JOHNSON COLISEUM - 7,203) STORYLINES The Ladyjacks are set for just their second game at the end a three-week span on Wednesday night. Since traveling to play TCU on Dec. 9, SFA has played just one time beating Rice at home on Dec. 19. The 59-45 victory leveled the Jacks record to.500, giving the squad the chance to head into SLC action with a record at or above.500 for the third consecutive season. Wednesday night s matchup will be just the second meeting all-time between the two programs. The Ladyjacks dominated the Lions two seasons ago, winning by a final margin of 101-59 in Nacogdoches on Dec. 30, 2013. A freshman at the time, Taylor Ross led all scorers with 21 points on 6-for-12 shooting. Five Ladyjacks scored in double figures overall as SFA surpassed the century mark for the first time in 13 years. The Ladyjacks have taken care of business against non-division I programs so far this season, beating UT-Tyler (DIII) 91-69 in the season opener on Nov. 13 and routing LSU- Shreveport (NAIA) 94-39 on Nov. 24. The average margin of victory between the two contests was +38.5 points. SFA s 55-point punishment of LSU-S is the largest margin of victory for the Jacks since the 1999 season when SFA beat Centenary 99-40. The Lions (DII) will be the third non-di school to step into William R. Johnson Coliseum this year. The Lions have won two straight games and three of their last four entering Wednesday s showdown. With a record of 6-5, Commerce beat East Central 61-39 on Dec. 16 and Henderson State 73-61 on Dec. 19 before falling to Texas State 80-60 on Dec. 13. No player on the team currently averages double-digit points, but Shomari Harris (9.7 ppg), Khala Riley (9.3 ppg), Amari Jones (9.2 ppg) and Gabby Scott (9.1 ppg) have all been effective scoring the basketball. Nearly averaging a double-double, Jones is collecting a team-high 9.6 rebounds a night. Austin Maggie Proffitt Jr./G Central Arkansas Jayln Johnson Sr./G McNeese Brianna Mullins Jr./G Central Arkansas Suzzy Dimba Jr./F Abilene Christian LAST TIME OUT: Senior guard Taylor Schippers notched a season-high 19 points and sophomore forward Stevi Parker added 14 to help SFA race past Rice, 59-45, on Dec. 19 in William R. Johnson Coliseum. Schippers had a well-rounded night with five steals and three assists while Parker continued to play well on both ends of the court with 14 points, seven rebounds and three takeaways. The Ladyjacks outscored the Owls 39-20 over the final 20 minutes to claim the 14-point victory. The disparity was a result of a 53.8 percent effort from the floor while limiting Rice to just 26.3 percent shooting in the second half. SCORING WITH EASE: Stevi Parker has scored the basketball at an efficient rate over the last two games. After going a perfect 4-for-4 from the field against TCU on Dec. 9, Parker converted six of eight attempts from the floor against Rice. She compiled an impressive 83.3 percent (10-for-12) shooting percentage between the two contests overall while averaging 12.5 ppg during the span. BALANCED ATTACK: Through the first 10 games of the season, four Ladyjacks are averaging at least 9.8 points per game. Led by Taylor Ross 16.0 ppg, Taylor Schippers (10.9 ppg), Brentney Branch (10.4 ppg) and Stevi Parker (9.8 ppg) have consistently posted about 10 points a night. The four players are currently making up 71.4 percent of SFA s total scoring. FAST START FOR ROSS: Junior guard Taylor Ross got off to a fast start to the 2015-16 season, scoring at least 19 points in each of her first four games, including a career-high 28 points against SIUE in her first game of the year at UMKC. In her last four games, Ross is scoring at a slightly lower rate (9.8 ppg) but has still tallied at least 10 points in seven of eight games played. She is averaging 16.0 points per game overall on the season the fifth best mark in the Southland Conference. STEADY SCHIPP: Senior guard Taylor Schippers has been consistent for the Ladyjacks all year in her first season in the purple and white. She has scored in double figures in six of 10 games and recorded an assist in every contest. She is averaging a steady 10.9 ppg on the year and leads the team with 35 assists in 10 games. STEVI IN CHARGE: Sophomore forward Stevi Parker leads the team with 22 charges taken so far in 2015-16. She had a big week at the UNT Tournament from Dec. 4-5, taking five charges on Friday night against IUPUI and adding three more on Saturday against Weber State. She is chasing 36 for the season a total she set at Tulsa her freshman year. HOT SHOOTERS: SFA has shot the ball well over the first 10 games of the year. The Jacks 42.1 field goal percentage is tops in the SLC and their three-point field goal percentage of 37.1 percent is the best in the league and 27th-best in the country. Junior guard Brentney Branch leads the team from distance with a 46.7 percent make rate (21st in the nation). It is the best mark in the SLC as well. NO PLACE LIKE HOME: The Ladyjacks have proven that William R. Johnson Coliseum is one of the toughest women s basketball venues to play in for visitors. Dating back to the beginning of last year, SFA is 18-2 at home. With a narrow loss against UTA on Dec. 1, SFA s 17-game home winning streak was snapped. It was the seventh-longest active home winning streak in the nation before the game. Nacogdoches is currently the 16th toughest city to play in, in all of division one women s college basketball. The Ladyjacks boast a 437-118 record at home since beginning play in 1972. TOURNAMENT CHAMPS: The Ladyjacks had a successful trip to the midwest over the Thanksgiving break, claiming the UMKC Plaza Lights Classic tournament title in Kansas City with a 2-0 record. SFA first beat SIUE, 82-74, behind 28 second half points from Taylor Ross and a monster 20-point, 11-rebound double-double from Stevi Parker. The next day on Nov. 28, the Jacks secured the perfect week with a 71-62 win over Indiana State. Ross once again had a big game with 20 points and Brentney Branch added 19 points with a 5-for-7 shooting night from three-point range. NATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT: Junior guard Taylor Ross was SFA s star during the week of Nov. 23, scoring at least 20 points in all three contests for the team. She averaged 23.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.3 steals during the stint and picked up several prestigious awards as a result. She was tabbed the National Mid- Major Player of the Week by College Sports Madness and secured Southland Conference Player of the Week honors on Nov. 30 for her recent success on the hardwood. HISTORIC BLOWOUT: The Ladyjacks pulled off one of the most lopsided wins in program history after routing LSU-Shreveport 94-39 on Nov. 24 inside William R. Johnson Coliseum. The 55-point victory is the largest margin in an SFA win since 1999 when the Ladyjacks beat Centenary, 99-40. 2014-15 Southland Conference Champions (16-2) 2014-15 WNIT First Round SOUTHLAND DOMINANCE: The Ladyjacks will go for a third consecutive Southland Conference regular season title in 2016 after winning the league championship each of the last two seasons. Already with a league-best 17 regular season crowns, a third straight title in 2016 would make SFA the first team in the league to three-peat since the Ladyjacks accomplished the feat from 2000-02. After losing in the first round of the WNIT to TCU last March, SFA will look to take the next step this season by making its first NCAA Tournament since 2006. SFA TABBED 2ND/3RD IN SLC PRESEASON POLLS: Coming off a 2014-15 campaign that ended with the Ladyjacks hoisting the program s 17th regular season Southland Conference title, SFA once again has high expectations this season. In preseason polls conducted by the league s sports information directors and coaches, SFA was tabbed second and third, respectfully. Lamar was voted as the favorite by each group. @SFA_Athletics/@SFA_WBB #AxeEm 3

Austin Director of Athletics Robert Hill announced the hiring of Mark Kellogg as the Ladyjacks new head women s basketball coach on May 11 prior to the 2015-16 season. Kellogg brings a tradition of winning to Nacogdoches as he has compiled a 250-65 (.794) record in 10 seasons as a head coach, including a 154-35 (.815) record in conference games and a 16-7 (.700) mark in NCAA tournament games. A four-time WBCA Regional Coach of the Year, Kellogg has guided his programs to six conference championships and seven NCAA tournament appearances and currently ranks as the fourth-winningest active coach at the Division II level. Needless to say, we are very excited to have Mark join us, said Hill. There is no doubt he is one of the best young coaches in the nation and his record speaks for itself. Mark has been a winner everywhere he has coached and also has great Texas recruiting ties, which was something we were looking for in a head coach. He inherits a good program but I truly believe he will elevate our women s basketball program. He and his family will also be a great addition to our SFA family as well as the Nacogdoches community. Kellogg comes to SFA from West Texas A&M where he spent two seasons as head coach, leading the Lady Buffs to a 62-6 record and a pair of appearances in the NCAA Division II Elite Eight as well as top-10 finishes. In 2013-14, Kellogg guided West Texas to a 32-3 record and a national runner-up showing, falling to Bentley in the NCAA championship game, ending the season ranked second nationally. This past season, the Lady Buffs went 30-3, advancing to the Elite Eight and were ranked sixth in the final postseason polls, earning Kellogg CaptainU National Coach of the Year honors. During his time in Canyon, Kellogg led West Texas to back-to-back 30-win seasons for the first time in program history as the Lady Buffs led the nation in field goal percentage both years. The 2013-14 Lone Star Conference Coach of the Year, Kellogg guided WT to back-to-back LSC regular season and tournament titles, going 30-2 in conference play. Prior to his time in Canyon, Kellogg spent one season at Northwest Missouri State, leading the Bearcats to a 15-13 record in 2012-13, a nine-win improvement from the previous season. Picked to finish 15th in the MIAA standings, the Bearcats finished eighth, advancing to the quarterfinals of the MIAA tournament. Kellogg earned his first head coaching position at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado, where he compiled a 173-46 (.790) record in seven seasons. The Skyhawks finished no worse than third in the RMAC during his time in Durango, capturing four regular season and two conference tournament titles. He led Fort Lewis to five-straight NCAA tournament appearances from 2007-08 to 2011-12, highlighted by a national runner-up finish in 2009-10 on the heels of a 35-4 season. A three-time RMAC Coach of the Year, Kellogg is the Skyhawks all-time leader in victories (173), conference victories (116), overall winning percentage (.790) and conference winning percentage (.834). He was named the WBCA Regional Coach of the Year in 2010 and 2011. In addition to his successes on the court, Kellogg has placed a major emphasis on success in the classroom as well. His teams were ranked among the WBCA Academic-Top 25 for five-straight seasons, including ranking first nationally in 2011 with a team GPA of 3.72. 37 of his players have earned Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District honors with a pair of Academic All-Americans. Before taking the helm at Fort Lewis, Kellogg spent four seasons as an assistant coach at Montana State from 2001-05. During his time in Bozeman, he helped lead the Bobcats to the Big Sky Championship in 2001-02 and 2002-03 as MSU compiled a 23-game home winning streak, third behind only Connecticut and Stanford during that span. Kellogg began his coaching career at West Texas A&M, spending two seasons as an assistant on the Buff men s team from 1998-2000. West Texas posted a 43-14 record during his two seasons on staff, winning the LSC title and advancing to the NCAA tournament in 1998-99. A native of Richardson, Texas, Kellogg earned two bachelor s degrees in communication arts and physical education from Austin College in 1998. He then earned his master s degree in sport and exercise science from West Texas A&M in 2000. Kellogg and his wife, Trisha, have two children an eight-year-old son, Camden, and a six-year-old daughter, Kayli. @SFA_Athletics/@SFA_WBB #AxeEm
