Ac Units By Roxy M. Baker The last month has been exiting for Ruth Moyer because we recently got Air Conditioning units! Mrs. Everett, the schools art teacher was one of the first people to receive an AC unit. I was so exited! I didn t even think the AC would be installed until 2011. I couldn t stop smiling! The installation was smooth with no problems. Said Mrs. Everett Many of the teachers were exited to receive the Ac unit. Mrs. Everett said, On the way home I posted it on Facebook so I told a lot of people. But I told by husband first. Many of the teachers who received the AC units sent thank you letters to the workers, Mr. Brewer, the Board of Education Members, and our Superintendent Mr. Williamson. Thanks to this project, all the class rooms on the third and fourth floor now have Air Conditioning. Learning Cottages By: Sydney Schuerman and Jake Ryan Have you ever wondered what s going on in the learning cottages? Well if you have, you need to read this! 1
Many teachers have said that they hate going out into bad weather to use the bathroom or to get a drink. But other wise there re pretty awesome! They look like a normal classroom. Each teacher had different opinions on space. Joey Deshler said it s a bit cramped. Mrs. McGraw still has her Steelers corner but everyone knows how much the Steelers stink! It s a pretty good temperature right now. They said they like the peace and quiet. They also like how all the rooms are together rather than far apart like last year. So to get to the point, the learning cottages are just right for the 3 rd grade! Pinwheels for Peace By Kaitlin Meyer and Carson Schell The Moyer students made Pinwheels for Peace during the month of September. Mrs. Everett thought of the idea when she was going to get her master s degree. Her master s degree was about teaching about peace and justice. She had people help her make the pinwheels. Some things she used were: beads and color tape. Mrs. Rhect helped Mrs. Everett make the pinwheels. A lot of pinwheels were made, 83 to be exact. The school is going to be selling them at Santa House for about 10 to about 15 dollars. For about 4 weeks the classes took turns coloring them in art class. They were allowed to color whatever they wanted. Any designs they wanted. For example, some kids put polka dots on their pinwheel. Someone else did the American flag, and someone else did highlands blue bird symbols. 2010 Oil Spill By: Lindsey Meyer and Lillian Reynolds 2
The 2010 oil spill happened on April 20 th. Everyone blames BP for this disaster. Eleven people were killed and nine were injured. 5,000 barrels of oil a day were released. The spill took place as a result of an offshore drilling in the Gulf of Mexico. It happened when a bubble of methane gas burst through several seals. Then it EXPLODED!! Most people are still afraid to fish! World Equestrian Games By Brendan Conley Every four years the World Equestrian Games are held the last games were held in 2006 and were in Germany. Ever since there was that home run in the Great American Ball Park, the Reds have been invited into the playoffs. That s right, for the first time in 15 YEARS the Reds have made the playoffs. And in game 1 the Reds sadly made playoff history by having the second no hitter in playoff history, 4-0. They then lose game 2 really, really badly. Then in game 3 the crowd stands for the whole round. Aroldis Chapman stepped up to the mound. Jay Bruce quotes, We had a lot of great performances with young players like Chapman. Kids around the school say, It s awesome they made the playoffs its disappointing they lost to the Phillies 3 times. But even kids outside the school were excited. Everyone is really sad that the Reds didn t make the World Series but everyone is happy that the Reds made the playoffs losing all their games but walking away with their heads high. Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief By Lillian Reynolds The Percy Jackson series is a great series, but my favorite is The Lightning Thief. It has action, mystery, and a lot more! Someone stole Zeus master bolt. Zeus thinks that Percy Jackson has stolen it. So it is up to him to find it and return it. He also meets a few other gods. Also one of the chapters is really creepy. I think the plot sounds interesting but let s ask someone else. Jake Ryan in fourth grade said It is the best book he as ever read, and the other book are just as great!! Well I hope your convinced that The Lightning Thief and the Percy Jackson series are great books. Halloween By Sydney Cooper Halloween is a fun holiday for people to run around and get candy (for kids ages 2-14)kids sometimes dress-up and get candy, some people just go with the kids to make sure they are safe. Did you know that people put pumpkins out to scare away vampires that are why we put out pumpkins on Halloween? Also some people think that spirits will rise from the dead so watch out or one might get you they don t hide they are among us that s why we don t talk to strangers because you know wa- ha-hahahhhhhhhhhhhhh! 6
