Greater Manchester School Games

2016 Greater Manchester School Games The Greater Manchester School Games is one of the largest events of its kind in the Country, in 2014/2015 it captured the imagination of over 5800 athletes, 460 school teams and over 400 young volunteers at the Level 3 events, with a further 80,000+ at Level 2 events. Split across two multi-sport events; the Winter and Summer Games; as well as a further 45 Stand Alone competitions, this exciting concept aims to further revive the culture of competitive sport in schools and is a key part of the Government s plans for a lasting sporting legacy from hosting the London 2012 Games. The competition runs across three distinct, but integrated levels providing young people with the opportunity to compete in local intra (Level 1) and inter (Level 2) school competition, culminating in County Festival (Level 3) that will showcase the very best of competitive sport in Greater Manchester. Level 3 Greater Manchester School Games (Winter, Summer & Stand Alone Games) Level 2 Inter-school competition Level 1 Intra-school competition In true Olympic and Paralympic style, the events reflect the traditions of the Cultural Olympiad and begin with an Opening Ceremony featuring a wide variety of dance, music and artistic performances. In partnership with Key 103 a dedicated web-radio through which schools, teachers and parents can listen to commentary and reports throughout the day is also created. The events are managed by the Greater Manchester Sports Partnership (on behalf of the Local Organising Committee) and take place in many of Manchester s world class sporting facilities. Partnership Opportunities Greater Manchester School Games - Quotes What a fantastic day! My children and parents went home absolutely buzzing. We may have only got a silver and a bronze but we ALL loved it. Thank you to everyone involved in the games. Hopefully we can have another go in the summer or next year! Chris Horne, Claypool Primary School It s been an absolutely staggeringly impressive event that all the children have thoroughly enjoyed; they ve just got so much out of it. Whether they have won medals or they didn t, they have just really enjoyed themselves and I think that is an absolutely super function for children to come to. All children should have the chance to come to events like this, it s fantastic. Roary Pownall, Head Teacher, Ludworth Primary School I just wanted to drop you, and all of your colleagues, a quick email to thank you very much for the fantastic day yesterday. All my kids thoroughly enjoyed the occasion and were buzzing all day. These days don t just happen I know all too well how much planning, thinking and re-planning goes in to organising a sports event for one school so I can only imagine how much time was spent on yesterday s arrangements. From the Opening Ceremony to the transportation, from the excellent oaths to the competition itself all aspects of the day were first class! Tim Herron, Abraham Guest Academy Just wanted to say a BIG thank you for letting me be a young ambassador yesterday. I had such a great day and seeing all the participants having fun and getting involved watching them laugh and meet other people their age was fab. Sorry sound like a granddad there but I mean it - all hope you had a good day and it wasn't too stressful. I was talking to Julie and sounds like it went to plan she said I would have a great future in event management and that's a road I would like to go down so anything I can do to help you please let me know. Alex Williams, School Games Crew Ambassador The children were in awe, they have never experienced anything as big and exciting whilst doing a school event as huge as this one. They never stopped talking about the day. Moira Devlin, Holy Family Catholic Primary On behalf of all the staff and children at St John's Primary School, I would like to say a big thank you for the amazing day we all had. The event was brilliant and a day the children will never forget. My son was also there from Trafford, so I would like to add that from a "mummy" angle the day was also a huge success. He was overjoyed to be attending the event and it has inspired him to take his sport to a higher level. It stepped up the level of competition and gave him a taste of future possibilities!
