The Fisher Cats got only five hits and two walks in the game, striking out 10 times. Mike Lee took the loss, surrendering two runs on nine hits over five innings while striking out one. Cory Burns threw a season-high three perfect frames of relief, and fanned five to set another season-best. TODAY S STARTER: Lefty Scott Barnes is on the hill for New Hampshire Sunday in the rubber match, having taken the loss his last time out against the Richmond Flying Squirrels. Barnes gave up three runs on five hits over five innings and struck out two. This is his third start for the Fisher Cats, and he is 1-1 with a 2.70 ERA since moving into the starting rotation. Barnes first nine innings (across two games) as a starting pitcher this season were perfect. He is 2-2 with a 3.92 ERA with New Hampshire this season. LAWRENCE OF LEGEND: Casey Lawrence is etching his name in the Fisher Cats record books. His win Thursday against Richmond gave him 11 on the season, and he s the sixth New Hampshire pitcher to reach that singleseason level and the first since Ryan Tepera in 2013. He now has 20 wins in a Fisher Cats uniform, surpassing Deck McGuire for the franchise mark for most career wins. BETTER CHECK THE BATS FOR HOLES: August has not been a strong month for the Fisher Cats offense, which has sputtered through the first seven games of the month. Fisher Cats hitters are batting a meager.191, and no batter is hitting over.300 (Kevin Nolan s.296 mark is tops on the team). The team is averaging only 2.57 runs scored per game, and has yet to record 10 or more hits in a game. Over their last 29 innings, Fisher Cats batters have only 17 hits and five runs. AT HOME ON THE ROAD?: Lawrence has had significantly better success away from Northeast Delta Dental Stadium this season. The righty holds a 4-6 record with a 6.12 ERA when pitching in front of the home crowd in Manchester. By contrast, Lawrence is 7-4 with a strong 3.00 ERA when the Fisher Cats are on the road. DRAT THAT PLEFFNER FELLOW!: After Scott Barnes departed the July 28 game against Harrisburg after five perfect frames, Jimmy Cordero allowed two walks but no hits in his two innings of action. The no-hitter lasted until the eighth when the game's third pitcher, Chad Girodo, allowed a leadoff single to Shawn Pleffner to August by the Numbers Record 3-4 Home 1-1 Away 2-3 Team ERA 3.47 Starters ERA 3.26 Bullpen ERA 3.80 Team AVG.191 Runs/Game 2.57 Home Runs 2 start the frame. For Pleffner, it was the second time he foiled a sublime Fisher Cats pitching performance in a week. On Tuesday, July 21, Casey Lawrence had retired 19 in a row until Pleffner entered the game as a pinch-hitter and broke up Lawrence's perfect bid with a clean base hit. NEW HAMPSHIRE ALUMS ALL OVER: With the MLB trade deadline pushing in and the Toronto Blue Jays in contention within the AL East, plenty of former Fisher Cats were on the move. On Tuesday, the Blue Jays shipped out Jeff Hoffman to the Colorado Rockies as part of the package that brought Troy Tulowitzki to Toronto, on the day that Hoffman had been scheduled to make his third start for the Fisher Cats. On Thursday, Toronto dealt former Fisher Cat hurlers Matt Boyd and Daniel Norris (along with lower-level arm Jairo Labourt) to the Detroit Tigers in exchange for ace pitcher David Price. On Friday, reliever Jimmy Cordero made the move to the Philadelphia Phillies as part of a deal that brings outfielder Ben Revere to the Blue Jays. FANTASTIC 42 AND ON HOLD: Dalton Pompey picked up a third-inning RBI single and tripled to extend his team-record on-base streak to 42 games on 7/16. With his promotion to Buffalo on 7/17, the streak will halt there for now. During the streak, which dates back to 2014, Pompey is hitting.371 with a.428 on-base percentage. He posted eye-popping numbers in June, batting.372 with an OPS of 1.066, five homers and 15 RBI. FISHER CATS ALUMNI REPORT Rajai Davis hit a two-run homer (his third of the year) to help drive the Detroit Tigers past the Boston Red Sox 7-6 on Saturday Aaron Sanchez dealt a scoreless frame of relief with one strikeout in the Toronto Blue Jays 6-0 win over the New York Yankees. Ryan Goins went 1-4 with a single, while Kevin Pillar was hitless in four at-bats. Upcoming Games Probables Time Tuesday, August 11 Akron RHP Adam Plutko (6-4, 2.71) v.
