Lockwood Family Papers ST-2b, bay 2 - Accessions 2016.384-387 Acquisition: The Lockwood Family Papers were received by the Norwalk Public Library from the Norwalk Museum during the restructuring of the Museum in 2013. Access: There are no restrictions to items in these collections. Permission to Publish: Requests for permission to publish from the collection should be made to the Norwalk History Room. Copyright: Norwalk Public Library does not hold the copyright on the materials in the collection. Scope and content note: Archival collections are housed in 25 manuscript boxes. Photographic materials, 9 albums, prints in file cabinets and in OV boxes, are accessioned and described separately. Introduction This Norwalk Lockwood family descends from Capt. Eliphalet Lockwood, assistant commissary officer in the Revolutionary War, and his wife Susannah St. John, through their sons William and Buckingham St. John Lockwood. They were merchants, landowners and bankers. Among the allied families were Hawley, Selleck and St. John, Ayres and Lawrence. They are distant cousins of LeGrand Lockwood who built the palatial home now preserved as the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum. The collection consists primarily of correspondence and documents, along with numerous photographs stored separately. Additional donations by Manice DeForest Lockwood Jr. and his cousin Julia B. Lockwood are housed at the Norwalk Historical Society Museum, in a building built and donated to Norwalk by these cousins.
