FOSTER WALK-OFF LEADS FSU TO SERIES WIN Junior catcher Jonathan Foster hit a two-run, pinch-hit walk-off home run to beat No. 18 Louisville, 8-7 (3/30). Foster s home run was FSU s first walk-off HR when LOSING a game since Mike McGee s tworun HR gave FSU a 7-6 win over Miami in 2010 (have had five walk-off HR in tie games in that span). Both of Foster s home runs this season have come as a pinch hitter - his first was in his first career AB as a Seminole, a three-run HR against Troy. LUECK LOOKS TO JOIN ELITE COMPANY Junior outfielder Jackson Lueck has led the Seminoles in batting average each of his first two seasons, hitting.379 in 2016 and.318 in 2017. Lueck is attempting to become just the third Seminole to win three-consecutive team batting titles, following Doug Mientkiewicz (1993-95) and DJ Stewart (2013-15). Lueck hit.368 with three home runs and 10 RBI against UCF and North Carolina to earn his first career ACC Player of the Week honor. Lueck hit his team-high ninth home run of the season vs. Stetson (4/18), tying his most in a season (2017). FSU WINS SERIES AT NORTH CAROLINA Florida State allowed a pair of big innings in the opener at North Carolina (3/23), giving up five runs in the first inning and seven in the seventh inning. The Tar Heels combined to score just seven runs in the final two games of the series. FSU beat UNC 6-3 in 10 innings in the second game, the Noles first extra-innings game this year. FSU beat North Carolina 9-4 to win the series (3/25). Cal Raleigh, Nick Derr and Jackson Lueck combined for 8 RBI on three HR, including Derr s grand slam, the first of the year for FSU. Freshman CJ Van Eyk pitched 4.2 innings and allowed just two hits and no runs for his first collegiate win. VAN EYK COMING ON STRONG Freshman pitcher CJ Van Eyk threw a career-high innings in consecutive appearances - 4.1 at North Carolina (3/25) and 6.0 vs. Louisville (3/31). Van Eyk allowed just two hits in each of those games. He was the winning pitcher against UNC, holding the Tar Heels scoreless while striking out 5 in FSU s 9-4 win. He allowed a run against UofL in his first inning but retired 11 straight between the fourth and eighth innings. On the season, Van Eyk has a 3.09 ERA with 24 strikeouts in 23.1 innings. On Wednesday, head coach Mike Martin announced that Van Eyk would start Saturday s game at Boston College in Fenway Park. SALVATORE RISING FAST Shortstop Mike Salvatore hit 7-for-13 in three games at Georgia Tech. He tied a career high with three hits in each of the final two games against the Yellow Jackets. Salvatore was hitting.192 on March 20 after an 0-for-2 game against UCF. Since then, his average has risen to.260 and he has at least one hit in 15 of 17 games in that span. POWER BATS SHOW UP FSU has 43 home runs this season - 7 in the first 16 games and 36 in the next 22 games. FSU tied the school record with seven home runs against Stetson (4/18). The Noles also hit four home runs at Florida (3/13) and have six games with at least three home runs this year. Last season, FSU did not have a four-home run game until the Super Regional final against Sam Houston State. NOLES PUT TOGETHER GOOD AT-BATS As a team, FSU struck out just eight times in the three-game series against Notre Dame, including just once on Friday night. It was the first time since April 1, 2016 that FSU batters recorded just one strikeout against an ACC opponent (Boston College). The eight strikeouts in the series were FSU s fewest since tallying seven strikeouts in three games against Villanova March 1-3, 2013. NOLES HOT START FSU s 14-0 record to start the season was the fourth-best in school history, trailing only opening stretches in 1975, 2007 and 2013. FSU s 14-game winning streak was the longest at any point in the season since the 16-0 start in 2013. Longest Wins Streak to Open Season 23 2007 16 2013 15 1975 14 2018 RALEIGH DURABLE BEHIND THE PLATE Catcher Cal Raleigh has started 162 consecutive games, with 159 of those coming at catcher.
