First draw is set for 4 p.m. at Unitas Stadium. The game will be streamed live on Lax Sports Network for a nominal fee and live stats are available at caastats.com. JMU had the week off last week, but the last time out on April 23, it suffered a 15-12 setback at Delaware for its lone CAA loss. UD has won two straight with a most recent win, 16-9, at Drexel last Saturday to clinch the fourth and final seed for the CAA Championship. The 2017 season is presented by O Neill s Grill. BREAKING DOWN THE SERIES This is the 43rd meeting all-time between the Dukes and Blue Hens with JMU leading 25-17. JMU holds a 4-0 record against UDel on neutral ground, all of which have occurred at the CAA Championship. The Dukes are 5-1 all-time against the Hens at the CAA tournament, with the lone defeat coming back in 1995 at home. JMU has ousted UD in its previous two CAA Championship appearances, claiming a 13-9 win in Williamsburg in 2014 and earning a 10-7 triumph at Delaware in 2015. Last time the teams met, the Blue Hens won 15-12 to hand the Dukes their sole CAA defeat for the second straight season. UD never trailed, as Coley Ricci had a career-high five goals. Becky Gohsler tallied four goals and two assists, and Megan Santoleri added four scores. Delaware used a 5-0 run over 5:27 to mount a 10-4 first-half lead and led by as many as eight, at 13-5, in the second half. Four Dukes tallied multi-goal games, led by Margaret Tucker Fogarty s three goals. HISTORY IN CAA TOURNEY JMU is making its 23rd appearance in the CAA Championship since joining the league in 1992. The Dukes are 33-13 (.717) all-time in the CAA postseason, claiming nine tournament titles, with the most recent coming in 2015 when Delaware hosted. JMU has been either the No. 1 or No. 2 seed now in each of the last eight seasons, including one seeds in 2010, 2016 and 2017. The program holds a record of 11-3 when holding the No. 1 seed since the formation of the conference. The Dukes have advanced to the title game in all six of their seven previous appearances as No. 1. JMU is looking to make its fourth straight berth in the CAA championship game and 16th all-time. WARDEN, KLAES-BAWCOMBE REEL IN CAA MAJOR AWARDS For the second straight season, JMU brings home the CAA s top player and coach of the year accolades, as Haley Warden was voted Player of the Year, and Shelley Klaes-Bawcombe was named Coach of the Year. JMU has now won CAA Player of the Year 13 times and in five of the past six seasons, while Klaes- Bawcombe earned her fourth CAA Coach of the Year nod, including her third as coach at JMU. Warden scored 22 goals, to go with seven assists, but her play in the midfield and defensive third makes her the complete player. She led the Dukes with 56 draw controls, 47 ground balls and 40 caused turnovers, ranking in the CAA s top three in all hustle categories. She is also third in JMU single-season history in draw controls and tied for 14th in ground balls. Klaes-Bawcombe earned her fourth career CAA Coach of the Year award, and third at JMU. She was first named the CAA s top coach in 2005 at Hofstra, and has earned the laurel in 2010, 2016 and 2017 while at the helm of the Dukes. She guided JMU to JMU s sixth outright CAA regular-season title and the program s 11th overall regular-season crown since the league s formation in 1992. SEVEN DUKES ON ALL-CAA TEAMS JMU had seven individual garner All-CAA accolades, led by three First Team members. Earning First Team All-CAA honors were attacker Kristen Gaudian and midfielders Elena Romesburg and Haley Warden. Joining the trio on the Second Team were attacker Katie Kerrigan and defender Rebecca Tooker. Emma Johnson and Maddie McDaniel were also named to the All-Rookie Team. All seven players will return in 2017 and this is the sixth straight season JMU has had at least three players named First Team All-CAA. CAA ONCE AGAIN PREMIER IN RPI James Madison s body of work this season has provided for a top-20 RPI ranking, as it came in at No. 16 in this week s ranking. JMU is one of three CAA schools to hold a top- 20 ranking, while all four CAA tournament teams rank within the top 25. Towson is 15th, Elon is 17th and UDel is 25th. The CAA as a whole ranks fourth in conference RPI as the seven-team league averages a ranking of 33.71, which is close to the Ivy League, which is third with an average ranking of 30.25. The ACC leads the nation with a 16.5 average RPI ranking from top to bottom, while the Big Ten is second at 25.86. The Dukes consistently play a top-tier schedule, which includes games against RPI No. 1 North Carolina, No. 2 Maryland and No. 3 Penn State. JMU has a pair of top-20 RPI wins against Elon and Towson. DUKES STRONG COMING OFF BREAK JMU was the only CAA team to not play during the final week of the regular season, but the elongated break hasn t deterred the Dukes from capturing a win off a bye. In the previous three seasons (2014-16), JMU is 4-0 in its first game coming off a bye.
