SoCon team notes Appalachian State Appalachian State has recorded double-digit hits in eight of its last 10 games. Appalachian State s five-run first inning in its 10-6 win over The Citadel on April 13 marked the most runs it has scored in an opening frame and only the eighth time that it has scored five runs in any stanza this season. Appalachian State is 8-3 this season and 45-15 since the beginning of 2012 at Smith Stadium. The Citadel Logan Cribb tossed the first complete game of the season for The Citadel in an 8-2 win over Appalachian State on April 11. He threw a careerhigh 126 pitches in winning for the first time since defeating Nebraska on Feb. 28 Bo Thompson homered in the series opening victory, giving him 24 in his career and moving him into a tie for 10th in school history with Josh Stackley. Zach Sherrill became the fifth pitcher in Citadel history to appear in 100 games when he worked in a loss to the Mountaineers on April 12. Davidson Dating back to last season, Davidson is enjoying its most successful stretch of Southern Conference play ever, as the Wildcats have claimed a program-record seven consecutive SoCon series, going 16-5 in those 21 SoCon games. Davidson s 12 SoCon wins this season match its total from last year. The program record is 14 (2000). DH/RHP Ryan Lowe is on a 35-game reached-base streak, dating back to last season. He leads the team batting.361 overall and.407 in Southern Conference games. Elon Junior Casey Jones continued his hot streak and has now hit safely in 23 consecutive games. With Elon s 12-2 win at Wofford on April 12, head coach Mike Kennedy claimed career win No. 600. In his 18th season at his alma mater, Kennedy boasts a career record of 600-422-3. The Phoenix took a 4-2 lead into the ninth against North Carolina on Wednesday but saw the Tar Heels rally for the 5-4 win. Prior to the loss, Elon had been 23-0 when leading after eight innings this season. Furman Making his first career start at third base, freshman Carter Grote went 4-for-5 and drove in three runs in a 9-6 win at Western Carolina on April 12. The win snapped Furman s sevengame losing streak and also halted Western Carolina s 12-game winning streak. Furman s series win at Western Carolina was its first of 2014 and the Catamounts first home league series loss since 2012. Georgia Southern GSU holds an impressive 18-6 record at home in J.I. Clements Stadium this year and is two wins better than a year ago when it went 16-14. The Eagles bested former SoCon member College of Charleston on Wednesday, 7-3. UNCG By taking two of three from Georgia Southern last weekend, UNCG won a series in Statesboro, Ga., for the first time since 1998. Sophomore catcher Jake Hall hit his first two collegiate home runs in backto-back at-bats in the Spartans 6-2 victory at Georgia Southern on April 11 UNCG collected three road wins against top 100-RPI opponents last week (Wake Forest 45th / Georgia Southern 82nd). SAMFORD Entering this weekend, Samford junior shortstop Tyler Filliben has reached base in 21 straight games. The streak is the longest for any Samford player this season. The Bulldogs swept the season series from Auburn, taking the 7-6 win Tuesday to complement an 8-1 win on April 1. Western Carolina With his start on April 13, WCU senior Jordan Smith matched former Catamount hurler Jack Kimel (1989-92) for the most games started on the mound in program history at 53. Scoring his ninth career save on April 11, junior Tyler Powell moved into a tie for ninth place on the school s career saves ledger, matching David Pember (1997-99) and Dan Kyslinger (1992). Wofford Alec Paradowski reached base safely in 27 straight games before failing to reach on April 12 against Elon. Wofford was 7-0 in one run games before falling 10-9 on April 11 against Elon. Wofford has reached the 20-win mark for the fourth straight season.
