EACC NEWS East Aurora Country Club Member Newsletter July, 2016 Board of Directors Bryan Smith President Rudy Ruschmann Vice President House Chairman Vince Rowland Treasurer Golf Chairman Dick Hillegas Secretary Grounds Richard Day Grounds Chairman Doug Marky Message from the President: July, 2016 As you read this, the 64 th edition of the International Junior Masters Golf Tournament is wrapping up. The final matches are being held this afternoon (Friday, July 1 st ), and we will be crowning another Champion as well as all the other Flight winners at the Awards ceremony later this afternoon. Stop by and watch some great golf, and stick around for the complimentary Finals Party, free to all EACC members. This was another great tournament many thanks to all of the IJM Committee members, volunteers and host families for making this tournament one of the premiere Junior Golf events on the continent. If you ve played the back 9 recently, you can see that much progress has been made on the Back 9 Comfort Station, supported by a great volunteer contingent of Club Members who have donated time and materials to the effort. We hope to have the facility open by mid-july, and in next month s Newsletter we will recognize all those who have contributed and have allowed us to substantially reduce the cost of the facility to our Club. On a final note, we continue to increase our membership, and stand at 219 as of the end of June which is up 27 new and returning members this calendar year. Please reach out and welcome our newest members when you see them (their names are contained elsewhere in this edition). See you on the course! Clubhouse News Greetings all! I would like to thank everyone who made this years Junior Master s such a special event. The effort by the members who give their time and more is what continues to make it a premier event. The players and families from out of the area continue to say what a special event it is and that no other tournaments they attend through the year come close! As we role into July some of our biggest events are upcoming. Thanks to all who sold out the Men s Invitational in record time! Also, the Ladies Invitational sign up is in the pro shop for what will be a great two day event! We will also start the sign up shortly for the upcoming August Member Lobster Stag and Sr. Invitational so keep an eye out for that and more upcoming events. Lastly, Save the Date August 27 th will be our Outdoor Concert and BBQ! Thanks for all of the continued support in the clubhouse and events. George Mintzer, House Manager Grounds with Drew. Happy 4 th of July!! Since our last update the weather has been giving us all we can handle on the golf course. Hot and extremely dry has been the theme and we are doing what we can to conserve our water supply while still keeping playing surfaces in acceptable condition. The level of our pond on 11 and 12 has dropped significantly and we have had the pumps shut down a few times because the water level has been too low. We have luckily received some much needed rainfall the past few days and that has helped the course somewhat. More importantly, it has filled the swamp back up for the time being. With the Jr Masters behind us we turn our attention to the Men s and Women s Invitational. These are our biggest events of the year and we are excited to present our best to you and your guests. Lastly, the back 9 comfort station is on the verge of completion. Thanks to all that helped with the trim, painting and siding. We hope to have it open for business in the coming weeks. See you on the Course IJM - July Update Drew Thompson, CGCS The Results of the 64th Annual International Junior Masters will be sent as an E-mail following the completion of the tournament. NEWS FROM THE GOLF SHOP: Summer is in full swing at EACC and things are continuing to go smoothly from the golf side of things. June was another great month on the golf course and I feel as though we are settled in nicely. Our championship season began with an exciting Senior Club Championship. We had a two-way tie after 36 holes in tough windy conditions. Peter Lyons and Rich Day held the same score at the completion of regulation play. The two marched down number 9 in a sudden death playoff that ultimately crowned Peter Lyons as the 2016 Champion. Great playing everyone! We held our 18 hole ladies guest day on Tuesday June 21st. It was a great day with some great golf. Your winners were Debbie Colt, Betty Bible, Sherrill Kujawski, and Jean Kaczor. Congratulations ladies! Social Golf is off to a great start this year, Friday nights are a fun night for everyone involved. The Hawaiian Nine and Dine two person scramble was also a hit. Everyone was very festive and to enjoyed their afternoon on the course. A big congratulations to our winners Bruce and Anna Davidson with a score of 34.74. Please remember, the course is not closed for social golf on Friday nights. If you d rather not participate in the organized game, you are encouraged to come out and play on your own. We can always find a spot for you to enjoy the golf course. Bring your kids, bring your friends, we have plenty of room for everyone! The East Aurora PGA JR League team has been truly fun to be involved with. Junior golf is a backbone to growing not only golf in general but golf here at EACC. We had a great match against Orchard Park that ended in a 6-6 tie. Our last group needed to sweep all three points, and they did just that. We have potentially 3 more matches ahead of us culminating in a parent child scramble to wrap things up. We will keep those involved posted. We are currently in the middle of the International Junior Masters week, and I must say, this is truly a fantastic event. More exciting and energizing than I could have possible imagined. Stay tuned for an update as to how the week played out in the coming days. On a side note, if you ve not experienced this event first hand, you should mark your calendar for next year. These kids can flat out play!! If your child is interested in participating in our Interclub program, please call Kevin or Brandon in the golf shop for further details including the schedule and qualifying dates. David Jones, PGA Social Golf Wants You!... The 2016 Social Golf Season is in full swing! So far we have successfully played 5 of the 14 events. The next event is the "Independence Day Social" scheduled for Monday, July 4, with the format being a "123/321 Best Ball", both 18 and 9 hole segments are available. Bring a guest, or two, even three, or simply reach out to fellow members. With 9 events still to be played there are numerous opportunities to participate. Contact the Pro Shop to sign up and schedule a tee time if required. If you are playing Friday social golf remember you will need to make separate dinner reservations to eat at the Club House. Social Golf is an adult relaxing and fun way to enjoy our Club while meeting fellow members and guests. 3

EACC RECIPROCALS A quick update on EACC Golf Reciprocals with other clubs. Although there are usually no green-fees at these clubs, cart fees, pro-shop purchases, and restaurant/bar charges are billed back to your EACC account. Arrangements and tee-off times must be made through the EACC Pro-Shop. Please give Dave and team at least a week advanced notice when requesting a reciprocal as scheduling will always be dependent on the calendar of the other club. As per our 2016 Directory, we entered the year with 12 reciprocal agreements in place, 7 in Upstate/ WNY, 2 in Pennsylvania, and 3 in Canada as per below: Bartlett Country Club Cavalry Club Corning Country Club Lockport Town & CC Olean, NY Manilus, NY Corning, NY Lockport, NY Moon Brook CC Niagra Frontier CC Stafford Country Club Jamestown, NY Youngstown, NY Stafford, NY Conewango Valley CC Warren, PA Pennhills Club Bradford, PA Cedar Brae CC Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club St. Catherine s Golf & CC Scarborough, Ontario Ottawa, Ontario St. Catherine s, Ontario The EACC Board has recently approved reciprocal agreements with 2 other clubs; Binghamton Country Club and the Manly Golf Club in Manly, NSW, Australia. Manly is beautiful beach town and is a short ferry ride from the city of Sydney. Manly has sent a team of juniors to our IJM tournament the past 2 years and proposed the reciprocal arrangement. While it is quite a trip, if anyone has the chance to visit this part of the world, the folks at Manly Golf Club will treat you quite well. The list of reciprocal clubs will be overseen by the Golf Committee of the Board. We hope to leverage Dave Jones and team not only in administering the process but also refining/expanding the list as we move forward. To this end, please give Dave any feedback, positive or negative, if you play at any of these clubs. Submitted By: John McKenna, Golf Committee 5

18 HOLE GOLF NEWS The 18 Hole Ladies Group would like to thank those of you who participated in the Bosom Buddy 9 & 18 Hole mixer on June 7. Through your generous donations we were able to raise money for the Roswell Park Alliance to support their work in the areas of research, prevention and treatment of Breast Cancer. The winning team at this event were Anna Davidson, Peggy Beers and Donna McKenna. Our Guest Day was held June 21. The weather was glorious and the course was in great shape. The first place winners were Debbie Colt, Betty Bible (Ivy Ridge), Sherrill Kujawski and Jean Kaczor (Gowanda CC). The format was a 2 person best ball with a winning score of 134. Thank you to Anne Szymanski and Mary Hinners for all of the work they put into the planning of this tournament. Upcoming events of note for July are the Member/Member tournament on Tuesday, July 12 & Wednesday, July 13th. This tournament is a better your best ball format open to all 18 Hole members. Pick a partner and sign up in the Ladies locker room by Friday, July 8th. On July 21 we will have an Interclub event at Springville CC open to all 18 Hole members with handicaps between 20-40. Dawn Davis is coordinating this event. Lastly, Anne Woloszynski will be hosting a 2 Day Invitational on July 26 & 27. Sign-ups for the tournament are in the Pro Shop. I. Georgia Rosenthal-18 Hole Chairman NINE HOLE NOTES It has been a glorious June for golf! Our snowbirds have returned, and it is great to be joined by them out on the course. We also had our annual 9 & 18 Hole Mixer, which was wonderful as always. Thank you so much to our 18 Hole hostesses, and the 9 Hole League looks forward to hosting next year. The Mixer is also the time when we try to collect donations for Cancer research. If anyone would still like to donate, please find Nancy Penfold and she will be happy to point you in the right direction. Our events for July are: Guest Day on July 14th, an Interclub at Lockport Country Club on July 26th, and our Classic Tournament on July 28th and August 4th. As always, we are happy to welcome new members to the League at any time during the year. Feel free to contact the Pro Shop or Donna McKenna or Carol Smith if you would like more information about the League. Hope to see everyone around the course! Donna McKenna & Carol Smith 9 Hole League Co-Chairs 6

Associate Board July Newsletter Congratulations to all the International Junior Masters participants, their families and coaches. A special thanks to the many members who agreed to host the participants this year. Their generosity is truly appreciated. Our Board members enjoyed being able to host the hospitality tent each morning for the early morning players and parents. Thank you so much to the hard-working building volunteers and the donations of building supplies and labor from our very generous members in helping to make our back nine comfort station become a reality. It s almost complete and looks great! Members of our Board were happy to contribute by painting the interior a beautiful willow green. Finally, for our new members, and for those of you who have been here awhile as well, feel free to reach out to any of our dedicated Board members to find out more ways to get involved with our wonderful club, Board and golf course. Happy Fourth of July weekend and summertime to all! Cathy Melas Associate Board President PS - We are researching and planning some exciting new projects for this year s enhancements to our club experience from the generous ladies and member support. Thanks so much. More news in the com- MULLIGAN MATTERS At our last Mulligan report the term "Giggle Golf" coined by one of our own was mentioned. In attempting to inform club members of the upcoming Mulligan couples tournament and to stimulate participation I opined that the gigglers would be the fair sex not the men. How prophetic! It came to pass that on the 15th hole, Jane Vossler, golfer extraordinaire, got a hole in one! Her beloved spouse and playing partner wasn't giggling; rather he was heard mournfully discussing "slitting my wrists". So much for "Mulligan Macho"! Thanks Jane & Goeff for providing the extra fun and party fuel for our tourney! The Mulligans want to congratulate the winners of the Junior Masters and thank all of the players for showing us great golf and exemplary sportsmanship. We are already waiting for next year.
