Shooting Sports A big thank you goes out to everyone that helped last weekend making our Clover Drive and bake sale so successful!!! It s time for blood cards to be ordered for the Missouri State Fair. Let Sarah know soon how many you need. They need to be ordered within the next 1-2 weeks and returned to the Extension Office before May 15. Archery s 1st meeting will be April 10 at 6pm at the Callaway Extension Office. More dates are coming for all the shooting sports disciplines. Dates will be posted on the Callaway County Extension 4-H calendar as dates are set and in the 4-H newsletter. Member in Good Standing Don t forget to check this guideline to make sure you are completing all of the requirements to show at the fair. (The Callaway Youth Expo has separate requirements to sell at the fair.) Countywide Rabbits & Poultry -Meetings start in May for both of these projects. See the 1st page of the newsletter for dates and times. Camp Clover Point It s time to start thinking about summer camp. Attached is the camps we offer at Camp Clover Point during the month of June. Scholarships through United Way can help pay for up to 1/2 of the camp cost. We also have scholarships available for 1st year campers for traditional camp. Transportation is provided for traditional camp from the Callaway Extension Office. Email Sarah at rohrbachs@missouri.edu for camp forms. Beef Fitting Clinic-The Chuck McCullough Fitting Clinic will be held at the CYE grounds on April 26-28. Information flyer and registration form are attached. There are a only a few more spots available. Show Me Quality Assurance-Other dates are: April 25, Audrain County and March 18 for Cole County. The website is also back up. For online certification go to www.agebb.missouri.edu/smqa/index.htm Regional Happenings 4-H Camp Camps are offered all through the month of June. See attached flyer for more information on camps available for kids and adults. Camp forms are due on May 1 to the Callaway Extension office. The Livingston Co. 4-H & FFA Dog Training Program-will be hosting a state-wide, open dog show in Chillicothe, MO on June 15, 2019. All Missouri 4-H & FFA dog project members are welcome to attend! More information about the show and entry forms can be found on our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/livcodogs/). Robotics-Calling all 5th-8th grade future robotics champions! Meetings will be held Tuesdays from 5:30 to 7pm at Helias Catholic High School through April. Come join the Helias Catholic Robotics team to work with EV3 robots on engineering design and computer programming. Dogs Project-The Mid-MO Dogs 4-H Spin Club will be forming in Jefferson City starting in April. If you would like to be a part of this SPIN club let Sarah know to add it to your project list. More information is attached at the end of this newsletter. (SPIN clubs are open to current members and are short term experiences for those that would like to be a part of 4-H). Mizzou Trap Academy-June 20 22 at Prairie Grove (same place as the state shooting sports match events held in September. April is National Volunteer Appreciation Month-4H ers across the nation will pledge their hands to larger service leading positive change to empowers their peers and their communities. The month long 4-H True Leaders in Service campaign will kick-off the first day of April, and culminate with the National 4H Day of Service on Saturday, April 27, 2019! If your 4-H group has an existing/ongoing service-learning project (or holds an event) anytime during the month of April, you can join in the nationwide campaign! 4-H service projects/special events can be registered in advance at the website below. Then after your project/event, share a photo and description of your results for the whole 4-H world to see, including Aubrey! One 4-H group that pins a service project to the map will receive 10 FREE tickets and parking at the Missouri State Fair!Sample social media message, email, and planning guide are available at the website below. State Robotics Competition-The date of the State 4-H Robotics/STEM contest will be on Saturday, April 13, at the Memorial Union on the MU Campus. This is a change from the May date. More details will come on the challenges available in coming days. This date change is to coincide with Show Me Mizzou event that where campus colleges and schools will have open doors and activities for families and prospective students. This program is designed to promote 4-H and 4-H Shooting Sports throughout the state. If selected you will receive training that will allow you to be an advocate for the program. Ambassadors will provide public relations support at special events and help make the shooting sports program more visible. Shifts are needed from 9am-12pm and 11:30am-2:30pm. This will count for your CYE work day. Please email Stacie Smithee if you would like to work - staciesmithee@yahoo.com. New This Year-Anyone exhibiting in the 4-H home arts building and not selling in the livestock auction will have the chance to sell their project in a silent auction on Saturday night of the CYE. Requirements: 1) Needs to be a blue ribbon or state fair winner. 2) Needs to have an extra form filled out when brought in for judging, 3) Those selling may be required to do an extra 2 hour shift at the CYE (details to come). CYE Clean Up Dates-Sat., April 13th from 9am-12pm, Sat., May 18th from 9am-12pm, Wed. May 29 from 6pm-9pm, Sat., June 22 from 9am-12pm, Wed., July 3 from 6pm-9pm, and Sun., July 14 from 9am-done (Youth selling at the CYE livestock sale must attend one clean up date). Sign up through 4-H online May 1-July 1 at http://4h.missouri.edu/ showme4hwares/main Other Happenings Summers@Mizzou On July 14-18 MU will offer five different camps: Scrub-In to a Health Career, Dog Days of Summer, Network Forensics for Hacker Trackers, Robo Palooza, and Trulaske Business Summit. These camps are offered as residential or day camps. Camps are available for a wide range of ages beginning with 12 year olds; check the registration information for the age range of each camp.for registration and available scholarships, see http://4h.missouri.edu/programs/summers. Cherng Global Leadership Academy 10 day program offered July 16-25 through MU Honors College. For more information see attached flyer. Missouri S & T Missouri S & T will be hosting summer camps. See attached flyer for themes and times. Show Me Mizzou Day-On April 13 the campus will be open rain or shine from 10am-2pm for a family friendly open house with over 90 events for people with all ages. Families will be able to attend presentations, tour campus and see research in action. In the afternoon, they can experience the excitement of Mizzou Athletics by attending the Mizzou football spring game and a Mizzou baseball game. Registration will be open soon. Equine Opportunity: Show-Me Success Clinic-The Missouri Quarter Horse Association and Stephens College are hosting the Show-Me Success Clinic at Stephens College in Columbia, MO on April 5 th - 6 th. Watch AQHA World and Congress Champion trainer Tommy Sheets instruct riders and learn to score each class with AQHA judge Kendra Wei. 2019 Focus on Missouri Agriculture Photo Contest-Adult and child photo contest. MU Lego Robotics Camp-Learn about Science, Engineering, Life Sciences and Communication skills at the MU LEGO Robotics Camps by building and programming robots using the LEGO EV3's in fun, hands-on, real world problem solving activities. Children with different ability levels can start and gain experience in relating concepts of science, technology and engineering to everyday life! Callaway County kids are welcome to go to any camp offered. Transportation will only be provided for traditional camp the week of June 17-20.
