We are also legally obligated to submit limited personal data to the Central Equine Database. Owners names (but no other personal information), are published on the Society s website and in other Society publications. When you sign your application form, you are asked to agree to this. Data regarding horse registrations, including owners names and the county where they live, may potentially be shared with Horse Sport Ireland for inclusion on their database. This is for technical reasons only. Horse Sport Ireland have not to date requested Sport Horse data. Owners personal data is not shared outside the European Union, although horse data (which is not personal data) is shared with registration administrators in Australia, the USA and Canada. Please see our Privacy Policy and Privacy Statement on our web site at www.idhsgb.com General information from the Horse Passport Regulations 2009, applicable to all registrations and transfers: All equines must have a passport, which is to be with the animal at all times. This requires registration with a recognised Passport Issuing Organisation (PIO). Equines to be registered must be identified and microchipped by a veterinary surgeon. DNA must be taken by the vet at the same time and submitted with the application. DNA kits are available from the office. All equines must be in possession of a passport before they are six months old, or by 31 December in the year they are born, whichever is later. We are now obliged to report late registrations to Trading Standards. Late registrations have to be signed out of the food chain. You must be the owner of a horse to register it. It is the owner s responsibility to ensure that a passport is obtained within the timescale prescribed by the legislation. If you need a replacement passport for an equine that is already registered, please see the separate guidance and forms. If you buy or have bred an unregistered equine that is over the age or date deadline, you must register the animal immediately. Owners of unregistered equines run the risk of prosecution.
It is an offence to sell an equine without a passport. Transfers of ownership must be notified within 28 days. The passport, which remains the property of the Society at all times, must be returned to the Society for amendment on request, and when the horse dies. In the latter case, it may be returned to the owner on request. General rules for all sections of the Irish Draught Sport Horse Register The register as a whole provides a place for the registration of all partbred stock with documented Irish Draught ancestry, combined with any other breed or breeds. It is divided into three categories. Owners must read the Notes for Guidance and apply on the Sport Horse Register application form, both available on our website at www.idhsgb.com A covering certificate from an official Passport Issuing Organisation is essential. DNA parentage testing is not normally required for animals entering this register, unless the owner wishes to demonstrate pedigree that cannot be proven any other way. The exception to this is Traditional Irish Draught Sport Horse (TSR) fillies that are eligible for Supplementary GradeUp inspection. These should be DNAtested on registration. The owner is responsible for resolving any pedigree queries and producing evidence of appropriate pedigree. Fillies out of AID mares by a RID, Class/Grade 1, Class/Grade 2, Class/Grade 3 or Uninspected/Class 4 stallion will be registered in the Main Studbook (Breed Register) and not on the Sport Horse Register. Irish Sport Horses and SID mares and geldings are shown partbred breeding (inhand) classes and ridden classes. The terms Grade 1, Grade 2 and Grade 3 for stallions, mares and geldings will be discontinued for animals born from 1 January 2015. Animals born after 1 January 2015 will be classified according to pedigree only. Animals from other Passport Issuing Organisation registers can be over stamped on to the Irish Draught Sport Horse Register, provided that the owner submits an overstamping application and fee, and the horse meets the 25% minimum documented ID breeding requirement. Exceptional stallions that meet Irish Draught Sport Horse pedigree requirements and which have proven performance or progeny performance, may, at the Council s discretion, be accepted for overstamping and inclusion in our stallion lists. Traditional Irish Draught Sport Horse Register (TSR) For male and female horses with at least two generations of documented, or otherwise proven breeding (e.g. through DNA), of which a minimum of 25% must be Irish Draught (RID, or Class 1 or 2). The remainder must be documented Thoroughbred, Connemara or Traditional Irish Sport Horse. The definition of a Traditional Irish Sport Horse is an animal with Irish Draught, Thoroughbred or Connemara blood only, in any proportions. Animals eligible for this register will have Traditional Irish Draught Sport Horse recorded on their passports. Supplementary GradeUp Within the TSR, there will be some female animals that are eligible for inspection for the Supplementary GradeUp Register. In addition to the above pedigree requirements in one parent, these fillies and mares must have three Class 1 or RID grandparents, and one Class 1 or RID parent. These fillies and mares retain their sport horse number and status throughout life, but after inspection, if accepted into 2
the SGUR, they will also be deemed to be part of the Main Studbook (Breed Register).This is the only point of crossover between the Main Studbook and Irish Draught Sport Horse Registers. Irish Draught Sport Horse (SPR). For horses with a minimum of two generations of documented or otherwise proven breeding (e.g. through DNA), of which a minimum of 25% must be Irish Draught (RID/ Class 1/Class 2). The nonirish Draught portion of the pedigree may be any other breed. Animals eligible for this register will have Irish Draught Sport Horse recorded on their passports. Irish Draught PartBred (PBR) For horses with less than two documented or otherwise proven (e.g. through DNA) generations of Irish Draught breeding. The nonirish Draught portion of the pedigree may be any other breed. This register includes the progeny of SHR and TSR animals, by or out of other breeds that have less than 25% ID blood. Animals eligible for this register will have Irish Draught PartBred recorded on their passports. AID (Appendix Irish Draught) For existing AID mares and geldings. Existing AID mares inspected up to and including 2011 are accepted by Horse Sport Ireland as being equivalent to Supplementary Grade Up mares, although they retain their AID grade. Most of these animals are three quarters Irish Draught. Mares will no longer be inspected for this grade. The progeny of AID mares by a RID, Class 1, Class 2 or Grade 2 (GB) stallions are eligible for Class 1 on inspection. Those mares which met the pedigree requirements for RID but which were placed in AID because they did not meet the necessary inspection requirements will be transferred to Class 2 in the Main Studbook. AID mares will continue to be shown in classes alongside Main Studbook mares and continue to be eligible for Hornby Premiums. AID mares and geldings are shown in purebred classes, because most are at least 75% Irish Draught. AID mares can be linear profiled if their owners so wish. This takes place at an inspection venue and the cost is less than that of a full inspection, because there is no need for these mares to be vetted again. Linear profiling may assist owners in making breeding decisions. SID (Supplementary Irish Draught) For existing SID mares born before 2000, when the register closed. These mares typically have one RID parent. Mares will no longer be inspected for this grade. The few SID mares that were eligible for RID on inspection, but which failed to meet the inspection requirements, can be transferred to Class 2 of the Main Studbook. SID mares will continue to be shown in partbred classes at affiliated shows and they continue to be eligible for Hornby Premiums. Membership 3
You do not need to be a member to register a sport horse or have an existing passport overstamped. If you wish to become a member, please contact Carol Malin, our Administrator for information (contact details on the header, above). Covering certificates All applications for registration in the Sport Horse Register must include a valid covering certificate. If you do not have a covering certificate, you must obtain one from the stallion owner. If you do not have a covering certificate because you, as the breeder of the foal, are in dispute with the stallion owner, this must be resolved between parties prior to registration. The Society will not get involved in any personal or business disputes. We cannot register your foal with a pedigreebased passport unless you have a covering certificate. If there are unusual circumstances, e.g. the stallion owner is deceased, please contact the Society for advice, as we may have a copy of the certificate. Central Prefix Register Breeders can apply to register a prefix. This is managed by an external body, the Central Prefix Register. Application forms for registering/extending a Prefix are available to download from the website at www.idhsgb.com Breeders and owners may not: Register any horse using a prefix registered to another breeder; Register or name a horse bred by someone else, using their own prefix or any variation of it (this includes horses purchased in Ireland that have been named there); Register a horse with this Society, using their own prefix that is registered with another PIO but not with this Society. If in doubt, please contact the Central Prefix Register for advice.
