last campfire dinner and a farewell celebration with all of the girls and team members you will have come to know so well by this time. DAY 6: OCT 11 th WEST POKOT KITALE MASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE (SAFARI) After breakfast at the Tented Camp, you will be transferred back to Kitale Airport to catch a flight to Wilson Airport (in Nairobi). You will then transfer to a flight to the Masai Mara. On arrival in the Mara, you will be met by Driver Guides from the Sarova Mara Game Camp and transferred to the camp in 4X4 safari vehicles. 5

You will arrive at the camp in time for lunch. This afternoon there is time to relax at the camp, before your late afternoon game drive in the Masai Mara Reserve. You will return to the camp for dinner. Sarova Mara Game Camp is nestled amidst rich indigenous flora and the camp boasts an extensive collection of exotic birds and butterflies that have taken up residence in the lush surroundings. There is a swimming pool where you can relax during the hot afternoons. The tents are spacious with en- suite bathrooms. 6

DAY 7: OCT 12 th MASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE (SAFARI) The Masai Mara is one of Africa s greatest wildlife reserves. Acacia dotted plains, tree- lined rivers and woodlands are abundant with wildlife and an array of birdlife. Game viewing is spectacular year round; you may see a pride of lions stalking their prey, observe a herd of elephant and their fascinating social structure, or see pods of hippo wallowing in the rivers. The great wildebeest migration is one of nature s wonders; an estimated two million animals migrate in a year- round pattern through Tanzania and Kenya following the rain. This day, you will wake up very early and go out on the morning game drive. You will come back to the camp for a breakfast and spend the afternoon relaxing or visiting a traditional Masai Village. You will learn about the culture and traditions of the Masai tribe. After lunch, you will go for another late afternoon game drive and return back to the camp for dinner. 7

DAY 8: OCT 13 th MASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE (SAFARI) NAIROBI HOME You will wake up once again, very early, and go out on the morning game drive. You will come back to the camp for breakfast, after which you will say goodbye to the guides, chefs, storytellers and so many who made your safari experience so spectacular. You will be transferred to the landing strip to catch your plane back to Wilson Airport. The one- hour flight from the Masai Mara to Nairobi is breath- taking. Keep your camera next to you during this part of the journey too. You will arrive in Nairobi around noon. Wilson Airport is a small airport for domestic flights. Chances are, you will be heading home on this day and your flight is leaving from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, which requires transfer time of approximately one hour. Our representatives will be at Wilson Airport to meet you when you land. They will introduce you to shuttle van drivers who will transport you to the Joma Kenyatta International Airport. You will be required to pay your shuttle van driver directly for your transfer. Most international flights leave at night, anywhere from 8 PM 11:30 PM. We recommend you consider booking a day room at the Four Points Sheraton located at the International Terminal. This will allow you to shower, go to the gym, book a massage, re- pack your bags, enjoy a dinner, work on your computer or just relax before your long flight home. The Sheraton will include your transfer costs (from Wilson Airport) into the packaged price of your day- room booking.
