THE EVENT: The Prince George Cougars, along with Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation, would like to invite you to the on August 15th - 16th, 2013 at the Prince George Golf and Curling Club. The have partnered with the Spirit of the North to help raise funds for the Healthcare Foundation. Over the years the Cougars have volunteered many hours to the community of Prince George. This golf tournament has the potential to be a great event for the community as we look to raise funds for the Spirit of the North and give the alumni a chance to get together and reminisce about the past. THE CHARITY: The Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation The Foundation was created to provide people with meaningful opportunities to contribute to the enhancement of healthcare throughout Northern BC. The communities in the north have responded in a very generous way. Having just celebrated our 20th anniversary, more than $27 million has been raised with funding going towards the purchase of capital equipment and improvements, and the training and education of healthcare workers and medical staff. In the North, for the North The people of northern B.C. have come to realize that gifts to the Foundation are making a significant difference in their quality of life. Over the years, the Foundation has provided funds, in whole or in part, for such major pieces of equipment as a Cardiovascular Ultrasound, MRI, Cat Scan, ophthalmology lasers, digital radiographic suites, a burn tank, a gamma camera and crash carts just to name a few items. It has also funded major renovations to Jubilee Lodge and the Maternal Child Centre of Excellence at UHNBC. Proceeds from the Cougar Alumni Hospital Pro-Am All proceeds from this golf tournament will be used to help continue our efforts to enhance healthcare and wellness in the north. Our volunteer Board of Directors will ensure that the funds will be used to purchase much needed equipment and fund training at UHNBC. We make sure that your contributions are not used for basic items that your tax dollars should be funding but rather we help purchase those extras that make a huge difference in the care of our families and friends when they need it. This partnership has helped to purchase equipment to provide the best of care close to home in the North. Last year s tournament proceeds purchased a Rapid Transfuser for ER to assist patients with a major trauma or burn. This specialized equipment provides a rapid transfusion of blood and IV fluids while warming the fluids to protect against infection and help with recovery. The golf course: Located in a park-like setting the Prince George Golf and Curling Club offers an enjoyable test of golf for the low handicapper as well as the weekend golfer. In addition to a championship golf course the club also has 8 sheets of curling ice, 5 racquet courts, a driving range and complete dining/lounge facilities. The golf course was established in 1946 and amalgamated with the curling club in 1973 to form the present Prince George Golf and Curling Club. The Club has numerous facilities that help to make it one of the most respected and diversified clubs in northern British Columbia. On the golf side, fairways are generous off the tee box, but precision shot making is required into the greens. It s easy to walk the level to rolling fairways. An exciting variety of Par 3 s, Par 4 s and Par 5 s require you to play every club in your bag. Sand bunkers, water hazards and challenging greens make this Par 71 course one of north central BC s favorites. For more info:
