PITTSBURGH PIRATES (12-14) vs. CINCINNATI REDS (12-14) MAY 3, 2017 at Great American Ball Park, Cincinnati, OH --- GAME #27/ROAD #15 RHP JAMESON TAILLON (2-0, 2.08 ERA) vs. RHP ROOKIE DAVIS (0-1, 11.17 ERA) THE PIRATES...snapped their two game losing streak Tuesday night after scoring a season-high tying 12 runs for the second time on their current road trip (also Friday night at Miami)...Have won a season-high three consecutive games on three occasions (4/26-29, 4/14-16 and 4/7-9)...Had a 15-11 record after 26 games last season (15-12 after 27). FROM THE BUREAU: Last night Pittsburgh s Tyler Glasnow recorded the first win of his big league career while also going 1-for-2 with three RBI and a pair of walks at the plate...according to the Elias Sports Bureau, the last pitcher to have three RBI and two walks as a batter in one game was Philadelphia s Randy Lerch against the Cubs in 1978...The only other Pirates pitcher to do that since RBI became an official statistic in 1920 was Al McBean against the Braves on September 6, 1967. A SUPER MONTH FOR NOVA: Major League Baseball today will announce the award winners for the month of April... Pittsburgh s Ivan Nova ended the first month of the season ranked first in the National League in complete games (two) and shutouts (one) and second in ERA (1.50) and innings pitched (36.0)...Since being acquired by Pittsburgh last year on August 1, Nova has recorded more complete games (five) than walks (four) in 100.2 innings of work over 16 starts...the last Pirate to take home National League Pitcher-of-the-Month honors was Gerrit Cole in April of 2015. WINNING STARTS HERE: Pittsburgh s starting pitching staff enters today with a 3.64 ERA, which ranks seventh in all of Major League Baseball and third among National League teams...the only NL teams with a better ERA from their starting pitching staffs are the Cardinals (3.27) and Diamondbacks (3.41). GETTING ON AT GREAT AMERICAN: Andrew McCutchen has reached base safely in 32 consecutive games at Great American Ball Park dating back to September 27, 2013...During this 32-game stretch, McCutchen is hitting.292 with eight doubles, a triple, nine home runs and 23 RBI along with a.412 on-base percentage,.600 slugging percentage and 1.012 OPS. DIALING LONG DISTANCE: The Pirates have gone deep in a season-high six straight games...during this six game stretch, the Buccos have hit a total of nine home runs...the nine home runs have been hit by five different players (Josh Harrison, Andrew McCutchen, Josh Bell, John Jaso and Jordy Mercer). LEGGING IT OUT: Last night Alen Hanson recorded Pittsburgh s Major League-leading 10th triple of the season and his second in four games...friday night at Miami, Pittsburgh had its first game with three triples since August 20, 2013. ON THE BUMP: RHP Jameson Taillon is making his sixth start of the season tonight...he has been charged with a total of seven earned runs in his first five starts this season (30.1)...Jameson has pitched at least 6.0 innings in 15 of his 23 career starts with the Pirates and has recorded a 1.84 ERA (98.0ip/20er) in those games. ROLLIN ON THE ROAD: Jameson Taillon will make his fourth road start of the season tonight...in his first three starting assignments this year away from PNC Park, he has allowed one earned run in 19.0 innings of work...entering today s action, Taillon s 0.47 road ERA is the lowest among all National League pitchers. THIS AND THAT: The Pirates are averaging 5.1 runs per game (56 runs total) in their last 11 contests since scoring a total of three runs during their three game series at St. Louis from April 17-19...The Pirates have struck out a total of 180 times season; the second-fewest in Major League Baseball behind the Red Sox (163)...Pittsburgh has posted a Major League-leading 3.00 ERA on the road this season; the White Sox are second with a 3.35 ERA on the road. ROOKIE BALL: José Osuna is 9-for-22 (.409) with three doubles, a triple and three RBI over his last seven games since April 24...Osuna s.409 average in that time is the highest by a Major League rookie along with Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees (also.409). HOMETOWN HELLO: Cincinnati native Josh Harrison has gone deep in three consecutive games at Great American Ball Park, including a three-run blast during Tuesday s six-run fourth inning...the only other Pirates to homer in three consecutive games in the history of Great American Ball Park are Neil Walker, Garrett Jones and Sean Rodriguez. CUTCH VS. THE REDS: Andrew McCutchen has hit 17 of his 27 career home runs against the Reds here at Great American Ball Park...McCutchen s 17 home runs as a visiting player here at Great American ranks fifth all-time behind Lance Berkman (23), Ryan Braun (22), Albert Pujols (20) and Aramis Ramirez (18). GETTING ON BASE: Andrew McCutchen has reached base safely in each of his last 2s, which is the second-longest active streak in the Majors...The only player in MLB with a longer active on-base streak is Seattle s Mitch Haniger (25 games). LEADING THE WAY: Josh Harrison has gone 13-for-37 (.351) in nine games from the leadoff spot this season...the only two players in the National League with a higher batting average from the leadoff spot of the batting order are Los Angeles Logan Forsythe (.385) and New York s Michael Conforto (.364). OUR GIFT TO YOU: Gift Ngoepe (n-go-pay) became the first player from the continent of Africa to appear in a Major League game when he made his debut and singled off Jon Lester in his first at bat on April 26...Tuesday night he recorded his first career multi-rbi game with a two-run single in the seventh inning at Cincinnati. ON THIS DATE IN PIRATES HISTORY May 3, 1999: Jason Kendall went 5-for-5 and Brian Giles hit two home runs but Brant Brown proved to be the hero after his single with two outs in the ninth inning capped a four-run comeback over San Francisco closer Robb Nen for a 9-8 Pirates win at Three Rivers Stadium.
