COMPETITION RULES 1. This competition is registered with the South Queensland Regional Committee of Highland Dancing (Reg. No. SQ 19/03) and will be conducted under the rules and conditions as set by the SOBHD and adopted by the ABHDI. Any rules pertaining to competition released by SOBHD or ABHDI from the time of printing this schedule to the date of the competition will be adhered to. 2. Dancers MUST hold current 2019 registration and MUST present registration card on the day. 3. Age to be taken as at date of the competition 7 th April 2019 4. Dancers are to compete in their own age group and in one classification only. 5. Dancers compete entirely at their own risk. 6. Any complaint made by an individual against the organisation or adjudication of an event, must be made in writing giving the complainants full name and address, and shall be lodged with the organiser (if possible on the day of the event) but no later than 48 hours after the event. The complaint must be accompanied by a fee of $5.00 which is refundable if the protest is upheld. 7. Subject to the official protest ruling, the Adjudicator s decision is final 8. Committee reserves the right to refuse entries, appoint substitute adjudicators or to amend the program at any time. 9. Dancers are requested to dress appropriately and modestly at all times. 10. Competitors must use music and swords provided by the organiser. 11. Competitors arriving late for a section will not be allowed to compete if the section has finished and competitors may not predance prior to commencement of section. 12. For presentation of prizes on stage dancers must be in Highland or National costume and number must be worn. 13. Dancers must fill in if requested by the organiser. If a competitor fails to fill in unless for a medical reason the organiser has the right to enforce Rule 1g), Page 44 D-Judges, SOBHD Rules and Regulations, which reads: during the course of a competition the comportment of the competitors may come under the jurisdiction of the judges, not only whilst dancing, but also when entering or leaving the platform and whilst waiting for the dance to start. Any unseemly behaviour on the part of the competitor or any misdemeanour likely to upset the decorum of the proceedings may be penalised by the judges and could lead to disqualification, but a full report of any such misconduct on the part of a competitor must be submitted by the judges to the organiser. 14. PHOTOGRAGHY No flash photography will be allowed whilst the dancers are competing. Following the awards parents may photograph their own child or others with parental permission but be highly aware that there must not be other children in shot whose privacy must be protected. As organisers of this event, we plan to photograph winning competitors for the purpose of posting on our Website or Facebook page. Please indicate if you wish to opt out of this process. 15. VIDEO TAPING Is permitted provided it does not in any way hinder the dancers, judges or officials, and it will not be accepted as evidence when protesting adjudication. 16. NO SMOKING In the competition venue or on the grounds 17. TITLES If dancers choose not to compete in all dances of a title, they will still be eligible for an overall title prize however, FULL fee applies. Individual prizes in each dance will be awarded. 18. PRE-PREMIER Eligibility for these sections applies as at day of competition in accordance with the rules of SOBHD registration scheme. Dancers who change classification, after submitting an entry for this competition must notify the organiser as soon as possible prior to this competition. 19. PREMIER (WITH RESTRICTION) Entry is restricted to Premier dancers who have not placed 1 st, 2 nd or 3 rd in a registered Championship since 7 th April 2014 20. Choreography Rules: 1. There is (1) category Groups, consisting of a minimum of 3 dancers and a maximum of 6. 2. The group choreography competition is open to registered dancers. The age group is, ALL AGES. 3. Content should consist primarily of movements from Highland, National, Hornpipe and Jig books. 4. A maximum of five minutes time limit should be set to include entrance and exit of competitors and setting up and removal of props. 5. Teams may use props during their performance, either static or non-static, but live animals are not permitted. 6. Music may be live or pre-recorded and may include vocal or percussion selections, but in all cases, must be predominantly Scottish or Celtic in style. If pre-recorded, the music must be supplied, on the day, to the organiser, on CD or USB. 7. Costumes must follow the theme and content. 8. Judges must be from the current SOBHD, ABHDI or OBHD(SA) Judges Panel. The number of Judges must be one or three to comply with the current scrutineering system. A total mark should be awarded. No separate prizes for costumes etc. 9. Teams should consist of: a) one school only b) more than one school, in which case, the teacher/choreographer must abide by the three month teaching/judging rule. 6
