If you can make a difference in the life of just one child, then Whitey s memory will be fulfilled. - Harry Kalas The Richie Ashburn Baseball Foundation was founded in 1998 by Rich Ashburn Jr., Ruben Amaro Jr., and Rick Mellor. The organization s mission was to carry on Richie s dream by offering children in the Philadelphia area the opportunity to learn the game of baseball. One of the Foundation s most ardent supporters was Harry Kalas, Richie s best friend and longtime broadcast partner. After Harry s passing, the Executive Board, with the blessing of the Ashburn and Kalas families, voted to change the Foundation s name in order to acknowledge the strong bond between the two men and to honor both of their legacies. Although our name has changed, our mission remains the same. As the Richie Ashburn-Harry Kalas Foundation we will continue to provide free baseball camps for over 1,000 Philadelphia area children each summer and fund academic grants to local high schools and colleges. Please join us at Morton s Steakhouse on May 2, 2011 for cocktails and dinner. Your contribution to this cause will enrich the lives of children throughout the Philadelphia region while honoring the memories of both Whitey and Harry.
