A complete list of the nation s top 25 can be found on page three. WHAT S A REGIONAL QUALIFYING SCORE (RQS) Beginning on Feb. 19, teams and gymnasts are ranked nationally by their regional qualifying score (RQS). A team or gymnast s RQS is based on their top six regular-season scores, three of which must come from away meets. RQS is calculated by dropping the team or gymnast s highest of the six scores and averaging the remaining five. LSU RANKED ON ALL FOUR INDIVIDUAL EVENTS For the third straight week LSU is ranked nationally on each of the four individual events. The Tigers held steady at No. 2 on the vault with a RQS of 49.255. They improved one position to No. 9 on the bars (48.885) and nine spots to No. 15 on the beam (48.400), while slipping one spot to No. 13 on the floor (48.810). CLARE-KEARNEY NATION S TOP-RANKED VAULT PERFORMER After six straight weeks ranked at No. 2 in the nation on the vault, junior Ashleigh Clare-Kearney has earned a spot atop the event s national rankings this week. Clare-Kearney is tied with Nebraska s Emily Parsons for the No. 1 spot as each owns a near-perfect RQS of 9.945. Clare-Kearney has not scored below a 9.850 on the vault all season and has posted six scores of 9.925 or better to date. For her efforts, Clare-Kearney has won the vault title in six of the Tigers seven meets this season, posting scores of 9.925 or better in each of those victories. LSU ALL-AROUNDERS AMONG NATION S BEST LSU s three all-arounders -- Kelly Phelan, Ashleigh Clare-Kearney and Nicki Butler -- have proven to be three of the best in the country this season as each is ranked among the NCAA s top 20 in the latest individual national rankings. Phelan leads the trio with a No. 12 ranking and a 39.070 RQS. Clare- Kearney and Butler aren t far behind at No. 14 and No. 16, respectively, with RQSs of 39.035 and 38.985. In addition, each of the three athletes are also ranked on at least one individual event. Clare- Kearney in the nation s top-ranked vaulter (9.945), while Phelan and Butler are tied at No. 8 on the event (9.875). In addition, Phelan is listed at No. 13 on the floor with a RQS of 9.845. KLEIN FINDS SUCCESS ON FLOOR Sophomore Lauren Klein has found tremendous success on the floor this season, earning a top 15 national ranking on the event, while also winning a LSU-best three meet titles. A native of the Woodlands, Texas, Klein earned her first ever national ranking this week, entering the floor standings at No. 12 with a team-best RQS of 9.860. The ranking comes behind a pair of back-to-back victories on the floor on the floor against Kentucky (2/9, 9.900) and Auburn (2/16, 9.900). She also picked up a title against Illinois (1/19) where she scored a career-high 9.925. To date, Klein is averaging a 9.786 on the floor this season, and has posted four scores of 9.900 or better. BREAUX GETS 500TH CAREER VICTORY With the Tigers 196.500-195.575 win over Arkansas on Jan. 26 head coach D-D Breaux reached another impressive career milestone as she picked up her 500th career victory. Breaux, who is in her 30th season at the helm of the Tigers program, entered the 2007 campaign with 495-302-7 (.620) career record, a slate that included a 347-187-5 mark in the regular season and a 148-115-2 record in the postseason. With a pair of wins at the Super Six Challenge and five dual meet victories this season, Breaux is now a member of an elite group of college gymnastics coaches with 500 or more career victories.

HOW BREAUX STACKS UP In 30 years as the leader of the Tiger gymnastics program head coach D-D Breaux has outlasted most. At LSU, she is the longest tenured coach in school history, outlasting Dale Brown (Men s basketball, 25 years), Karen Bahnsen (Women s golf, 23 years), Harry Rabenhorst (Baseball, 23 years) and Sue Gunter (Women s basketball, 22 years) just to name a few. Among active NCAA gymnastics coaches, Breaux is tied with Utah State s Ray Corn for the fifth longest tenure. In addition, she ranks fifth among active coaches in career wins, with 502. Below is a comparison of how she stacks ups: Coach, School Barbara Tonry, Yale Greg Marsden, Utah Linda Burdette, W. Junior Ashleigh Clare-Kearney has won the event crown a teamleading six times -- at the Super Six Challenge (1/5, 10.00) and against Iowa (1/12, 9.925), Illinois (1/19, 9.925), Georgia (2/2, 9.925), Kentucky (2/9, 9.975) and Auburn (2/16, 9.975) -- while senior Kelly Phelan picked up the event title once, versus Arkansas (1/26, 9.900). ALL-AROUND WINNERS LSU has had two different athletes earn all-around victories in its seven meets to date. Ashleigh Clare- Kearney and Phelan have both picked up a pair of victories as Clare-Kearney was victorious against Iowa (1/12, 39.425) and Auburn (2/16, 39.375), while Phelan finished on top against Arkansas (1/26, 39.325) and Kentucky (2/9, 39.325). HUBBARD SWINGS TO SUCCESS Freshman Summer Hubbard has experienced tremendous success on the bars in her inaugural campaign. The St. Petersburg, Fla., native owns a 9.736 season average on the event and has won a teamhigh tying two bars titles to date. Hubbard earned her first career victory against Illinois (1/12) after notching a 9.850. She followed that with a career-high 9.875 effort against Arkansas (1/26) to win her second bars title. CLARE-KEARNEY RECOGNIZED BY THE CONFERENCE Junior Ashleigh Clare-Kearney was named the SEC Gymnast of the Week on Jan. 16 following an exceptional performance in the Tigers win over Iowa (1/12). The Manchester, Conn., won the meet's allaround title after tallying a season-high 39.425. In addition to the all-around victory, Clare-Kearney also picked up individual event titles on the vault and beam. She tied with teammate Nicki Butler for top honors on the vault, as each posted a 9.925, and then won the beam crown outright with a season-high 9.850. The league honor was the first of Clare-Kearney's career and the first for a LSU athlete this season. A PERFECT RETURN After missing all but the first meet of the 2006 season with a foot injury, junior Ashleigh Clare-Kearney couldn t have asked for a better return to the competitive arena as she scored a perfect 10.00 on the vault in the first rotation at the season-opening Super Six Challenge (1/5). The Manchester, Conn., native landed her full-twisting layout yurchenko vault on a dime in garnering the perfect mark. The 10.00 was the first of Clare-Kearney s career and the first by a LSU athlete since the 2005 season. She is also just the fourth athlete in LSU history to record a perfect mark on the vault. ESPOSITO BACK HOME Junior transfer Kristi Esposito has returned to her home state of Louisiana to compete for the Tigers in 2007 after spending two seasons at the University of Nebraska. A native of Slidell, Esposito turned in two stellar years of competition with the Huskers, winning a trio of All-America honors. As a freshman, Esposito won the Big 12 bars title and went on to earn first-team All-America status for her third-place finish on the beam and fourth-place showing in the all-around at the NCAA Championships. Esposito s sophomore campaign was just as impressive as she earned NCAA runner-up honors on the beam. She has won a total of five all-around titles and eight individual event crowns during her career. TIGERS TABBED WITH MOST DIFFICULT SCHEDULE IN THE NATION LSU has been tabbed with the toughest schedule in the nation among the top-10 teams in the Preseason Coaches Poll, according to the annual Strength of Schedule Analysis released in early December. Teams are ranked according to their schedule difficulty index (SDI) which is calculated by awarding 10 points for scheduling the No. 1 team in the preseason coaches poll, nine points for the No. 2 team, down to one point for the 10th-ranked team. LSU is listed at No. 1 with a SDI of 70. Georgia follows with a SDI of 57, while Florida (53), Alabama (47) and UCLA (35) round out the top five. LSU s schedule includes five of the nation s preseason top-10 teams, in No. 1 Georgia, No. 3 Florida, No. 4 Alabama, No. 7 Nebraska and No. 8 Stanford.
