BLUE HOSE VOLLEYBALL The Checklist P The Blue Hose will play their last two matches of the season this week. PC heads to Winthrop Wednesday evening before hitting the road for a game against Charleston Southern Saturday evening. P PC has two matches to finish the 2010 season. All of the matches are in the Big South Conference. The team is close to establishing a few PC Division I school records - and in some cases already has. P Head coach Chris Belshe s 2010 team currently has two student-athletes on the 1,000-kill list in Amanda Kettles and Lisa Shelley and one in the 1,500- dig club with Elizabeth Heineman. Hitting 400 MATCH NOTES The Presbyterian College volleyball team should have two players at 400 at the end of the season. However, they will be for two totally different categories. Senior Amanda Kettles should go out as the Big South Conference individual leader for hitting percentage. Kettles is hitting.376 overall and.414 in league action. Sophomore Presley Mabrey should also be over 400 this year - but for kills. Heading into the two final matches of the season, Mabrey has smashed 398 balls on the year for a 3.64 kills per set average. Time To Leave Their Mark Seven PC student-athletes will be playing in their last career volleyball matches. All have been integral parts of PCVB and bringing an atmosphere together that fans have rallied around, called Smashtown. Should PC win both matches this week, the squad could adjust who Winthrop and Charleston Southern will play in the Big South volleyball tournament. Two wins would also vault them into second place on PC s Division I single-season win total. The seven players have been a part of nearly 60 wins since their arrival. The squad has recorded 1,431 digs for 13.37 digs per set. The team has six players over 100 digs on the season. Two are over two hundred while at least two more should be over 200 by the end of the season while a third has an outside chance. 1

Barman is fifth in league play with a.350 hitting percentage. Barman s blocking ability has also been a force for PC as she leads the team with 81 total blocks. Barman s Big Week Rookie Andrea Barman was tabbed the Big South Freshman of the Week Nov. 1 after helping PC go 2-0 in league play. Barman recorded a.381 attack percentage, notching 10 kills. She also had six blocks for the week. Defensive Leader goes On the Offensive Senior Ashley Dunlap leads PC with 294 digs on the year. As solid as her numbers are on the defensive end, they are just as impressive when she drops back to serve. Dunlap has posted 38 aces this year, which is two off the Big South lead of 40 by two players. Dunlap is averaging 0.36 aces per set, which is tied for third in the league. Liberty s Lillie Happel leads the league with 0.39 aces per set. It s Been A Good Ride As all good things come to an end, it will be tough for PC to say goodbye to the senior class. Lisa Shelley transferred in after her freshman year at South Carolina while Kilee Ruppe transferred from Newberry. Shelley and Ruppe have played the last three and two years, respectively. The other four seniors have been here since the fall of 2007. Ashley Dunlap, Carolyn Fabros, Elizabeth Heineman and Amanda Kettles as well as Shelley and Ruppe have all been integral parts of the program s success since their arrival. The team has defeated each Big South Conference school since arriving and have been vital to the program, helping it make the transition to Division I. Just Two More... PC Leads The League Presbyterian College has just two more matches for the 2010 season. Although it is sad to see seven studentathletes playing in their last collegiate contests, the Blue Hose also have just two more matches to play until freshmen Caroline Cann and Mary Trimpe have to sit out until being ready to go. Both redshirted this season and should make an immediate impact on PCVB beginning with the spring season. When the Big South Conference statistical leaders came out Monday morning, it was noted that PC stood above the rest for fewest digs by opponents. The Blue Hose are allowing just 12.42 digs per set. In conference only play, PC limits the opposition to a Big South low 12.31 digs per set. Kilee s KORNER Redshirt-senior Kilee Ruppe s blog, Kilee s Korner, is a behind the scenes look with a Division I student-athlete. The blog has pictures and is updated weekly. Go to www.gobluehose.com and click on the volleyball page. Once there, look on the left-hand side for the tab. 2

Chris Belshe Head Coach Fifth Season Chris Belshe is in his fifth year as the head coach of the Presbyterian College volleyball program, leading the Blue Hose through the transition to Division I. In his four years with the team, Belshe has compiled a 54-78 mark, including a 45-53 record at the Division I level. In 2009, Belshe guided the team to a 7-9 Big South Conference mark, including sweeps over Radford and Gardner-Webb. He coached two Big South Conference all-freshman team members in Allison Brown and Presley Mabrey while Ashley Dunlap garnered a spot on the all-academic team. PC recorded 13 wins in 2008. However, the most impressive performance of the season was the 3-2 victory over NCAA Tournament participant Liberty on Nov. 8 in Clinton, S.C. Prior to the season, Kelsey McKee was tabbed preseason all-conference. Amanda Kettles garnered second-team all-conference accolades while Rachel Lewis was named to the all-academic team in 2008. In 2007 Belshe led the squad to an impressive overall record of 20-13, and a 6-8 record against Big South opponents. Belshe also guided the team to tournament championships at Jacksonville, Wilmington and Western Carolina. By winning 15 straight matches, the 2007 squad moved into second place in the record books for longest winning streaks. The Blue Hose also went undefeated in the month of September and remained unbeaten in 26 straight sets, setting a new school record. Under his influence, the team went 4-0 in five game matches and was one of four schools in the Big South to have a 20 win season (with Liberty, Winthrop and High Point). Belshe is excited about the support and the direction in which the program is headed. Presbyterian College has created an environment of strong athletics and academics so that our student-athletes can really excel, not only on the court but in the classroom. The discipline, work ethic and passion it takes to be a Division I athlete carries over into all aspects of life, and I truly believe all our athletes will be well-prepared for anything they will face in the future. Belshe s first year at PC was severely affected by injuries, and the 2006 squad still managed nine wins. Freshman Julie Hollrah was named to the South Atlantic Conference s All-Freshman team, and setter Rachel Lewis was selected to the Preseason All-SAC First Team. Belshe came to Presbyterian with a strong background of volleyball coaching experience, having coached at the club, high school and collegiate levels. Prior to joining the Blue Hose, Belshe was the assistant coach for the Spanish River High School boys volleyball team in Boca Raton, Fla. and helped lead the Sharks to a state tournament title. In the fall of 2005, Belshe was a volunteer at Lynn University, training individual student-athletes and organizing practices. Belshe spent almost four years with Illini Elite volleyball club in Bloomington, Ill. and coached at various age levels, ranging from youth to elite high school teams. Three of his teams reached the USAV Junior Olympic Nationals. His 18-and-under squad qualified twice, becoming the first 18-andunder Illini Elite team to qualify for Nationals in 2003-04. All together, Belshe coached the 18-and-under Illini Elite club team from November of 2003 through July of 2005, garnering a slot every year in the list of top-10 regional teams. More impressively, every senior on his 18-and-under team committed to play NCAA Division I volleyball. A native of Wheaton, Ill., Belshe attended Illinois State University and graduated in 2005 with a degree in Finance. He and his wife, Jen, reside in Simpsonville, S.C., with their newborn son, Caelan Luke. 5
