General Information /Rules and Regulations Contest starts at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday and 8:00 a.m. on Sunday Doors open at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday and 7:00 a.m. on Sunday All USTA rules and regulations apply. Questions regarding USTA rules and regulations may be directed to the Parent Liaison table at all MD Council contests or contact a council representative. 3. USTA Membership: All participants must hold a USTA membership in own name for individual entries and pairs or pay Member-for-a-Day fee. Group or organization membership applicable for athletes entering ONLY foundation events (basic strut, military strut, parade march, presentation). Groups may hold a USTA group/organization membership, or each individual may hold individual membership. Application or apply online www.ustwirling.com. If you are not a current USTA member when you SUBMIT your entry, then you must include the member for a day fee. 4. Ages: Athletes must enter at the age they will be on Dec. 31, 2018. 5. Saturday Order of Events: Festival of the Future Teams, Trios, Poms, Corps, Championship Teams and Trios, FreeStyle and Collegiate Critiques, Festival Foundation Events (Modeling, Basic, Military, Presentation, Parade March, /Body Forms, Rhythm Twirl) Compulsory and Movement Technique Evaluations. Full Team Retreat & Awards. 6. Sunday Order of Events: State Championship and Finals, Festival of the Future Championship Events and Advanced Open (Dance Twirl, Strut, Solo, Two Baton, Three Baton). Retreat and Awards. 7. Set System: All athletes / groups must twirl on designated set numbers. Missed turn, no twirl. 8. Festival Eligibility: a) State residents only for State championship events. b) Festival events: foundation, championship, modeling, and Advanced Open, CAS evaluations, and Freestyle open to all participants. c) Athlete/group must compete at eligibility level as of midnight on the entry deadline date. Changes in level after entry is mailed but on or before entry deadline date must be reported immediately to: Terry Althoff (TSTwirl@aol.com) Failure to comply may result in disqualification. 9. To determine levels: Novice no competitive first place awards in that event. Beginner won less than 5 competitive first place awards in that event. Intermediate won less than 10 competitive first place awards in that event. 10. Combining Levels: Contest Director has the right to divide or combine Festival championship, foundation, modeling & Adv. Open divisions. 1 Registration fee is in lieu of collecting spectator fees at the door. Organization fee $25 per team with $150 cap per organization. Individual fee is $20 per athlete (instate). Out of state fee $25 per athlete. All fees must accompany entry. 1 For safety purposes: No flash photography or video lighting allowed. Water, wax or rosin powder not allowed in the competition area. 13. Footwear: No hard-soled shoes or boots allowed on the gym floor. 14. Conduct: Anyone conducting him/herself in an unsportsmanlike manner or damaging school or personal property will be dismissed from the school without refund by the contest director or President of the Council. Awards: 1 st through 7 th Competition for State championship individual events will begin at the combined age divisional level. Primary and Juvenile athletes will finish competition with the Divisional (Semi-Final) round. Each winner at the Divisional round is considered the Divisional champion. The first and second place winners in the combined age divisional (semi-final) rounds for Junior, Senior, and Adult are the competitors in the final round for each event competing for the title of State Grand Champion. Awards: 1 st through 3 rd FESTIVAL FOUNDATION, CAS AND CRITIQUES - SATURDAY FESTIVAL FOUNDATION & MODELING EVENTS Modeling(Dress/Costume): Basic Strut, Military Strut: Parade March, Presentation: Body Forms, Rhythm Twirl: 3. 4. 5. Time limits to follow USTA Trials/Pre-Trials rules. COLLEGIATE CRITIQUES To be held after State Groups. Open to athletes who are enrolled in a college or university, with one or multiple batons to the university fight song and a musical selection of the athlete s choice. Time Limit 1:50-3:10. (MD exception: high school seniors trying out for college allowed for critique) Festival Eligibility: Athletes from all states are eligible for festival foundation, festival championship, and modeling events, compulsory evaluations, open advanced, unsanctioned open events and Free Style. Athletes must compete at eligibility level (nov, beg, etc.) as of April 16, 2018. (beg & int no adv). Categories: Small 4-8 members; Large 9+ members. Levels: State Championship (adv); Festival (beg & int). Trios Teams: Own music. Three twirling members. Tot (Unsanctioned)/Prim/Juv/Jr/Sr 3. Corps divisions: Parade corps Nov and Juv (unsanctioned), Junior(0-15), Senior (16+); Show corps Junior (0-15), Senior (16+); Show team Prim, Juv, Jr, Sr. Corps Categories: Parade corps/show Corps 8 or more members (no small/large). Parade corps pass in review not allowed (2 point penalty). 10. To determine levels: Beginner won less than 5 competitive first place awards; Intermediate won less than 10 first place awards. 1 Lineups will be sent to directors approximately 10 days before contest via e-mail on file in USTA database. 1 Awards: 1 st through 3 rd places. 13. USTA MD,VA, PA State and DC Championship Titles are earned in the following group events: Adv Twirl and Dance Twirl teams, Adv Trio, Parade Corps, Show Corps, Show Team (not unsanctioned events). 14. Team Restriction: Twirl Teams and Dance Twirl teams who choose to compete in both categories MUST adhere to the following regulations: a) must compete with different routines understanding that selected sections may be used in both routines (i.e. 2-baton or 3- baton section, finger series, or rolls, etc); b) must utilize completely different song/music selections. 15. New Event 2018- Artistic Group: 3-3 ½ min with 10 sec leeway. One level, 10+ members. Min age 1 Group may consist of members of both sexes if so desired: See rulebook on USTA website for content restrictions and other pertinent information. If you have two (or more) teams in the same division (ex. 2 beg pri small dance twirl teams) indicate this in the Fill in Name column and enter the appropriate fee for both teams in the Fill in Fee Paid column. 4. All members of more than one team/corps must be designated on the roster listing the name of the other groups with category, level and age division specified. This includes members who may belong to more than one organization. 5. Team Entry Fee includes USTA surcharge. Registration fee is $25 per team capped at $150 per organization and includes facility fee. 6. USTA membership numbers must be provided on entry form. All participants must hold some form of USTA membership or pay the Member-for-a-day fee. 7. State teams are the advanced teams competing for the state championship title. State Championships 2018 Winners Certificate Program Each athlete who places first in ANY individual or pairs event will be eligible to win a gift certificate towards a competition entry at a Maryland Baton Council sponsored competition. Each time an athlete places first in an event, his or her name will be entered into a drawing for a certificate. An athlete may only receive ONE certificate but the more first place wins an athlete has the better his or her chance will be to win a certificate. Winners Certificates will be chosen at the Saturday and Sunday Retreats following Awards.
