Joy s School of Dance presents Joy in the Journey! Recital 2018 Recital Information Packet Dear JSOD dancer parents! The big show is finally almost here! Please read all the way through this important information packet even if this is not your first dance recital! Our goal is to produce an amazing show with all logistical issues running as smoothly as possible. We have these rules and policies in place in order to produce a very professional and quality show. Please do not hesitate to ask any of the staff members a question at any time! We are here for you and your little star! Dance Recital Costumes Recital costumes (that have arrived) will be tried on and sent home with dancers the weeks of April 30 th - May 11 th. All costumes, the recital fee, and your tuition balance through April must be completely paid for before we can send your costumes home! Please take extra good care of these costumes at your home and label all costumes, shoes, and accessories with your dancer s name! Most costumes come with accessories that are easy to lose. You will find a very important information sheet in your child s costume bag that lists information on how to wear accessories and how to fix your dancer s hair for the recital. This sheet will also contain important information on dates and times of any extra rehearsals and the dress rehearsals as well as show times. Your child will also get a new pair of pink tights for ballet and tan tights for tap, jazz, contemporary, hip hop and musical theater. Recital Costume Pictures May 12 & 13 Aaron Jetelina is back this year for recital costume portraits! He s one of the most sought after photographers in Texas who specializes in dance. He s been trusted by over 15 dance studios all across Texas. The best part is you ve probably purchased action recital pictures from him. Some of the awesome features that will be offered this year: -Please sign up on JSOD website for your portrait time slot and MARK YOUR CALENDAR -All orders must be placed on portrait day. You will be able to view your individual portraits directly after your session. -Please come prepared and have all decision makers present. Portrait day highlights --NO sitting fee to take pictures --Instant viewing stations view and order your portraits directly after your session. --Multiple poses to choose from (3-5 poses per outfit) --Orders mailed directly to you within 3 weeks. --Packages starting at $25 with options for prints, products, and digital images ***As opposed to previous years, you DO NOT have to register for a time slot for each costume you would like to be photographed in! Sign up for 1 slot, and you're done! Register quickly as we are expecting slots to go quickly. We are very excited to be working with Aaron this year and have full confidence you will be pleased with his service as well! 1

Recital T-Shirts! We are so excited about the two art options for our Recital shirts this year! After much demand, we made a design for our male students and Dance Dads and Brothers this year! Recital Tshirt order forms will be available at the studio and emailed to you as an attachment. **We also will provide you a link to an online google form. You only need to submit your t-shirt order once either through the online form or on the paper forms available at each studio location. Sample sizes for children and adults will be available at the Bosque Location April 16 20 & April 30 May 11. They will be at the Hwy 84 Location April 23-27! There will be youth child sizes (S XL) and adult sizes (XS 3XL). All T-shirt orders will be due May 11th. All t-shirts will cost $15 each. Please make checks out to JSOD. Cash and Credit Card are also accepted. We can also add these charges to your online account and will give you the option to withdraw it from your card on file if you order online. Recital DVDs and Videos Magination Video Productions will be filming all shows. The easiest way to order is through their website at www.maginationvideo.com. Magination Video will also be in the lobby at recital to help you with order as well. No personal camcorders or cameras (including cell phones as recording devices) are allowed in the audience during the recital shows. Please respect this rule as we have worked hard on producing a professional show. Flashes from cameras affect the quality of the professional video and also can harm a dancer s vision on stage. Filming with personal devices including cell phones and ipads or tablets can also be very distracting to other audience members! Please be courteous! Recital Action Pictures! Aaron Jetelina will be taking action pictures of all the dancers during Dress Rehearsals! This year, his staff will be set up in the lobby selling 4x6 photographs before each show, during intermission and after each show! Don t miss these great pictures of your little star on the stage! Back-Stage Moms Each year we ask for only 2 3 moms to sign up to stay back stage with the class for the entire show. We will have sign-up sheets in May for backstage moms for each performance. Please pick up a copy of Back-Stage Mom Duties when you sign up. Back stage moms are in charge of watching their dance group the entire length of the recital in the dressing rooms, helping the teachers line them up, and helping with bathroom breaks. All moms are in charge of dressing their own dancers and fixing their own hair and make-up in the dressing rooms, but only official back stage moms will be allowed to help line the dancers up and go with the group to the side of the stage. Back Stage moms for the 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. shows will need to stay with the class in the dressing room until each dancer is picked up! This year all back stage 2

moms will be entered into a drawing for a $25 Chik-fil-a gift card! We will give away one gift card for each of the 9 a.m, 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. shows! Finale Rehearsals (Extra Rehearsals for 2 pm and 6 pm shows ONLY) At the end of each 2 pm and 6 pm show ONLY every dancer in the recital will go on stage together with their class and perform their final bows. During the afternoons of June 5-6, JSOD will have afternoon rehearsals for the finale. During finale practices, the students will practice lining up for final bows and also get to perform their class dances in the order of the show. ***We will still have regular scheduled classes this week too! **Finale Rehearsal Tuesday June 5, 1:00 3:30 pm at the Bosque Location 2pm Show Dancers ONLY Levels 1A1, 1A2, 1A3, 1B1, 1B2, 1B3, 1C1, 1C2, 2A1, 2A2, Beginning Hip Hop Monday & Wednesday, Intermediate Hip Hop 1 on Monday & Thursday, Musical Theater Production WEDNESDAY only, Pre-teen Classes, Teen Classes, Dance Team Class, Student Assistants **Finale Rehearsal Wednesday, June 6, 1:00 3:30 pm at the Bosque Location 6pm Show Dancers ONLY Levels 2B1, 2B2, 2C1, 2C2, 3A, 3B, 4, 5, 6, Intermediate Hip Hop 2 Wednesday & Thursday, Intermediate Contemporary 1, Intermediate Contemporary 2, Musical Theater Production TUESDAY only, Advanced Musical Theater, Advanced Contemporary 1 & 2, Modern, Dance Company Dress Rehearsal Students need to be dressed in full costume! ***AT MIDWAY PAC (800 N. ***Since we are running their age groups back-to-back, it is very important that moms help change their costumes very quickly during the rehearsal. Please don t worry about changing hair or make-up at dress rehearsal. Normally each class will find their spots, go over spacing, and run their dance once. If needed, we may run dances twice. Dress Rehearsal attendance is very important and mandatory for all dancers! It is important for your dancer to feel prepared and also very important to the other classmates and teachers that all dancers are present at Dress Rehearsal! Please remember that no food or drink is allowed in the Midway Performing Arts Building. Picnic tables are available outside of the facility. Please help us keep the dressing rooms and facilities clean so that we can use them again next year! Flash photography and video cameras including cell phones and ipad devices are not allowed during the recital performances. Both are allowed during Dress Rehearsal though. Dressing Room Rules! All performers need to arrive on time to their designated dressing room areas with hair and makeup done. Preschool and 5&6 Year Old, Homeschool Classes ONLY * we will NOT be pulling all of the classes on stage for a Finale at the end of the 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. shows this year. Your dancer will be free to leave after they perform their last dance. We do encourage parents and guests to stay for the duration of the show to get a full recital experience. Preschool, 5&6 Year Old, Homeschool Classes Each class will be assigned a special area that will be taped off with a specific color. Your dancer must stay in this color circle with the group until they are called to line up by a staff member. All moms are in charge of dressing your own child and fixing their hair and make-up, unless they are old enough to dress themselves! Moms after your child is completely ready in full costume, hair, and make-up, please let one of the back-stage moms know that you are leaving to sit in the audience and they are now in charge of your child. Before and After your dancer performs please wait to greet and hug them back in the dressing room only do not pull them out of line in the back-stage hall! Only official backstage moms are allowed in the area behind the stage. We need to keep this back-stage area running efficiently and as quietly as possible. All 2pm and 6pm Show Performers - All dancers must stay in their assigned areas for the entire length of the show. Remember: all dancers are in the finale at the end of the 2 pm and 6 pm Shows for final bows. Dancers are not allowed to watch the show from the audience. If your dancer needs to go to the bathroom please have them either go with a back-stage mom (3-6 year olds) or alert a back-stage mom before they leave the dressing room There is absolutely no running or playing around allowed in the dressing rooms. The stair areas of the band hall are completely off limits to everyone! We do encourage Levels 1 and up to practice their dances in the dressing rooms once they are ready in costumes, without disturbing the other classes. No men are allowed in the female dressing rooms. We do have a specific dressing room space for our male students. Dads and brothers, please wait in the hall to see your dancer. We want our dancers to feel as comfortable as possible! No food or drink other than water is allowed in the Midway Performing Arts Center Building, including the dressing rooms! Please keep all food outside of the building at all times. Please clean up after yourself in the dressing rooms after each performance. Please limit 1 mom or guardian to the dressing room and backstage area. It can get very crowded and we want the dancers to feel as comfortable as possible. Please have your family wait to greet your dancer in the lobby or the outside area after the show. 6

Additional Information and Rules Absolutely no saving seats before the auditorium doors are open or in between recital shows. Our Custodial staff will be coming through the audience in between all rehearsals and all shows. All programs, pieces of paper, or any other items placed on chairs in the audience before the doors open to the public at 8:30 a.m. (9 a.m. show) 10:30 a.m. (11 a.m. show) 1:30 p.m. (2 pm shows) and 5:30 p.m. (6 pm Shows) will be removed. Please remember that Video and Photography including cell phones and ipad devices is prohibited during all recital performances! The show is professionally filmed and photographed for your enjoyment. We invite you to live in the moment and truly enjoy the show! Cell phones and ipad devices can be very distracting to other audience members. Please be courteous! You are more than welcome to take as many pictures and video as much as you like during Dress Rehearsals only! Please only exit and enter the auditorium during intermission or between dances if you need to help dress your dancer. Walking across a row during the middle of a dance is very distracting and might cause another audience member to miss a part of their dancer s performance! Performers in the 2pm and 6pm shows are NOT allowed to sit in the audience and watch the show. We need for all performers to stay with their class in the dressing room throughout the entire performance. It can be very frustrating to staff and back stage moms and teachers when they are lining a class up and dancers are missing. We don t want your dancer to be sitting in the audience when their class is performing on stage! Dancers are not allowed in the lobby or the audience before the show or during intermission dressed in costumes. Please have your dancer put on a cover-up over their costume or change if they are in those areas of the building. Please help us keep our show as professional as possible! Please understand that staff members stationed at the stage back doors are only allowed to open the doors during specific times. Opening the back stage doors can cause light to flood the stage which can disturb special lighting effects. The staff members will allow dancers back stage in plenty of time before they perform. If your dancer is in the 2pm or 6pm shows, it is VERY important that they participate in BOTH Saturday and Sunday recital shows! It can be very confusing to other class members when dancers are not present to perform in a show. Plus, your dancer has worked very hard this year and deserves to shine for 2 days on the stage! After the Finale numbers of the 2pm and 6pm shows, staff members will escort all dancers safely back to the dressing rooms where a mom/female family member may pick them up.
