Range Volunteers NRA Chief Range Safety Officer Ray Radank (ridefense@aol.com) 804-1575 NRA Range Safety Officers Ramberto Rodriquez Tom Schulke Range Safety Officers Feg Henkel Gerry Hickey DIRECTORS MESSAGE The Board of Directors has decided to begin a monthly newsletter. This is the first monthly newsletter that will be e-mailed out to the membership. The BOD requests volunteers to help edit and produce it. OSA does not run without volunteers, including members of the board. First, the monthly calendar will be posted with details of the events along with reminders of what s coming up. The BOD also requests suggestions on topics, or catagories of topics to place in the newsletter. The Board of Directors can be reached at rangedirectors@googlegroups.com If you can t reach the BOD s at this e-mail, please forward it to Ray Radank rlrdefense@aol.com and it will be sent to the rest of the board. THIS MONTH S SHOOTING ACTIVITIES 2nd Saturday of the month is the bowling pin shoot. An e-mail was sent out by the treasurer, Rick Stinnett informing every one of the start time for this event which is; Set up is at 2:00 PM followed by sign up and safety briefing and first shot at 3:00 PM. This is lots of fun! If you can hit a target at 15 yards, then you can hit a bowling pin. All handgun calibers are welcome in handgun and/or rifle. 4 stages total. a perfect score uses a total of 26 rounds so even if your conserving ammo, you can still shoot this competition. The 2 nd Sunday of the month is new member orientation. If you know someone that is interested in becoming a member this is the date to do it. New member prospects need to show up at the range at 9:45. Class starts at 10:00, break for lunch around noon and 1:00 PM is firearm safety check out. Depending on new member turn out this lasts from one to two hours. The 3 rd Sunday of the month is IDPA competition, set up is between 11:00 & noon followed by sign up and safety briefing with first shot at 1:00 PM. The stages for this event are always different so how you shoot it is 2

always different and involves wearing a conceal garment, drawing from the holster and changing magazines or reloading revolvers during the course of fire. The 4 th Saturday is OSA Steel Shooters; set up is at 8:00 followed by sign up & safety briefing, first shot at 9:00. Four stages of five steel plates are used in different configurations. You will need 5 handgun magazines per stage loaded to ten rounds, if you don t have five magazines that s okay, somebody on your squad will help reload for you. High capacity 22 rifle magazines can be loaded to 10-20-30 rounds thus requiring less magazines. The 5th Saturday of the month is the Ruger Rimfire Challenge, (Ruger firearms are not required), the 5 th Saturday of the month only occurs 4 or 5 times a year so you will have to watch the calendar.. Both 22 rimfire handgun and rifle are required to participate in this event. You may use up to 200 hundred rounds in this event. Set up is 8:30 followed by sign up and safety briefing, 1 st shot at 9:00. Questions on any of the shoots? Call or see Ray at the range on Monday, Wednesday or Friday. Ladies Corner As some of you already know, Joyce Schulke and hubby Tom are on summer hiatus right now, but will be starting up the ladies class again sometime in September. The first class was a roaring success! Dates and times will posted on the website calendar and in the newsletter. 22 Caliber Rifle Corner This gang shoots on Wednesday mornings, if you think you have what it takes to shoot a bullseye that is smaller than the diameter of a 22 caliber bullet at fifty yards then come and try your luck with these shooters. Bob, Rich, Charlie, Jerry, John and Teeny (sorry if I left anyone out) would love to show you how it s done. Ammo Reloading Corner Some members of OSA that are experienced handloaders have expressed an interest in assisting Ray Radank, a NRA certified handloading instructor, in conducting a handloading class for OSA members that are interested in reloading ammunition. At the range, quite a few members have asked Ray about reloading issues, and he has been able to resolve many simple reloading problems for members. Also, in light of current ammo prices and lack of availability, many shooters have become more interested in reloading. Please let Ray know if you are interested in such a class. 3

Useful Information Looking for Ammo??? Try gunbot.net...a website that the Boyscouts use when they need ammo. Gunbot does not sell ammo, but lists providers of ammo and what they have in stock. Gunbot shows you the price per round, case or box price, who has it and how old the posting is, so you are assured of finding your ammo. Just select your caliber from the ammo listing close to the top and make your selection from the display. ATTENTION MEMBERS Mark you calendars for Sunday, September 1st, and plan on attending the General Membership Meeting. The meeting starts at 2:00 PM at OSA. For Sale Ruger Mini 14 ranch rifle 223, stainless steel with black synthetic stock, excellent condition, very accurate shooter, 2 stainless 20 round magazines, one rough 10 round magazine, A1 Optic 3-12X50 scope, new in the box, silver- matt powder coat finish never mounted, photographic multi-coated lenses, moisture, recoil and fog proof, nitrogen filled, eleven level reticle illumination, one piece machined tube.
