4-H Enrollment 4-H Enrollment started August 15th!!! All enrollment is done via 4-H Connect. You can access 4-H Connect by going to our 4-H website at http://agrilife.org/bell4h/ and clicking on the 4-H Connect icon. To maintain the level of programming and opportunities in the Texas 4-H and Youth Development Program, an annual participant fee is implemented for each 4-H member (excluding Clover Kids). The participant fee is now $25 as of November 1st. For instructions on how to enroll, please visit: http://agrilife.org/bell4h/4-henrollment-guidelines/4-h-enrollment-information/ All volunteers who enroll will be charged $5.00 each volunteer. This covers your screening for the year. All volunteers will have to enroll each year. County Council & Ambassadors County Council Meeting The next County Council Meeting will take place on Tuesday, November 15th at the CEO. This meeting will start at 6:30 p.m. The program will cover the 4-H Recordbooks and the community service project will be collecting items for the local animal shelters. All council delegates from the 4-H Clubs are strongly encouraged to attend all council meetings! Future Council Meeting Dates: January 24, March 28, May 8 Council/Ambassador Christmas Party The County Council Officer and Ambassador Christmas party is scheduled for Tuesday, December 20th at the CEO. This will be a Chinese gift exchange with the limit of $10 per gift. Time is from 1:00 3:00 p.m. 4-H Club Managers BCYF Food Container Pick Up Attention Club Managers! You can start picking up food containers on January 3rd at the CEO for your participants competing in the 2017 BCYF Food Division. Chisolm Trail Christmas Ball The Chisolm Trail Christmas Ball (formerly known as the Cowboy Christmas Ball) will be held on Saturday, December 10th at the Bell County Expo Center. If you are interested in purchasing tickets, contact Pam Reavis. All proceeds from the Ball will benefit the Bell County Youth Fair & Livestock Show and PRCA Rodeo Scholarship Fund. This is given out every year to high achieving Bell County youth as they attend and maintain the high standards of education at their college/university of choice. Heavy appetizers will be served and guests are encouraged to dress in formal western wear to keep in tradition and keep with the atmosphere. A live auction will also be held during the evening. We will need 4-H Ambassadors to work this event. Upcoming Events County Wide Community Service Project On Saturday, November 12, 2016 starting at 10 a.m., Bell County 4-H will be partnering with the City of Nolanville to plant trees at their new city park. This community service project was voted on by the County Council and Ambassadors but everyone is invited to come help! Sheryl Raley will be out for her wedding so Evelyn Steglich will be the point of contact on the 12th. FCS Project News Food and Nutrition Quiz Bowl Food and Nutrition Quiz Bowl: is a quiz game that tests teams of 3-4 on their knowledge of food, nutrition, diseases, regulations, etc. Up against the clock, they buzz in to answer a question. Teams advance in a tournament-system bracket to win the competition. Practices will be held at the First Baptist Church 702 House in Belton, 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. November 4, 14, 282 December 5,12,30 January 2, 9, 20, 23, 30 February 13, 20, 27 Consumer Decision Making Learn how to compare prices, test for quality and make purchases based on facts and research. This project improves your money management skills, smart purchasing skills, and decision-making skills. Practices will be held at the First Baptist Church 702 House in Belton, 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. on the following days: November 4, 14, 28 December 5,12,30 January 2, 9, 20, 23, 30 February 13, 20, 27 Bell County Fashion Show & Trashion Show & Storyboard & Duds for Dazzle March 7, 2017 will be the Bell County contest for all 4 fashion contests. FCS Project News Food Challenge Practices If you are one of the teams advancing to the District 8 Food Challenge, you will still be practicing! Practices will be held at the First Baptist Church, 702 House in Belton. These practices will be limited to 1 hour starting at 5:00 p.m.! November 2, 11, 16, 30 December 2 Contact Barbara Wood for more information. ~District 8 Food Show/Food Challenge Contest~ For those families competing in the District 8 Food Challenge and Food Show on Wednesday, December 7th, we need you to log on to your 4-H Connect profile and register your child in the appropriate contest. You will need to know who is all on your Food Challenge team and the team name BEFORE you try to register online. You must have this completed by November 14, 2016. Be checking your emails for more information on arrival and check in times for that day. Good luck to all Bell County 4-H members competing! Clothing & Textiles Workshop Beginner Sewing Workshop! Learn to make a travel tissue cover and felt envelope. WHEN: November 28th WHERE: CEO TIME: 6:00 7:30 p.m. RSVP to the CEO by November 23rd. You will need to bring: 2 cotton fabrics (scraps and fat quarters are perfect) 1 square of felt Sewing supplies: scissors, matching thread Flan Workshop When: Saturday, December 3, 2016 Where: Ronald McDonald House @ 10:00 a.m. RSVP by December 1st to the CEO Flan is a custard desert with a sweet caramel top layer. Come out and learn how to make flan on December 3 at 10:00 a.m. at the Ronald McDonald House in Temple. Cost to attend this workshop is a variety pack of individual cereal packages per attendee to be left for the Ronald McDonald House pantry. RSVP to the County Extension Office by December 1. Livestock Project News ~~ Spring 2015 Major Show Sign Up ~~ WHEN: November 7 and November 8, 2016 at the CEO TIME: 4-7 PM Entry forms for all 2017 Spring Major shows (Fort Worth, San Angelo. San Antonio, Houston, Austin) will be available for pick-up from Whitney at the CEO or on the Bell County 4-H website agrilife.org/bell4h. All completed forms and payment must be turned in to the extension office no later than 7:00 PM on November 8, 2016. Checks or exact change only will be accepted, NO CREDIT CARDS! Please know your child s birthdate, social security number and Quality Counts number when attending Major Show Entry night or turning in entry forms. The 24th Annual Holiday Classic Beef, Lamp, Goat & Swine Clinic and Prospect Show November 5-6, 2016 @ Bell County Expo Center, Belton, TX NO ENTRY FEES Open to all interested youth in 4-H and FFA. Youth must attend Saturday clinics to participate in Sunday showmanship and prospect shows. The Holiday Classic Clinics and Prospect Shows are intended to provide an educational opportunity for new families (4-H & FFA) participating in the livestock project area. The main purpose is to teach the basic principles of livestock management as they relate to facility maintenance, selection, nutrition, animal health, handling, showmanship, and transportation. Contact the CEO for more information. Bell County Youth Fair Bell County Youth Fair Below are the new changes regarding BCYF. Please make sure you have a sign in sheet at each meeting and announce to all members to sign in before, during, and after the meeting. The BCYF has a website in which everything will be posted including the new fair book, entry forms, superintendent s names and phone numbers, score sheets, and other information: http://agrilife.org/ bellctyyouthfair/ All 4-H members MUST be enrolled by December 1, 2016 to participate in the BCYF. You MUST attend 2 meetings to participate in the BCYF. You MUST sign in on the sign in sheets for it to count. 2 meetings will be allowed from August 1, 2016 to December 31, 2016 this year. No meetings will be allowed in January to use for the 2 meeting rule. BCYF Photography Upload Workshop WHEN: Thursday, December 15th WHERE: CEO TIME: 6:00 p.m. BCYF Entries are due by December 1st Theme: For 2017 the theme is Reflections. The goal of this workshop is to explain and answer any questions any 4-H, FFA or FCCLA member has about uploading their photos or if they have questions about the entry categories.
