COASTAL SITE SURVEY Survey Guidelines: Complete one Coastal Litter survey form per site and one transect data form for each transect at the site. Record all coordinates in WGS84 datum only. Minimum of three transects and maximum of six per site. Minimum of one transect located within each major habitat type (transects proportional to habitat type). Transects located at least 50 m from site access point (ideally not located both sides of access points, unless different habitat types). Transect to include two meters into continuing backshore terrestrial vegetation. SURVEYOR DETAILS Organisation: Surveyor name: Contact number: Contact email: Access point location: GPS accuracy: Organisation responsible for survey. Name of chief surveyor. Contact number for surveyor. Contact email for surveyor. Latitude and longitude of access point where you enter the beach. Accuracy (meters) of GPS at time of reading. 7 (larger than page) Guidelines: Marine Debris Size Chart * This chart should be used as a guide to help estimate the size of marine debris during each beach transect (see transect sheet) * The squares below represent different size classes 1 = 0 1 cm 2 ; 2 = 1 2 cm 2 ; 3 = 2 4 cm 2 ; 4 = 4 8 cm 2 ; 5 = 8 16 cm 2 ; 6 = 16-21 cm 2 ; 7 = >22 cm 2 * To estimate size, the longest dimension of an item must fit wholly within a size class. 6 (whole of page) 5 4 3 2 1
