ultneyville Yacht Club Signals from the Commodore Summertime... and the boating is easy. Very entertaining street scene at ultneyville Homecoming over the July 16/17 weekend. Hope that you had a chance to be part of the crowd and to visit our YC booth. am and Derrick Bray, our Marketing Committee, created a fine display including Membership materials, photos and perpetual Cups. How about watching the Explorer Scouts Lotus enter the harbor and maneuver to the guest dock? The excitement and enthusiasm and the competence of the young crew were pretty inspiring. Imagine what Homecoming must have been like when, according to at least one well-placed and trusted 'old- timer, the celebration would go on for an entire week. Was that the Bob Roberts Society Band playing.. in the tent? This may be part of what the Tacky Light Night experience is all about. The Hamiltons and the Saporitos, especially, and all who decorated and participated in the amble to judging, seemed to be as much celebrating something eternal in the rising, orange full moon. Did you catch any of the visiting boats/crews to hear how much they enjoyed the harbor and being part of the swirl of activity? The place almost sells itself. I trust that all of you have marked your calendars for the General Membership meeting on Saturday September 10 at 2:00.M. In addition to regular business of Officer reports and updates we expect to elect new Vice and Rear Commodores and a Treasurer. Still time, also, if you would like to throw your hat in the ring it has been done before by talking with our Nominating Committee. Larry Notes from the Vice Commodore I am having a hard time knowing that August is here. It just seems like we were launching the boats and getting ready for our season to begin. July was an enjoyable month. We had a very successful Homecoming weekend of events. Thanks to am and Derek Bray and Commodore Larry Rice for running our YC table. It was a beautiful representation our club and had successful outcomes. Open Boats was fun, would love to see more boats get involved in this event. It is neat to see how different everyone s boat is Aug 2011 Activities This Month Aug-06 11:00 AM Ladies Skipper Race Aug-06 5:00 M Club Roast Aug-15 11:59 M Haul Signup Deadline Aug-20 Hospice Race (Rochester) Aug-27 1:00 M Commodore s Challenge* (MI Host) www.ultneyvilleyachtclub.org

Thanks to everyone that participated a fun time was had.ictures are sure to follow. August 6th @5pm is the ig Roast hosted again this year by Don Byrnes, Ron Hilgert and cook Tom Jayne. Your favorite dish to share is welcome also. For September we have our first cradle day on September 10 th followed by the General meeting @2pm and the Oktoberfest hosted this year by Don and Diane Boesel and me. lease mark your calendars. Our Fall Banquet site has been reserved. This year the banquet hosted by Steve and at Sangster and Joe and Diane Davis is at Jack s lace Durand Eastman Golf Course 1200 Kings Highway N Rochester NY 14617. It is a beautiful place with plenty of room for everyone to attend so make sure you save the date. I would like to thank Ron Hilgert and anyone that has come out this season to work with him on all those projects. The club looks great. Awesome Job. MAy we have plenty of sun, rum and wind for the rest of the season. Enjoy. See you at the club. Notes from the Sail Bag Not a lot to report this month, most projects are complete and things are running smoothly. And the best news is that we continue to have good water levels in the harbor and the channel. I will soon be putting together a small crew to work on the electrical service on the south side of the peninsula, and possibly other repairs as needed. If you are interested in a challenge let me know! I just renewed our contract with Clark Rigging and we are set for hauling on Saturday September, 17, and Saturday October, 15. For the past 3 years, YC has NOT increased our H/S/ L rates while tightly managing the H/S/L expenses, and having the excellent cooperation of our members working for efficient haul and launch. For the 2011-2012 season, our vendors have increased their rates again over prior years to recover the overall increase in their expenses and fuel costs. Your board has discussed the increase and has decided we will NOT pass this on to you. Hence our 2011-2012 H/S/L rates will remain the same as they have for the past three years. We hope you find this good news and continue to haul& launch with YC. In the future, we will continue to assess our costs and adjust as needed and closely monitor the ratio of boats that haul early, as a light early haul followed by a large late haul would increase our costs significantly. The cost table and request form for this year s H/S/L are included in this month's issue. lease remember that all forms and payments must be received by August 15 th to avoid a 10% late fee. Also be reminded that any requests received after August 22 nd may not be accepted do to scheduling constraints. I am also asking everyone to very carefully evaluate your selection between early and late haul. Water levels are expected to again be lower for the October haul, and even with the dredging we completed last year the deeper draft boats could be difficult to haul. It is almost a certainty that we will need to move boats later in the season to accommodate the anticipated water levels and EVERY boat must be able to be moved to the crane work area if needed during haul. So lease consider hauling early if your draft is over 4 feet! If you select the late haul and you can t or do not want to move to the work area you will NOT be hauled this year to avoid unnecessary and expensive crane moves Since we have again added members this year I also expect that we will be hauling more boats, so the storage areas are going to be very full. If you store your mast on your boat and it extends over either end we may not have room to place your boat so the end closest to the water does not project over the water so keep this in mind also. Ron Hilgert A Day At The Races Well, as is usually the case, Summer Series brings with it quite a few surprises I wasn t here July 4th week, and think I m happy I wasn t! Hopefully we all got that out of our systems for the rest of the season! July 14th saw a few new boats enter the mix, and a couple of perennials have conflicts that kept them away. This opens up the field for some interesting situations...i m pretty sure that Glad Tidings is supposed to be one of those slow boats with the zip code-like HRF handicaps, but Doug and crew have that boat right up in the front of the pack. I Got Mine is a Sabre 28 that has moved right up into the thick of things despite very little time on the boat, and then there s always Summer Snow...The Foley s are back on track and have the boat moving well. Rather than bore everyone with a written description of the racing,i ll add a few photos from Ken Werner s Icassa album. You can find lots more on the website at picasaweb.google.com/ 114167111339170298972/28JulyYCRace Wouldn t these look better if you were in them? Come on our and join us! Lake Soundings Jul 2011
