NORTH ROYALTON RECREATION BOARD MINUTES Tuesday, May 31, 2016 The Recreational Board meeting was held on May 31, 2016. The meeting was called to order at 6:01p.m. by Mr. Wells Present: Committee Members: Chair Russ Wells, Todd Althouse, Tony Santangelo, Paul Marnecheck, Dr. John Kelly, Jason Swim; Recognized Clubs & Organizations: Guy DiSiena (NRSC), Bob Baran (Volleyball); Non-recognized Clubs & Organizations: Kevin Demming (YMCA) APPROVAL OF MINUTES Minutes from April 26 th 2016 meeting: Motion to accept minutes Mr. Santangelo, Mr. Marnecheck, 2 nd - Motion carried REPORTS Recreation Department Jason Swim They are working to dry out Heasley field 2 by adding drain tile, etc. After June 10, they will start work on field 1 and 3. New goals will be also be installed. NRBB said that the St Albert field is not in good shape. Mr. Swim is working on the field at St Albert tomorrow. A piece of rebar that holds the fence down is being removed and then they will repair the fence. Mr. Swim asked if NRSC and NRBB got new batteries and paid for defibrillator devices. The Fire Chief needs to test the devices. The City is working with NRCS and NRBB to permanently repair fences at Memorial field. The fence was temporarily fixed for the rest of season. They are seeking bids for a more extensive repair for next year. School Board Dr. John Kelly See attached notes on NRSD sports - Spring 2016 final results. Council Paul Marnecheck Council is still working on deer regulations. Hydrant flushing will begin soon, starting in Ward 6. They are also putting together the 2016 road repair schedule. Mayor Robert Stefanik No Report NORTH ROYALTON RECOGNIZED CLUBS: Baseball (NRBB): Dr. John Kelly Dr. Kelly suggested that NRBB find volunteers that can help get fields ready in early spring when Rec Dept is shorthanded. There was a lot of discussion about how a volunteer program could work. There are some issues to work out. There was also discussion about the start date of baseball and the end of soccer because some kids participate in both sports. Mr. Wells reminded everyone that Baseball used to start after Memorial Day, so that may be part of the problem. Mr.

Wells also suggested that Rec Board should consider not allowing baseball to start until after Memorial Day. Soccer (NRSC): Guy DiSiena NRSC finished up with Soccer days last weekend. It was a little wet but not too bad. The Kona Ice truck has worked out well for Soccer. The extra revenue is nice. NRSC had to buy new soccer goals because of new regulations. There were fundraising activities at Soccer Days to raise money for the new goals. Travel still has a few games left this year. Tryouts have begun for next year s travel teams. There were 13 teams at the Medina tournament. Medina was very helpful in helping NRSC at the tournament. They won a few of the events. NRSC mentioned they rent out the NR Field House in the early days of spring because of the unpredictable weather. Basketball: Tom Grassi Not Present No Report. Mr. Swim has made several attempts to contact Mr. Grassi about their requirement to attend Recreation Board meetings. Mr. Wells suggested that the city (Mayor) send a letter or call him again. Volleyball: Bob Baran Volleybal finished 4th in their division. Next year they are considering creating 3 teams for girls 4-6 years old. Mr. Baran says there are no other opportunities except the Catholic leagues. Mr. Baran feels that the boys HS league may not have enough interest for a team next year. North Royalton Community Garden: Paul Marnecheck - Everything is up and running. They received a $2k donation from Cargill. NORTH ROYALTON NON-RECOGNIZED CLUBS: Football: Tim Root Not Present No Report YMCA: Kevin Demming T-ball is starting soon. The port-a-potty has been delivered to the field. Mr. Demming said the fields need to work. Mr. Swim said it is private property, but they will work on the field as soon as possible. There are only 30 kids signed up for t-ball so far. Mr. Demming says that most wait until the last minute. The YMCA Sports camp is going to start on June 7 M-F 9am-4pm and goes through Aug 21 for 6-12 year olds. The 35 and 50 and over leagues going well and everyone paid on time. NEW BUSINESS OLD BUSINESS No old business ADJOURNMENT Moved by Dr. Kelly to adjourn the meeting, 2 nd Mr. Marnecheck.
