While the Golden Eagles enter the game having won seven of their last 10, UNM has won 17 of its last 20. leads the all-time series 3-2, the last game coming in the 2005 season opener in The Pit for the preseason WNIT. UNM won the game 69-52. All three of the Lobos' wins against ORU have come in The Pit. Antiesha Brown scored 10 of her team-high 12 points in the second half, and Alexa Chavez hit a pair of huge free throws with 37 seconds left as the Lobos held off a furious North Dakota rally to pull out a 54-51 win on Wednesday night at Johnson Center. Freshman Kenya Pye came off the bench to hit two 3-pointers to help the Lobos survive Brown's early foul trouble. Atoé Jackson's 3-pointer with 2:44 left in the game gave Oral Roberts its first lead, and the Golden Eagles held Texas State without a field goal for the final 5:21 of the game to take a 57-54 win in San Marcos, Texas on Wednesday night. Vicky McIntyre had 16 points and 22 rebounds, and Jackson added 13 points. McIntyre became just the ninth player in NCAA history to record 500 rebounds in a season, and she needs 32 more to break the single-season record held by Oklahoma's Courtney Paris in 2006. 2014-15 women s basketball Oral Roberts Golden Eagles PROJECTED STARTERS key RESERVES Coach: Misti Cussen Southern Nazarine 93 ORU Record: 43-48 (3rd Season) 14-15 Record: 17-15, 9-7 Summit Oral Roberts Guard - No. 0 - Atoe Jackson - 5-9 - Senior PPG: 9.3 RPG: 3.8 FT%: 79.7 Guard - No. 2 - Jordan Doyle - 5-6 - Freshman PPG: 7.5 RPG: 2.2 APG: 2.1 MPG: 32.2 Forward - No. 12 - Dorottya Balla - 6-1 - Sophomore PPG: 8.8 RPG: 2.2 FT%: 82.8 3FG%: 31.8 Forward - No. 15 - Faith Ihim - 5-9 - Freshman PPG: 7.3 RPG: 4.4 FG%: 47.8 Center - No. 34 - Vicky McIntyre - 6-7 - Senior PPG: 15.7 RPG: 15.9 BPG: 4.7 FG%: 50.8 FT%: 80.8 Guard - No. 22 - Jordan Gilbert - 5-10 - Freshman PPG: 4.4 RPG: 2.1 APG: 1.5 MPG: 16.5 Guard - No. 13 - Tysia Manuel - 5-10 - Senior PPG: 2.0 RPG: 2.1 MPG: 13.1 Guard - No. 23 - Bernadett Balla - 5-9 - Sophomore PPG: 4.4 RPG: 4.0 MPG: 15.2 1

new mexico game notes THERE S NO PLACE LIKE HOME Special is an arena that can be identified by six letters. The Pit is nationally recognized as one of the top basketball venues. Need more evidence? How about Sports Illustrated ranking it as one of the top 20 sporting venues, of any sport, in the world for the 20th century. The Pit is truly a special place, and it has created an unparalleled environment for the women s basketball program. The Lobos have led the Mountain West in attendance every year of the conference s existence since the 1999-00 season. During that same span, the program has ranked in the top 12 nationally in attendance in each of those years. ALBUQUERQUE S OWN When head coach Yvonne Sanchez calls Albuquerque her home, she really means it. Sanchez enters her fourth season at the helm of the Lobo program after spending the previous 11 seasons as an assistant on staff under coach Don Flanagan. However, Yvonne Sanchez and basketball in Albuquerque go back over a quarter of a century. Sanchez was a prep stand-out for Flanagan at Eldorado High School in Albuquerque in the 1980s. 2014-15 captains Senior Antiesha Brown and junior Bryce Owens are the team s captains in 2014-15. Brown was the team s leading scorer last season and an honorable mention All-Mountain West selection. Owens is the active leader in games and played for the Lobos. Student-athlete spirit Academic excellence has become the norm for the women s basketball. The Lobos are regularly taking home Mountain West Academic all-conference and Scholar-Athlete awards, but they shine in national academic rankings as well. For six of the last seven seasons, and eight of the last 10 seasons, UNM has finished in the WBCA s Academic Top 25 rankings. Lobos from near and far The Lobo women s basketball roster is a mixture of home-grown and regional talent, sprinkled with representation from four other states and one country. Four Lobos hail from, including two from Albuquerque. Five players come from Texas (including one Albuquerque transplant), one from Nevada and one from Utah. Florida, Minnesota and Wisconsin also are represented in the women s basketball family. Josie Greenwood is the lone international player on the team, and has different Lobo family ties. The Hobart, Australia native is the sister of men s basketball point guard Hugh Greenwood. 2014-15 women s basketball Mountain West Media poll The Lobos were picked to finish ninth in the Mountain West preseason poll released in October. 2013-14 regular-season champion Colorado State grabbed the top spot in the poll, listed below: Rank Team (1st-place votes) Points 1. Colorado State (21) 276 2. Boise State (4) 241 3. Wyoming (3) 235 4. Fresno State 181 5. Nevada 155 6. UNLV 143 7. San Diego State 134 8. Utah State 123 9. 122 10. San José State 81 11. Air Force 27 No Lobos made the preseason All-Mountain West team. However, senior Antiesha Brown earned College Sports Madness preseason second-team all-conference recognition. Toughest non-conference Schedule? If s non-conference schedule doesn t get the team ready for Mountain West play this season, nothing will. new mexico game notes There s no place like Home II UNM has with a 14-2 record at home after a 54-51 win over North Dakota in Johnson Center on March 18 (also considered a home game even though it wasn't at WisePies Arena/The Pit) and extended its home winning streak to 13 games. The streak is the longest since the end of the 2004-05 season (14 games). The Lobos are 7-10 away from home but did win four of their last five. UNM went undefeated in conference play for the first time since 2004-05 and the fifth time in school history. Better Closeouts in 2014-15 In games decided by six points or fewer, UNM is 7-2 in its last nine after its 54-51 win vs. North Dakota on March 18. In the 16 six-point games prior, dating to 2013-14, the Lobos had lost 15 games, including four straight to start 2014-15. UNM also is 5-0 in MW games decided by five points or fewer in '14-15; it was 1-8 in such games a season ago (including the MW Tournament). A Tale of Two seasons The combination of one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the county, preseason dismissals of a pair of players expected to play significant roles this season and the growing pains of breaking in four true freshmen players led to a 1-7 start this season. That is a distant memory in the wake of UNM's 20-5 record since Here is a comparison of the team's statistics during their two "seasons." Category (per game) First 8 games Last 25 games Scoring margin -15.0 +7.2 Field-goal percentage 37.6% 40.6% Field-goal percentage defense 42.3% 37.2% Free-throw percentage 60.1% 70.1% 3-pointers allowed 5.9 4.1 Turnovers per game 21.5 14.5 Turnover margin -7.5 +2.6 Assists per game 10.0 12.1 Assist/turnover ratio 0.5 0.8 Steals per game 6.5 8.8 Blocks per game 3.3 4.0 The Road Less Traveled Much of UNM's turnaround also can be attributed to its ability to find ways to win away from the Pit in conference. The Lobos lost their first seven games on the road or in neutral games. But a 70-47 win at Air Force triggered a new pattern of behavior in which won five of seven to finish the regular season and then won two of three games in the MW Tournament at the Thomas & Mack Center, aka "The Pit West." The following is a before and after look from the road: Category (per game) First 7 Last 10 Scoring margin -18.0 +3.6 Field-goal percentage 36.5% 41.0% Field-goal percentage defense 44.1% 39.4% 3-point field-goal percentage 25.3% 27.9% Free-throw percentage 60.8% 75.1% Turnovers per game 24.7 15.2 Turnover margin -7.7 +1.3 Assists per game 7.7 11.6 Assist/turnover ratio 0.3 0.8 Blocks per game 2.4 3.1 More on the REsurgence Several players have found their niche as the season has progressed, which has contributed to the Lobos' turnaround. Among them: Bryce Owens The junior point guard's assist-to-turnover ratio in her last 17 games is 1.47 (62 assists, 42 turnovers), compared to 0.41 in her first 14 (22 assists, 32 turnovers). She tied her season high with three 3-pointers in the MW Tournament semifinals game against Fresno State. Brea Mitchell In her last 15 games, the junior guard is 24- of-58 from the floor (41.4 percent) and has 41 total rebounds. Mitchell was 10-of-35 (28.6 percent) and had 10 rebounds in the 10 games before that. She had a career-high six rebounds vs. Boise State on Feb. 25. Mitchell was 5-of-12 from 3-point range in the MW Tournament. Kianna Keller The sophomore forward has blocked 35 shots in her last 23 games after managing just nine in her first 10 games of the season. She's also has increased her scoring average from 1.2 to 1.8 in that span. Laneah Bryan The freshman guard has made 15 of 29 fieldgoal attempts (51.7 percent) and 7 of 14 3-pointers (50.0 percent) starting with conference play. During non-conference play, Bryan was 5-of-19 from the floor (20.8 percent) and 1-of-5 from 3-point territory (20 percent). Kenya Pye The freshman guard scored 14 points in UNM's first 15 games but has 38 in her last 19, including two 3s vs. Nevada on Feb. 14 and against North Dakota on March 18. "D" Lightful During their 18-game conference schedule, the Lobos held 12 foes to fewer than 40-percent shooting. In a seven game span during UNM's eight-game winning streak earlier this season, the Lobos did not allowed a foe to shoot 40 percent from the floor. San José State shot 39.7 percent, which was been the best during UNM in that span. The Lobos forced Colorado State to shoot 24.7 percent from the floor (13-of-54) on Feb. 11, the worst percentage against UNM this season. The Lobos also held six of their last seven opponents at home to less than 40 percent shooting. Signature Win II Before defeating Colorado State (with a 17-5 record coming into the Feb. 11 game), UNM had not lost to a team with a losing record but also had not beaten a team with a winning record. The combined record of the teams that have beaten the Lobos before the game against CSU was 158-65 (.709 winning percentage). The combined record of the teams UNM had defeated was 80-136 (.370 winning percentage). Bench Strength The Lobos have won 11 straight games in which their bench has outscored the opposing team's bench and is 12-3 overall this season. UNM is 8-8 in games in which its opponents' bench has scored more, and 1-1 in games in which bench scoring was even. 6 Www.Golobos.com

new mexico game notes Worker Ant Senior guard Antiesha Brown has scored in double figures in 15 straight games and 26 of her last 30 games. Brown scored a season-high 23 points during the Mountain West Tournament championship game and made the All-Tournament Team. Brown's performance during the UNM Thanksgiving Invitational earned her a spot on that All-Tournament team. Brown became the 19th player to reach 1,000 points when she scored 21 points against Frenso State on Feb. 28. She is in 11th place on UNM's career scoring list with 1,103 points. Brown earned her second MW Player of the Week honors for the week of Feb. 25-28 in wins over Boise State and Fresno State. She averaged 18.5 points, 7.5 rebound, 2.0 steals and 1.5 assists in the two wins. Her first award came Jan. 7-10 in wins over San Diego State and Utah State. She averaged 20 points, 3.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game. The Clovis, N.M. native also is a nominee for the Allstate Good Works Team, honoring student-athletes active in the community. josie AND THE Highlanders Against the UC Riverside Highlanders in the championship game of the UNM Thanksgiving Tournament, sophomore forward Josie Greenwood, sister of Lobo men's point guard Hugh, had career highs in points (15), field goals (seven), field-goal attempts (11), offensive rebounds (five) and minutes (24), tied for a career high with two assists and was one off her career high with seven rebounds. Greenwood is second on the team in field-goal shooting at 46.8 percent. All-Around Performer Junior forward Khadijah Shumpert is enjoying an excellent season in 2014-15. She scored a career-high 27 points and added 12 rebounds for her fourth career double-double in UNM s 84-68 win over Cal Poly on Dec. 18. She also has scored 17 points twice the latest coming in a 63-47 win at San Diego State on Feb. 18. Shumpert, who averaged 12.7 points and 9.3 rebounds per game in the three season-opening games in Chicago, earned a spot on the Maggie Dixon Classic All-Tournament team. Shumpert recorded her third career double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds against UTPA in the season opener. The Minneapolis, Minn., native also scored her first career 3-pointer against Stanford on Nov. 24. During Mountain West play, Shumpert averaged 9.7 points per game, usually against double-coverage that has freed up UNM's perimeter players for more open shots that fueled the team's chase for a MW regular-season championship. She currently has made 14 consecutive free throws to raise her average from 65.6 percent to 68.9. 'Reese's pieces True freshman guard Cherise Beynon,, nicknamed "Reese," had her best game of the season in UNM's biggest game so far, a 67-40 win over Colorado State on Feb. 11. The freshman scored a career-high 18 points, dished out four assists tying a career high and pulling down a team-best eight rebounds. She is averaging 1.9 steals per game over her last 21 games and has led the team in rebounding 12 times this season. Beynon (pronounced BAY-nun) made an immediate splash this season, tying for the team-high in points against No. 18 DePaul with 14. During the three-game Maggie Dixon Classic, the Las Vegas, Nev., native averaged 8.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. She also scored 14 points in UNM s game against topranked Stanford on Nov. 24 and had 13 points all in the second half at Fresno State on Dec. 31. Beynon had her first double-digit rebounding day Jan. 21 vs. UNLV with 10. Staff of enchantment Besides coach Yvonne Sanchez s roots, the UNM staff has several other connections to the Land of Enchantment. Assistant coach Amy Beggin is a 2010 graduate of UNM and just one of 17 Lobo players to score 1,000 points during her collegiate career. She became the program s video coordinator in 2011 and worked her way up to director of operations and now assistant coach, where she is in her first season. Jourdan Erskine replaced Beggin as the team s director of operations. Erskine played for the Lobos from 2009-13 and was a team captain her senior year. Erskine was the team s video coordinator last season. That video role now has been filled by Vera Jo Bustos, who was a standout prep player at West Las Vegas High School. She is the school s all-time leader in points, rebounds, assists, steals and games started. The team s fourth-year strength and conditioning coordinator is another former Lobo, Molly McKinnon. McKinnon (1998-2002) finished her UNM career ranked in the top 20 in scoring and rebounding and in the top five in 3-point field-goal percentage. Future s so bright The Lobos have signed three players for the 2015-16 season: Emily Lines, a 6-foot-1 guard from Naples, Fla., Jannon Otto, a 6-1 guard/ forward from Hesperia, Calif., and Jaisa Nunn, a 6-3 post from Kirkland, Wash. BlueStar Basketball listed UNM s class as an honorable mention Top-50 recruiting class, the highest-rated in the Mountain West. All three are McDonald s All-American Games nominees. I ve had the privilege of working with her on various committees and boards through the WBCA, and her commitment to both our game and young people is extraordinary. Yvonne is known across the country as a tireless, energetic recruiter. Now that same energy and passion will undoubtedly be breathed into every aspect of the program. - Sherri Coale, head women s basketball coach, Oklahoma Sooners Yvonne Sanchez has worked every job in basketball except the job that required an 18-inch seat change. She has studied, recruited and marketed the UNM basketball program with passion and patience as she prepared for an opportunity to be Head Coach.
