University of Louisville Ladybirds Dance Team 2007-08 Tryout Information Tryouts will be held April 27-29, 2007. Times and locations are as follows: Friday, April 27 th : 3:30-7:30 p.m. @ Cardinal Arena Floyd Street University of Louisville Belknap Campus (Cardinal Arena is connected to the Swain Student Activity Center which is often referred to as the SAC. Saturday, April 28 th : 9:00 a.m. 1:00 p.m. (open practice 7:00 p.m. 10:00 p.m.) @ Planet Dance 1090 Copperfield Drive Georgetown, Indiana 47122 (Directions will be provided. Planet Dance is the official practice facility of the Ladybirds and is a 15 minute drive from campus.) Sunday, April 29 th : 2:00 6:00 p.m. @ Cardinal Arena This final tryout is open to family and all other spectators with a $5.00 donation to the Ladybirds Dance Team. Tryout sessions on Friday and Saturday are closed without exception. General Tryout Information: All candidates must bring a copy of their insurance information/card to the first day of tryouts. NO EXCEPTIONS. The University of Louisville, Planet Dance, and the Coaching Staff are not responsible for injury or illness that may occur as a result of participation. All participants must have their own insurance. All candidates must be accepted to the University of Louisville to be selected as a team member. If you have applied and have not been accepted by the tryout dates you must provide verification that you have applied. You must present a clean-cut image to be selected as a University of Louisville Ladybird. Body piercings, tattoos, extreme hair styles/color are not acceptable at tryouts or in uniform if selected as a team member. Remove all piercings and cover all tattoos prior to arrival at tryouts. All tryout sessions are closed to family and other spectators with the exception of the final tryout on Sunday in Cardinal Arena. The final tryout will be open to all spectators that make a minimum donation of $5.00 to the Ladybird Dance Team. Clothing should be form fitting during that entire tryout process. NO BAGGY SHORTS, TOPS, ETC. Leotards and tights as well as sports bras/tanks and boy-cut shorts are ideal. For the final tryout on Sunday feel free to be creative. Look your best! Shoes must be worn for the entire process. You may wear Foot Undies or sandal soles if desired. Hair should be out of the face at all times. When you arrive at Cardinal Arena on Friday at 3:30 p.m. you will be required to turn in a letter of recommendation from a former teacher or coach and a letter of introduction from yourself that states why you would like to be a Ladybird. You must also attach a photo of yourself to the letter. These letters are due immediately upon your arrival on the first day of tryouts. No exceptions.

You will be judged on the following: Personal Interview Toe Touch Pike Straddle Hurdler Jumps Double Pirouette Triple Pirouette Fouette Turns Turn/Leap Combo (taught at the tryout clinic on Friday) Tryout Routine (taught at the tryout clinic on Friday) We will be looking for well rounded dancers with outstanding skills and technique. Do not assume that a weakness in any one area will automatically disqualify you as a team member. We will be looking for the dancer that is eager to learn and displays a positive attitude at all times. Egos should be left at the door. Any past accomplishments in dance or otherwise carry very little weight in the selection process. Candidates will tryout in groups of two and will be assigned by the Coaching Staff on Saturday. Scores will not be released. The Coaches will make all final decisions on team member selection. Any candidate that has questions after the team selections are announced may call Coach Knight or Coach Sharp after 7:00 p.m. Outbursts or questions from parents will not be accepted. Candidates are encouraged to bring money for sports drinks and bottled water and food. Outside food and drinks will not be allowed in Cardinal Arena on Saturday. Items will be available for purchase on site. If needed, you must provide your own pre-wrap and athletic tape as this will not be provided by the Coaching Staff or University. Dress/Attire: Thursday, Friday, and Sunday you should dress in form fitting athletic clothing. Bra tops, shorts, fitted tanks/tees are all acceptable. On Saturday, the following is mandatory: Girls: skirt with a fitted bra top or tank. Be creative. Hair bows, rhinestones, etc. Keep it suitable for family viewing! Stand out in the crowd! Guys: tucked-in polo shirt and khaki shorts. Shave and fix your hair!

All tryout material will be taught at the tryout clinics on Thursday and Friday. It is important that you attend all four days of the tryout process. We are looking for well-rounded cheerleaders with outstanding skills and CHEER LEADING ability! We realize that not all stunters have advanced tumbling skills and vice versa. Be prepared to take direction and learn during the tryout process. Do not assume that a weakness or lack of skill in any one area will automatically disqualify you as a team member. Display an eager and positive attitude at all times. You MUST bring the following on Thursday: A reference letter from a current or former coach or teacher. A letter of introduction from yourself that states why you would like to be a University of Louisville Cheerleader. A photo of yourself must be attached to this letter.
