Page 1 2017 Gardena Optimist Golf Tournament Rules Short Version of the Rules (see long version for more details): 1. 4 Person Scramble 2. From selected shots players play from 1 clublength not nearer to hole. Ball cannot be moved from rough or hazards. 3. Men play from White (Middle) tees, women on Forward (Silver) tees. 4. The team must use at least one, but not more than 6 drives from each team member. 5. Mark the selected ball on the putting green. Each player is to attempt the putt from the same spot. The first ball to go in is counted for the team score. If no player makes the putt, mark the best remaining putt and all team members are to putt from there. 6. Double bogey is the maximum score on each hole. 7. Any number of mulligans can be purchased, and can be used by any team member. Mulligans can be used anywhere, but cannot be used on Tee shots on par 3 holes. 8. Scoring shall be per The Modified Scheid Scramble Handicap System. 9. Decisions of the Golf Committee are final. 10. CP (Closest to the Pin) Contest: Only entered players paying the $10 fee are eligible. 11. If a team has 3 players, members take turns, in the order listed on scorecard, taking extra shots for the missing player on each hole. Only the 1 st shot on par 3s qualify for CPs. If a team has 5 players, members take turns, in the order listed on scorecard, sitting out on each hole, but may hit non-qualifying shots while doing so. All members qualify for CPs. 12. The official team scorecard shall be marked for each hole as (-) for par +1 for bogey, -1 for birdie, etc. +2 is the maximum score. 13. On holes 7, 9 and 17 (men s par 4, women s par 5), if a woman s tee shot is used her stroke is not counted. Subsequent strokes are counted as usual. If not marked as a woman s drive, team plays it as usual as a par 4 with all strokes counted. 14. Play Ready Golf and keep up with the group in front of you. We all want to finish the round in a timely fashion. (Before dark). Long Version of the Rules: 1. Format is a modified four-person scramble. All four team members tee off on each hole and then decide which tee shot they like best and mark the spot. All four players can then play from the spot of the selected shot and into the hole. 2. From selected shots, each player can place the ball within one club length, no closer to the hole. If the selected ball is in the rough or hazard, each player must play from the rough or that hazard.
Page 2 3. Men are to tee off from the White (Middle) tees, women are to tee off from the Forward (Silver) tees. 6. If the ball that the team selects is in a hazard (bunker or water), or in the rough, or out of bounds, you cannot drop the ball outside the hazard or rough, even if relief is within one club length away. If the ball selected is in a sand bunker, everyone must hit from the sand bunker within one club length. You can rake the bunker after each shot. If the ball selected was in the water, drop out under USGA Rules procedures and add a penalty stroke for each player hitting from the drop. A ball hit out of bounds is usually not selected, but if it is, the players all must re-hit from where the ball was hit before it went out of bounds, and each player must add a stroke and distance penalty (2 strokes). 7. Double bogey is the maximum team score on any hole. Teams that reach a score of double bogey on a hole are to pick-up and move on to the next tee. 8. Mulligans: a. Each player can purchase any number of Mulligans. b. Mulligans can be used anywhere except (c.), below. c. Mulligans cannot be used on Tee shots of par 3s. 9. Have a good time! 10. Scoring shall be per The Modified Scheid Scramble Handicap System. 11. Decisions of the Golf Committee are final. 12. CP (Closest to the Pin) Contest: Only entered players paying the $10 fee are eligible. 13. If a team has only three players, one player will play two shots, to take the place of the missing player. The three players must take turns, in the order listed on scorecard, hitting for the missing player for each hole, so over 18 holes, each of the three players must play for two players on a total of six holes. On par 3 holes, the player playing 2 shots can use either shot for the team score, but only the 1 st is eligible for the CP Prize. If a team has 5 players, one player cannot participate on any shot, except for practice shots, for any given hole. Players are assigned letters A, B, C, D, and E. Player A is excluded from participating on the 1 st hole, B is excluded on the 2 nd hole, etc. This order is kept throughout the tournament. On par 3 holes, all members are eligible for the CP Prize. 14. The official team scorecard shall be marked for each hole as (-) for par +1 for bogey, -1 for birdie, etc. +2 is the maximum score recordable. 15. On holes 7, 9 and 17 (men s par 4, women s par 5), if a woman s tee shot is used her stroke is not counted. Subsequent strokes are counted as usual. If not marked as a woman s drive, team plays it as usual as a par 4 with all strokes counted. 16. Play Ready Golf and keep up with the group in front of you. We all want to finish the round in a timely fashion. (Before dark).
