REEF BREEZES Hole in One August 10 th 2018 Ph: 9971 8113 Fax: 9982 4648 Email: office@longreefgolfclub.com.au CAPTAIN S CORNER A first hole in one is memorable even more so for Steve Spillane who spoke eloquently about his first xxxx. Men s Foursomes Championship Congrats to the round 1 winners and good luck on Saturday in the semi finals. The final is Sat 18 Aug, 36 holes for Championship, 18 holes for B & C Grade. With the earlier sunrise and longer days, we have moved to the summer timesheets. This gives us a larger spread of times which should overcome some of the hold ups we have recently experienced. We are experiencing a spate of play offs for the Monthly Medals. In the July Medal play off Jimmy Moore won A Grade, Phil Blanchard B and Peter Lindwall C. Again, in August we had ties. Paul Deiman and David Slaytor A Grade with Peter French and Chad Alston in C Grade. Peter took out the Vince Horan Medal on count back. Long term member Brian Ratcliffe won the B Grade medal, his first, and claims to be the oldest member to win his first medal. Some others on a roll, Mick Snell winning two Wednesdays in a row and Rob Hansor backing up Mondays win with another on Wednesday. Juniors Kai went to Qld and cleand up the locals winning his age group in the Burleigh Junior Classic. After a poor start he came home well in 3 under. Masters Pennant - Final Well done to Mona Vale who had a relatively easy win in the final against Castle Hill. Shows how close we were to the trophy. Forster Visit Sat 8 & Sun 9 September Our annual contest against our reciprocal club Forster/Tuncurry is on shortly. This year we visit Forster. For those that haven t played Tuncurry it is a sand based all-weather championship layout with bent greens, couch fairways and tees. Co-designed by Kel Nagle and Mike Cooper, the course was literally hewn from seaside bush with banksia and tea tree plants lining the fairways and is regarded as one of the best NSW country courses. The schedule is Stableford Comp on the Sat from 11.30 with the Longy v Forster 2Ball on Sunday from 10.30. Lots of accommodation and only 3 hours drive. See Peter Frith if you are interested in representing Green Renovations Mon 20 & Tue 21 Aug As we could only do a minor renovation in autumn this one will be major with deep 16mm tynes. The course, including practice areas, are closed for the two days. Les Browne Captain

FROM THE WOMEN Our Captain s Trophy finalists began their matchplay campaign this week, accompanied by some extremely challenging weather. Jenni Brown, Pauline McMahon, Lyn Harper and Arlene Veith were the winners in Round 1. The winners in Thursday s semi-final were Jenni Brown and Arlene Veith. Congratulations to them and we wish them both the best of luck in next week s final. Last Friday the Bronze 4 pennant team played well, drawing with Roseville in their game at Warringah. They very nearly won the match. Congratulations to Sue Rossi and Larka Kliman who scored wins and Kathy Johnson who squared. The remaining two matches finished on the 18 th. Next week the team, comprising Kathy Johnson, Wendy Langthorne, Sue Dewell, Caroline Burner and Sue Rossi play Cammeray at Castle Cove. We wish them all the best. Upcoming Events Thursday August 16 - Count Your Putts stroke game, enter online Friday August 17 - Bronze 1V Pennant Presentation Thursday August 23 Fun team game, details and entry sheet in the locker room Friday August 24 - Players and Caddies 11 hole game followed by lunch. NB August 20 and 21 Course Renovations Rookies Quite a large group of Rookies braved the fierce Tuesday winds to play 11 holes. The winner on the day was Aki Lee (31) scoring 16pts and winning a $20 voucher. go to Liz Patrick, Babs Robertson, Jen McKinlay, Felicity Brown and Judith Kerr. Thanks to Karen Smith and Leonie Malcolm for helping out. A group of Rookies will be attending the Mona Vale Swingers Invitational being held Monday August 27. Entries for this event have now closed. On the second hole Joe hit the tee shot which ended just short of the green. Allan played a magnificent chip shot which finished about 20 cm from the hole. Joe putted the ball which stayed on the lip of the hole and in disgust Joe hastily tapped the ball into the hole. Which is correct? a. Joe and Allan incurred a two stroke penalty. b. Allan must replace the ball on the lip of the hole and with his own club putt the ball into the hole. Their score for the hole will be six which includes a two stroke penalty. c. Joe and Allen lost the hole.

WOW! The race for the Friday club winter comp is on in earnest. After 5 weeks with the best 4 scores counting David Quinn leads with 139 stableford points from Nicki Wiebe just a shot behind. But there are lots of threats lurking, many players have 2 or 3 good scores in and just need a couple more good rounds to get into the mix. Remember it s the best 4 rounds from the 9 weeks of July and August so there s 4 weeks to go. It will be very tight and a race to the finish. Last week s winners of the fine wine draw were David Ronald and Susan Ramsay.. More winners this week.
