Moose Prints November 2014 Northglenn Moose Lodge 2166 & WOTM Chapter 644 303-457-3391 Strong Community Service Program Builds Awareness and Showcases Value At various points through the year, any number of Moose members are going to have an idea for a community service project that their Lodge or Chapter can organize. When those moments happen, the next step is to attend a Lodge or Chapter meeting and present that idea, said Moose International Director of Activities Shawn Baile. Under normal circumstances, a member would present his or her idea to the Board of Officers for consideration, Baile said. Ideally, if the Board of Officers feels it s a viable idea then this is something that would be passed to the Lodge s Heart of the Community Committee. Baile said not every idea results in a community service event. However, he said receptiveness to members suggestions is important. People are going to have ideas, he said. You don t want to have your mind made up before it s presented that it s not going to work or that you don t want to hear about it. Every idea is worth being heard. Baile said the vitality of a Lodge operation often rests on the strength of its commitment to being the Heart of the Community. Having a strong Community Service program can in no way hurt your Lodge, Baile said. If your Lodge is doing things for the community and it s visible, then it s all the more attractive to non-members. To that end, Baile said it s important to loudly proclaim the fact that the Moose is the sponsoring organization of the event when it takes place. It can be something as simple as wearing a Moose hat or jacket or wearing Moose T-shirts for a highway cleanup, Baile said. That s free advertising. People will then start to associate a Moose Lodge with doing good works in the community. This is how people become aware of your organization. The most important thing, Baile said, is you can t be afraid to try to do things. Volunteering Our Lodge is in desperate need of more volunteers! This is what makes the Moose Fraternity strong and builds fellowship. Everything that is done at the Lodge takes time and man power and with this the few that volunteer on a regular basis to bring you the activities, dinners and more are on burn-out! We are not asking you to volunteer every night, but even if you just walk in and say one Friday night What can I do to help? We will be happy to have you. Most of the time the work goes faster when there are more people to help out. Please think about why you joined and come in and join the team! Thank you! A Note from the Senior Regent Dear Co-Workers Happy Thanksgiving!! Another successful month! I still need you to come to one of our meetings! I would really like your input and ideas. The meetings are the first and third Wednesday of each month. You don t have to come to both; you can come to one or the other. They last about an hour and start at 7pm. I would really like to see all of you! Our birthday dinner was a huge success! We had a piñata, a game (kind of like musical chairs) and a scavenger hunt. If you didn t come you missed out on a great time. All who were there thank you for coming! A huge Thank You to Denise and Shirley for organizing, cooking calzones all day, the salad and pulling it off! A Big Kudos to all the hostesses at the birthday dinner and their desserts they provided to their guests: Ashley for January & February awesome table decoration. Galadriel for the March table awesome St. Patty s Day decorations. Maureen Mo for all her Easter decorations. Ella for the May table, she had the cutest cupcakes for the spring theme, great job Ella! Judy for the beautiful June table, the wedding theme was simple, but pretty. Mouse for the July table, the 4 th of July theme was great! Virginia for the August table, the Luau theme for the end of summer was fun. Diane for the September table with the back to school theme. Thank you to Jo Michaud for the great apple ideas! Betty for the October table the Halloween decorations were awesome! Nancy for the November table, the Thanksgiving and fall theme came together beautifully. Jo for the December table, your Christmas theme was absolutely gorgeous! Thank You Ladies!! The kids Halloween Party was a fun time and we had a great turnout! Thank you to Vicki & her friend, Carla, Carol, Mo, Ashley and Ranee. Thank you to Cruz for the awesome coffin and your great costume! Upcoming Events This Month: Co-Worker of the Month is Nancy Brethour, I want to thank you for all your kindness and support you have shown me since I became a member. November 14 th WOTM Pot Roast Dinner Night - $12 We Need Volunteers Ladies!! Thanksgiving Baskets If you would like to bring something for the baskets it would be greatly appreciated! Know someone in need? Please let the Lodge Officers know. Respectfully Yours, Diane Simpson Senior Regent We are doing a drive for the homeless again. Please bring hygiene products to the Lodge and drop them in the box in the lobby. Also we are collecting box tops and labels for education. In addition to all of this, save your chip bags (any size, any kind) and bring those in as well, they get recycled and the money goes to Mooseheart. Thanks! Nancy Brethour RECIPES WANTED!!! After being a member of Northglenn WOTM for more than 40 years, I have attended many Pot Luck Dinners. We have many great cooks in our chapter. I have put together a committee to make a cookbook. This cookbook will be dedicated to all past Senior Regents. We need all our members to submit their favorite recipes. The goal is to have it ready for Christmas. Please help us make this a great cookbook, send recipes to: Mail: Judy Kennedy 11424 Emerson St, Northglenn, CO 80233 or WOTM Northglenn Chapter 644 PO Box 33954, Northglenn, CO 80233 or email Carol Bjorklund at: bjork11951@aol.com put WOTM recipe in subject line. Looking forward to hearing from everyone. Thank you - Judy Kennedy. Are your dues current? Remember to check your card for renewal date! You can pay online or at the lodge.

Administrators Message Another month has come and gone. Another fun time was had by all who went to Black Hawk on the bus trip. Maybe one day we will all come home rich! Do you think we go to Black Hawk enough, or should we go every other month? If you would like to go more often, please let me know. Just remember we need forty people to keep our rate at $15. The Survivor's dinner for the American Cancer Society had to be cancelled due to lack of participation, on that note we will have sign-up sheets at the bar for all events. If no one wants to sign-up we will cancel at least a week before so the lodge does not have to purchase food or anything else for that event. To Denise and Judi, get well, as we need your smiling faces in the lodge. The kids Halloween party had a very nice turn-out. Thanks to all who attended and helped. The W.O.T.M. did another great job, Thank You. Let s hope the adult party has as much participation. As some of you may have heard the lodge is looking for an Administrator. If you think you have what it takes please bring in your resume. Any officer (if you can find one), will be happy to take your information. The first week of November is member retention week, so look for a lot of happenings around the lodge. A double Texas Hold em tournament was held here and at the Greeley lodge. Very happy to report that of the six winners, four were from our lodge. Way to go poker players! The winners received their entry fee and four nights at the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas. The deadline for entering is December 8th, so if you re thinking about going time is running out. Please have a safe and happy holiday, Happy Thanksgiving! Thanks again to all; I hope to see you around the Lodge! Until Next Month, Dave Potvin Administrator For Membership Retention Week and the month of November we will be giving away a New Color TV and a turkey for Sponsoring a New Member in November! You will be entered into a drawing that will be held at the end of the month.
