FROM YOUR COUNCIL ON AGING The open enrollment for 2018 Medicare D and Advantage plans is October 15 th through December 7 th. This is important to ALL Medicare beneficiaries, so please take note and share with others. The Medicare D (prescription) and Advantage plans change every year and for many of us, our personal health situations have changed since signing up for our current coverage. Yes, the plan you have now may still be the best option for you in 2018, but this is not something you want to just assume is the case. One of the services provided to you by your Council is reviewing your current plan and your options for 2018 and explaining the impact of each to you and your checkbook so you can make the best decision for your individual situation. Benefits Specialist Susan Allen and Beavercreek Care Coordinator Karen Burkhardt will be available throughout the open enrollment period, along with other staff and volunteers. Our team is trained by the Ohio Department of Insurance through their Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program and we are not affiliated with any insurance company or product. Our objective is to make sure you have all of the information available so you can make the best decision for your unique situation. For many, staying with the same Medicare D or Advantage plan will make sense, but for others, a different plan may be worth considering. For many beneficiaries with whom we have previously worked, it may only take a phone call or two to identify and share your options. You can also have your options reviewed at the October 25 th Medicare Check-Up & Wellness Event. MEDICARE CHECK-UP & WELLNESS EVENT The Council s Medicare Check-Up & Wellness Event is Wednesday, October 25 th from 11am to 6pm at the Xenia Community Center (1265 W. Second Street). This event is free and open to all seniors. Council team members and volunteers will be available to meet with Medicare beneficiaries to review options and make any changes, as appropriate. From 11am to 4pm, we will have a variety of displays and wellness checks set-up in the gym, secure shredding bins from Greene Inc. will be on-site for you to drop off old papers and records, and of course there will be refreshments and door prizes. Flyers are available at the Center and on the Council s Facebook Page and website info@gccoa.org. LUNCH N LEARN Thank you to those who came out for the September Lunch n Learn with Ashley Steveley. She shared a great deal of information to help us ALL do what we can to reduce our risk of falls. There will not be a Lunch n Learn in October, but we hope to see you at the Center s October 27 th Health Fair. The next Lunch n Learn is November 17 th. BEAVERCREEK SATELLITE OFFICE: Our Beavercreek space (3095 Dayton-Xenia Rd) is open every Tuesday from 8:30am to 5pm. The October Brain Fitness afternoons are the 10 th and 24 th from 2 to 4pm. Please join us as we enjoy some brain-stretching games with a great group of people! And the Legal Chat with attorney Dave Cusack is Thursday, October 19 th from 2:30pm to 3:30pm. Please contact the Council at 376-5486 or pam.d@gccoa.org to let us know to expect you for either or both programs! The Caregiver Support Group will meet the 2 nd and 4 th Tuesdays October 10 th and 24 th at 9:30am at our Beavercreek space at 3095 Dayton-Xenia Road (dark brown building, two lots east of McDonald s). We hope you will prioritize yourself and spend time with your fellow caregivers. 6
