What's been happening? Winter League 2016/17 The final of the winter league knock-out was played on Sunday, Mark and Aiden Abbott were up against rising stars Josh Mead and Will Glenister. I'm told it was a game of high drama, the Abbotts seemingly in control thanks to great play by both Aiden and Mark taking them into the back 9 three up. Josh and Will then pulled some top class shots out of the bag taking the game down the final hole! A half on the 18th green was good enough to secure the title for the Abbotts 1 up. A fitting end to a great tournament. Thank you to all competitors for your support of winter league 2016/17... March Saturday Stableford 18th March The first competition weekend of the new season played from normal tees! An addition of 400 yards to the course didn't seem to affect the scoring adversely! A competition scratch score of 74 also meant some healthy handicap reductions! Spring Foursomes 2017 The first Major of the year...add 800 yards to the course and throw foursomes into the mix! Nice!!!! Excellent course conditions and fair weather for April didn't seem to help everyone, but rising above the rest were: Winners R.IMPEY A.AVERN-LOVE 37cb 2nd D.MCKEARS J.HOWLETT 37 3rd M.FREED B.HENNINGER 35cb Well played Andy and Rob. Remember, all major winners receive a sizeable pro-shop voucher and a ticket to the end of summer ball where your trophy will be presented. Course: Duncan and his team, Chris, John and Rob M have been hard at work again this week... - Trees have been trimmed on the 8th hole, which will allow a greater area of the 8th tee to be utilised. - Some trees have been removed on the 15th hole to expose the giant redwoods, these impressive trees need greater exposure to sunlight, air and water to flourish. They were crowded by less significant trees, hence the removal. - Spring maintenance work is in progress. Hollow tinning and scarifying has already taken place and subject to weather top dressing will be carried out today / tomorrow. - The 1st tee and new putting green continue to flourish and receive weekly maintenance, the 1st tee having been trimmed for the first time looks amazing! - New bushes have been planted near the new white / blue 1st tee. - The putting/chipping green is starting to mature, it requires some top dressing and further growth before we allow chipping. Please continue to use as a putting green until further notice. - Weekly cutting duties are starting to increase. All areas of the course are now growing. Great news for us golfers but hard work for the lads who continue to go over and above to produce a very playable golf course 52 weeks of the year. Well done guys and thank you.
