Page 2 County Recordbook Award Interviews GENERAL 4-H NEWS Award interviews for 4-H members completing a recordbook is set for Tuesday, July 10, 2012 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at the Grimes County Extension Office. We will be scheduling interview times soon and the interviewees will be receiving a letter via email with the time assigned for you to interview. If there is a major conflict with the time assigned to you, then contact us immediately and we will do our best to accommodate your request. District 9 Leadership Lab When: June 26-28, 2012 Where: Sam Houston State University Cost: $155 per person Registration Deadline: May 25, 2012 through 4-H Connect @ https://texas.4honline.com Whole World in Our Hands See more information at http://d94- h.tamu.edu/files/2010/07/12leadershiplabpromobro c.pdf Council Officers Training The new council officer slate training is set for July 31, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Club Officer and Club Manager Training Club Officer and Club Manager training is scheduled for Saturday August 4, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon. It is mandatory that all club officers and managers attend this training. Shooting Sports Project If you are interested in participating in the Shooting Sports project, please contact the Grimes County Extension Office at (936)873-3907 or Mrs. Sharia Stabler at (979) 229-0979. 60th Annual Grimes County Fair The dates for 2012 Grimes County Fair are June 1-9, 2012. Be sure to refer to www.grimescountyfair.com for any information needed. The Grimes County Fair Association requires that exhibitors must attend at least five(5) 4-H or FFA meetings in order to be eligible to participate in the County Fair. Please be aware of this rule and make sure that you are enrolled on 4-H Connect and you sign in at every meeting that you attend. If you do not sign in, you will not be counted present. Pen of 3 Heifers: Final Palpation is May 14, 2012 at Mid Tex Livestock Auction starting at 6:00 p.m. Creative Arts Division: Mandatory meeting dates were May 7,10, or 12. You needed to have attended one of these meetings. National Anthem Singers Needed. Contact Sandra Kuta at 936-870-5550 if you would like to sing or render an instrumental version of the National Anthem during the fair this year. You may count this as volunteer leadership or citizenship in your 4-H recordbook. Cost is $225 per youth. County 4-H Camp II When: July 11-14 Where: Texas 4-H Center in Brownwood Cost: Youth $225 and Adult Chaperones $105 (fee partially covered by Grimes 4-H for those who meet guidelines) Pre-registration ends June 14, 2012 Grimes County is among five counties that will be attending County Camp II. Spots have been reserved for 15 campers to attend from Grimes County. Remember to Update 4-H Enrollment August 1 Grimes County Adventurer s Camp When: July 25-27 Where: Grimes County Fairgrounds Cost: $50 (4-H members) & $65 (non 4-H members) Pre-registration: July 3, 2012 The Grimes County Adventurer s Day Camp aims to provide young people with opportunities to develop and practice leadership skills through recreation and education. Activities are designed to build teamwork, knowledge and skills, and to encourage camaraderie among youth. Workshop sessions will be both fun and require work. Each morning will start out with opening activities and an assembly in the Main Hall. Each day a meeting at the flag pole, a midmorning snack, lunch, and an afternoon snack will be offered. Campers will receive a T-shirt to be worn on the last day. Camp packets will become available on June 1 at - http://grimes.agrilife.org or may be picked up at the Extension Office. September 1, 2012 marks the beginning of the 2012-2013 year in 4-H. Therefore, every 4-H member will need to go on 4-H connect to re-enroll at http://texas4-h.tamu.edu/. The earliest date to re-enroll in 4-H is August 1, 2012 for the new year. Please note that after August 31, everyone is switched to inactive on the computer and Grimes County 4-H enrollment goes to zero. Let s all work together to make sure that everyone is enrolled as soon as possible. For families without internet access at home please contact Sandra Cook at (936)-873-3907 so that we can get you enrolled in a timely manner. Our enrollment is online. Therefore, completing a paper enrollment form is NOT necessary. However, your 4-H club manager might ask for information in order to be able to contact members and parents by mail and phone..
Page 4 Ag News 2012-2013 Texas Major Show Validation Steer validation for the 2012-2013 Major Stock Show Season will be held on June 25, 2012 at the Mid Tex Livestock Auction at 9:30 a.m. If you ordered tags for Dallas, Fort Worth, San Antonio, Houston, San Angelo, or Austin, you will need to bring your steer to the sale barn to have him validated. Validation will end at 11:00 a.m. If you ordered Sheep and Goat tags for the 2012 State Fair of Texas, you will need to bring your Sheep or Goat to the Grimes County Fairgrounds on June 25, 2012 at 5:30 p.m. Validation will end at 7:00 p.m. Veterinary Science Leader Needed We are looking for a 4-H volunteer to help with the existing Veterinary Science Project. Some members are already in their third year of the project and a volunteer is needed to help them complete this.
