Arizona Diamondbacks (58-78) vs. LOS ANGELES DODGS (76-60) RHP Zack Greinke (12-4, 4.17) vs. RHP Kenta Maeda (13-8, 3.38) Monday, Sept. 5, 2016 5:10 p.m. PT Dodger Stadium Los Angeles, CA Game 137 Home Game 72 (44-27) Night Game 99 (50-48) TV: SNLA/SNLA Spanish Radio: AM 570 (Eng.)/KTNQ 1020 AM (Span.)/AM 1540 (Kor.) THREE-DAY WEEKEND!: The Dodgers, winners of three of their last four games, continue their six-game homestand (2-1) with the first of three games against the D-backs. Los Angeles took two of three games from the Padres to open the homestand, including yesterday s 7-4 win, to improve to a season high-tying 16 games over.500. Following the Arizona series, the Dodgers will embark on a 10-game road trip, their longest of the season, with games against the Marlins, Yankees and D- backs. The Dodgers 44-27 record at home (.620) is the second best in the National League, trailing only the Cubs (51-20,.718). Los Angeles is in pursuit of its fourth consecutive divisional title and continues to lead the NL West, 3.0 games ahead of the San Francisco Giants, which ties for its largest lead of the year. The Dodgers are unbeaten in their last nine home series against the D-backs (8-0-1), last dropping a set to Arizona at Dodger Stadium June 10-12, 2013. Los Angeles has posted a 21-7 home record vs. the D-backs in that span, while outscoring Arizona 138-92 in those 28 games. Overall, the Dodgers have posted a 35-15 record (.700) against Arizona since the start of the 2014 season, the best of any MLB team against a divisional opponent during that time (Source: Stats, LLC). DOING IT ALL: Corey Seager, a top candidate for National League Rookie of the Year honors, ranks among the NL leaders in hits, (164, T- 3 rd ), runs (89, T-5 th ), doubles (37, T-3 rd ), total bases (276, 5 th ), batting average (.313, 6 th ), multi-hit games (48, 4 th ), extra-base hits (63, 6 th ) and slugging percentage (.527, 10 th ). Seager s 23 home runs are the most ever by a Dodger shortstop and are tied for the third most by a Los Angeles rookie with Frank Howard (1960) and behind only Mike Piazza (35, 1993) and Joc Pederson (26, 2015). He already holds the Los Angeles record for doubles and runs scored by a rookie and is approaching the team single-season rookie leaders in most major offensive categories: Los Angeles Rookie Leaders, Since 1958 Category Seager (Rank) Leader Hits 164 (3 rd ) Sax (180, 1982) Runs 89 (1 st ) Seager Doubles 37 (1 st ) Seager Home Runs 23 (T-3rd) Piazza (35, 1993) Average.313 (2 nd ) Piazza (.318, 1993) SLG.527 (2 nd ) Piazza (.561, 1993) OBP.375 (1 st ) Piazza (.370, 1993) Source: Stats, LLC GOLDEN GLOVEWORK: The Dodgers have been one of the Majors best fielding teams this year, ranking third in the big leagues in fielding percentage (.988) and committing the second-fewest errors of any team (62, one behind Washington). THE LONGBALL: The Dodgers are averaging 1.19 home runs per game this year (162 HR/136 G), their most since 2004 (1.25 HR/G) and on pace to be the fourth-highest mark in Los Angeles history. Yasmani Grandal has homered in consecutive games and leads Major League catchers with a career-high 23 home runs, the most by a Los Angeles backstop since Paul Lo Duca s 25 homers in 2001. Yasiel Puig tied a season high with three runs scored and also drove in three yesterday with a third-inning home run, his first homer since July 4. Puig has posted a.320/.407/.474 slashline in his last 30 games with the Dodgers since June 21, going 31- for-97 with six doubles, three homers and 17 RBI in that span, and has hit well against the D-backs during the last two seasons, batting.371 (23-for-62) in 15 games since 2015. Since the All-Star break, the Dodgers rank among the Majors best in team batting average (.268, 6 th ), slugging percentage (.447, 4 th ) and runs per game (5.07, 3 rd ). The Dodgers slugging percentage is on pace to be the highest in Los Angeles history after the All-Star break, outpacing the previous mark of.434 set in 2008. Overall, Maeda has won five of his last six decisions and has limited opposing hitters to a.223 batting average, the 10 th -best mark in the NL. The Dodgers had four consecutive rookie starting pitchers Aug. 27-31 with Julio Urías, Brock Stewart, Kenta Maeda and Ross Stripling and are slated to do it again this week with José De León (yesterday), Maeda, Stripling and Stewart. According to Stats, LLC, prior to last week, the Dodgers hadn t pitched four consecutive rookie starters since they were in Brooklyn, Sept. 8-10, 1952 (Ken Lehman, Billy Loes, Ray Moore, Johnny Rutherford). In the fifth inning of yesterday s game, San Diego s Travis Jankowski was originally credited with a bunt single before a throwing error by José De León allowed both Padres runners to advance. The scoring on the play has been revised to a straight error on the pitcher (no hit), changing De León s final line to 6.0 innings, five hits and only three earned runs (four total runs allowed). THE BIG MAN: Kenley Jansen picked up his 41 st save of the season yesterday and ranks among the National League s best in saves (41, 2 nd ), A (1.82, 4 th ), opponents batting average (.153, 3rd), WHIP (0.67, 1 st MLB) and strikeouts (88 in 59.1 innings, 4 th ). Jansen is three saves shy of his career high of 44, set in 2014, and has posted just the seventh 40-save season in franchise history. Jansen s next appearance will be the 400 th of his career. The Dodger bullpen ranks second in the NL in both A (3.39, 183 /485.1 IP) and opponents batting average (.219), while leading the league in WHIP (1.14). FAR, GOOD: The Dodgers have had 27 players on the DL this year, which ties the 2012 Boston Red Sox for the most by a team since 1987 (Source: Stats, LLC). Brandon McCarthy (right hip stiffness) is scheduled to make his first rehab start tonight for Single-A Rancho Cucamonga. He last pitched on Aug. 13 and has gone 2-2 with a 3.63 A in eight starts for the Dodgers this year. Andre Ethier (fractured right tibia) has gone 9-for-28 (.321) with four doubles and three RBI in eight rehab games with Rancho Cucamonga. Scott Kazmir (neck inflammation) is expected to make a rehab start on Wednesday for Triple-A Oklahoma City. FOR ALL THE MARBLES: The minor league regular season comes to an end today, with four of the eight Dodger affiliates registering winning seasons - Triple-A Oklahoma City (80-60), Single-A Rancho Cucamonga (79-60), the Rookie-level AZL Dodgers (33-22) and the DSL Dodgers 1 (42-27). Oklahoma City (division champions), Rancho Cucamonga (wild card) and Great Lakes (wild card) qualified for the postseason and will open the playoffs on Wednesday.
