Lamar (0-0) Preview The Mean Green had a tough opening weekend, finishing the North Texas Invita onal with a 1-3 showing. There were several posi ves though, including Stacey Underwood twirling a one-hit shutout against UMass Lowell, securing North Texas first win. Lacy Gregory had a strong debut, hi ng.455 on the weekend. Schkade's Encore Kelli Schkade returns to the Mean Green after a breakout junior campaign, in which she slashed.393/.471/.713 with 70 hits, 16 doubles, 13 home runs and 42 RBI. She was selected First-Team All-Conference USA for her effort a season ago. In 2016, Schkade led C-USA in total bases (127) and slugging percentage (.713), while finishing third in runs scored (52). North Texas Storylines Additionally, Schkade set the program s hitting streak record after recording a hit in 19-consecutive games to begin the season. Her first hit was a solo blast against Arizona in Tucson, marking the sixth time a player has done that. Entering 2017, Schkade has a chance to solidify herself as one of the program greats, as she ranks in the top-five in batting average, on-base percentage and stolen bases in just two seasons in Denton. GCU heads to Waco as the top team in the tournament, owning a perfect 6-0 mark to begin the season. Baylor, who began the season na onally ranked, enters with a 3-2 mark a er the Hillenbrand Invita onal in Tucson, Arizona. Lamar dropped three games on opening weekend, and owns a 2-3 mark heading to Waco. The senior was named to C-USA s Preseason All-Conference Team, and is poised to have another monster year for the Mean Green. Staff Returns North Texas returns its entire starting rotation from a year ago. Seniors Jessica Elder and Stacey Underwood will lead the staff followed by sophomore Lauren Craine. Elder led the team in wins (14), innings (164), appearances (39) and complete games (11) last season, and will be the anchor atop the Mean Green rotation in 2017. Underwood, who ended 2016 strongly and earned herself Conference USA Pitcher of the Week honors on May 9, developed her secondary pitches this offseason and is confident she can replicate the success she found late a season ago. A former 20-game winner at the junior college level, Underwood looks to rival those numbers in her final year at North Texas.

By The Numbers 164 Jessica Elder led the Mean Green with 164 innings pitched last season, her first in Denton..455 Lacy Gregory leads the team with a.455 average. She went 5-for-11 over the weekend with one home run. 34 North Texas will play 34 games away from Lovelace Stadium in 2017. 7 The Mean Green will play seven NCAA tournament teams from last season: Baylor, Florida, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Florida A&M, Wichita State and Texas. 5 All five of North Texas true freshmen started last weekend. 68 Senior Stacey Underwood paced the pitching staff with 68 strikeouts in 2016. 11 This will be the 11th year North Texas has played its home games inside Lovelace Stadium, which opened prior to the 2007 season. 6 The North Texas softball team will have six new faces comprised of five freshmen and one junior. 15 All 15 players on North Texas' roster player last weekend. Craine should see a heavier workload this season after throwing 63.1 innings in her freshman campaign. A contact pitcher, Craine will rely on the stellar defense behind her to extend herself later into games. Tournament Teams Head coach Tracey Kee is a firm believer in building a program through a tough schedule and the 2017 slate epitomizes that belief. The Mean Green will face the last four WCWS Champions (Oklahoma 2013, 2016 and Florida 2014, 2015) in 2017, and has games scheduled versus seven NCAA tournament teams from a year ago: Baylor, Florida, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Florida A&M, Wichita State and Texas. Only the game against Oklahoma will be played in Denton. Underwood s Gem Senior righty Stacey Underwood bounced back on Sunday against UMass Lowell after suffering a loss on Saturday. She tossed a one-hit shutout, striking out seven batters and only issuing one walk. Her seven strikeouts fell one shy of matching her career high. Twinning Lindsay and Lacy Gregory (Kingwood, Texas) are identical twins, making them just the second set of twins to play for North Texas softball team. Both are listed as utility players, and should see significant time this season. The first set of twins was Jennifer and Jessica Lynn in 2009. Defense, Defense, Defense As a defense under Kee, North Texas has been ranked in top-50 in the nation in fielding percentage, peaking at No. 5 in 2015 with a.978 mark. Last season, North Texas defense fielded at a.973 clip, good for 11th in Division I. Lacy's Debut Lacy Gregory had a strong debut for the Mean Green, collecting five hits over the weekend. She hit.455 (5-for-11), the 12th-best mark in C-USA. She is tied for seventh with five RBI. 2 No Place Like Home The Mean Green have found success at home under Kee. Since 2014, North Texas is 41-37 (.526) at Lovelace including a program-best 18 home wins in 2014. On the road, the Mean Green are 22-41 (.350), a mark they seek to improve on in 2017. Limiting Strikeouts Offensively, the Mean Green had one of its most successful seasons in 2016, trying the program record in batting average (.279), set the program record in steals (81) and had the second-best on-base percentage (.353). However, the team struck out 262 times in 1,436 plate appearances, or once every 5.48 batters. Opponents struck out 146 times. The team struck out 24 times on opening weekend. Walk This Way In contrast to its 262 strikeouts, North Texas drew 162 walks on the season. Opponents walked 99 times a season ago. North Texas walked seven times to begin the season. Gregor-three Paces Offense Lacy Gregory led the offense with a.455 average, while Lindsay Gregory and Danielle Gregory hit.333 a piece, respectively. Those were the three best averages over the weekend. The trio tallied seven of North Texas 12 RBI as well. New Backstop Nicole Ochotnicki showcased her talent behind the dish this past weekend, throwing out one would-be basestealer and making several other fine plays in the four games. Get Ahead Early In 2016, North Texas was outscored 38-19 in the first inning, a -19 run differential. The team was outscored 4-1 in the first inning at the North Texas Invitational, a -3 differential. Stay Ahead Late Last season, the Mean Green were outscored 98 to 45 between the fifth and sixth innings, a -53 run differential. The team was 6-26 when trailing in those innings. The Mean Green were outscored 7-1 in the same situation over the opening weekend of competition. Finish The Inning North Texas staff struggled to finish innings last season,

Looking Forward Upon conclusion of the Ge erman Classic, the Mean Green will head to the East Coast for the Hampton Inn University Area Seahawk So ball Classic in Wilmington, North Carolina. North Texas will play Maryland-Bal more County and UNC-Wilmington for the first me ever. It owns a 1-0 record over Appalachian State. This will mark the first of four East Coast trips this season for the Mean Green. The team will also travel to Charlo e, Miami and Gainesville over the course of the season. Tracey Kee Head Coach Fourth Year East Carolina 90 The Kee File Hometown: Richmond, Virginia High School: Saint Gertrude (Va.) H.S. Alma Mater East Carolina University, 1990 (B.S.) East Carolina University, 1995 (M.E.) Tracey Kee enters her fourth season at North Texas as one of the winningest active coaches in NCAA Division I, boasting a career record of 757-451-1. Hired in August 2013, she became the fourth Mean Green softball head coach in the current era. In her three years, Kee has led the program to record heights and several program records and firsts. The 2016 team set a program record for steals in a season (81) and matched the highest batting average mark (.279). The 81 steals was good for an average of 1.47 a game, the 47th best mark in Division 1. In each of Kee s three seasons at North Texas, the team s defense has been ranked in the top-50 nationally, peaking at No. 5 in the 2015 season (.978). In 2014, Kee took the Mean Green to the most wins in the program s 12-year history with 31 victories. In 2015, North Texas upset No. 7 Baylor on the road in Waco, the highest ranked team that the Mean Green have defeated in program history and just their second-ever top-25 win. And then, in 2016, North Texas received votes in one of the national polls for the first time in school history after knocking off No. 21 Baylor two times in Waco. Under Kee, North Texas has had first-team All- Conference USA selections in three straight years and six all-conference selections overall in three years, including Kat Strunk, a two-time honoree and the 2014 C-USA Newcomer of the Year, the first specialty award in program history. In 2015, Taylor Schoblocher earned Amateur Softball Association/USA Softball National Player of the Week honors, the program s first national award. As a team, under Kee, the Mean Green has set several records, including the most conference wins (14), most runs scored (272), most RBI (242), highest batting average (.279), highest fielding percentage (.978) and fewest errors committed (30). In 2014, Ashley Kirk broke the single-season wins record with 22 victories and single-season strikeout record with 214. In 2015, Schoblocher set the singleseason marks for on-base percentage (.477) and slugging percentage (.833) and finished with the second-best single-season batting average (.389) and second-most home runs (17) and total bases (120). Off the field, North Texas softball graduates Lauren Poole and Madison Thompson were awarded the Jim Castaneda Postgraduate Scholarship in consecutive years, the first and second North Texas athletes to receive the honor in school s first two years of conference membership. Kee has also coached six NFCA All-America Scholar Athletes at North Texas (Sarah Barker, Mackenzie Grimes, Jami Schkade, Kelli Schkade, Shelbie Smith and Madison Thompson). Prior to North Texas, Kee compiled a 684-362 record in 16 seasons as the East Carolina head coach, and guided the Pirates to four NCAA Tournament appearances including three in her last five years. Kee and her staff were also named a National Fastpitch Coaches Association Mideast Region Coaching Staff of the Year honoree twice. She also captured nine league championships, with back-to-back C-USA Tournament titles in 2010 and 2011. From 2009 to 2011, no Conference USA program won more games than East Carolina s 125. ECU recorded 41 victories in 2011 to become only the fourth team in C-USA history to win 40 or more games in three-straight seasons. Kee s clubs have reached the 40-victory plateau 12 of her 16 seasons. Four times her teams have tallied 50 or more wins, including the 2000 group she directed to a schoolrecord 60 victories. Personally, she reached the 650- win threshold as a head coach in 2011. ECU won its first C-USA titles in 2010, claiming both the regular season and tournament titles before repeating as tournament champions in 2011. In just her first season as head coach in 1997, Kee s team posted a 49-24 record, and she was named Big South Coach of the Year. Two seasons later, in 1999, East Carolina won 50 games and made its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Under Kee s tutelage, many players have earned allconference and all-region honors. During her time in the Big South, she led 11 all-conference players, two Rookie of the Year selections, the league s tournament MVP, Denise Reagan, in 1999 and the two-time league player-of-the-year in Polonius (1998 and 1999). The accolades continued in Conference USA as Kee s players received 12 first-team selections and 15 second-team honors. Additionally, 14 student-athletes have been named to the all-rookie team with two named the league s freshman of the year. In 2009, Kee led Toni Paisley to Conference USA Female Athlete of the Year honors, becoming just the second softball selection in league history. Kee also helped Paisley to three-straight C-USA Pitcher of the Year awards from 2009-11 and to Louisville Slugger/ NFCA Third-Team All-America honors in 2010. Six players have also received all-region recognition under Kee since joining C-USA. Kee played her high school ball at Saint Gertrude in Richmond, Va., from 1983-86 before a stellar career for East Carolina from 1987-1990. In 2009, she was inducted into the St. Gertrude Athletic Hall of Fame. In 2014, she was inducted into the Central Virginia ASA Hall of Fame. She graduated from ECU in May 1990 with a bachelor s degree in physical education and, in 1995, earned her master s degree from ECU in exercise and sport science with a concentration in physical education. 4 Coaching Career Overall Record: 757-451-1 (19 Years) Record At North Texas: 73-89 (Fourth Year) Coaching Experience 2013-present: University of North Texas, Head Coach 1997-2012: East Carolina University, Head Coach 1991-96: East Carolina University, Assistant Coach Championships Won 1997 - Big South Regular Season 1998 - Big South Regular Season 1999 - Big South Regular Season Big South Tournament 2000 - East Coast Athletic Conference Tournament 2001 - East Coast Athletic Conference Tournament 2010 - Conference USA Regular Season Conference USA Tournament 2011 - Conference USA Tournament Coaching Awards 2010 & 2011- NCAA Mideast Coaching Staff of the Year 2005, 2009 & 2010 - Conference USA Coach of the Year 1997 - Big South Conference Coach of the Year Collegiate Experience 1987-1990: East Carolina * Four-year starter at catcher or third base, two-time captain, recipient of the Texas Gulf Outstanding Female Scholar-Athlete Award Accolades * Inducted into the Saint Gertrude High School Athletic Hall of Fame in Richmond, Virgina * Inducted into into the Central Virginia ASA Hall of Fame * Won three USSSA All-World titles in slow-pitch
