SPORTS TEAM REPORTS WRITTEN BY MR TEMPLETON P.E LEADER Netball On Wednesday 25 th February we took a team of netballers to Castle School for a central venue league tournament organised by SASP. The team line up for the camera: Nicole, Isabelle, Jessie, Yvie, Daisy, Willow, Lily-May, Iona. The team played and behaved brilliantly, moving the ball with great speed and scoring many goals. It wasn t until the final game that they conceded any goals and finished with a won three, lost one record. Thanks to SASP for organising, to the Castle School for hosting and providing umpires and to the parents / carers for their continued support. Football On Monday 2 nd March we had our final girl s football tournament of the season. We mixed up the year 5 and 6 players between the teams and played some matches. Yvie, Katie, Amber, Millie L, Iris Daisy, Courtney, Lily-May, Jessie, Isabelle. Nicole, Millie A, Mia, Iona, Rowan, Fae, Willow, Lauren, Isabella. Great work from both teams in the last tournament of the season. Many thanks to SASP, Kings College and all the parents / carers for their support as well as Shane Morris for all his help throughout the year. Best wishes to our Year 6 girls who play for local weekend clubs and also those that hope to represent their secondary schools in football next year! Tag Rugby On Tuesday 3 rd March, Mr Lees and Mr Kerton took 2 tag rugby teams to Bishop Fox s for their final tournament of the season. Both teams played very well and showed how far we have come with our tag rugby over the year, both in terms of participation and tournament performances. Thanks to Mr Kerton who took a team for this event and Mr Lees for his support throughout the tournaments. Also thank you to Richard Huish College for the referees, SASP for the event and Bishop Fox s for hosting. We will continue our practice sessions on a Thursday until Easter. If this is your last year, hunt out some rugby opportunities at your secondary school and keep up the good work!

Catchball On Wednesday 4 th March we took two Y4 teams to a Catchball tournament at Castle School organised by SASP. These were different players to those who had represented the school at Y4 football in the autumn term. Catchball is a game like netball or basketball where points are scored by throwing the ball to a person stood in a circle at the end of the court. If that player catches the ball in the circle, a point is scored. We took a 4AR team and also a 4HL team. 4AR: Leo, Jack, Beth, Ella, Ze, Charlotte, Rosie. Well played team 4AR! 4HL: Adam, Harry, Isabelle, Ruby, Lottie, Lucy, Jayden. Brilliant play team 4HL! Both teams had a great time at the event and may want to explore local basketball or netball clubs as a result. Behaviour was fantastic and we will look to send some different children again to the next tournament. Very pleasing to see current Year 5 pupil Jessie and ex North Town student Jess refereeing the matches. There are plenty of different roles to be taken in sport and officiating is one of them! Many thanks to the parents / carers for their support. Netball On Thursday 5 th March we played our competitive netball tournament at Castle School. Senora Mitchell took the teams with support from Mrs Aspden. Here is her report: Excellent play from all involved in the A team. We have made huge progress this term with our footwork skills. I can see significant improvements in our shooting skills. Muchas gracias to everyone who helps to get the netball posts out at lunch times as I'm sure this is part of the reason. I hope this impressive result of 3 wins will get us through to the next round. We must continue to improve for our next match though as there were some highly skilled players in teams we didn't play against today. Team: Lily-May, Nicole, Isabelle, Daisy, Willow, Iona, Yvie. Watching the B team I saw some excellent interception skills from Lauren and Millicent and good defending from all players. They played with gutsy determination against players who, at times, towered over them. I did notice significant improvement in the whole team's skills as the tournament progressed and good organisation from Jessie. Team: Millie A, Millie L, Isabella, Iris, Lauren, Megan B, Fae, Jessie. In summary a great experience for the B team who are all from year 5 while the A team move into the Taunton Area finals. There will be more chances for more children to represent the school in netball over the coming weeks. Cont d

Football On Monday 9 th March we had our final boy s football tournament of the season at Castle. We fielded both a year 5 and year 6 team and played some matches. North Town Eagles: Thomas, Joe, Raffey, Finley, Ruben, Lewis. North Town Hawks: Ed, Jack, Bray, Daniel, Josh, Ben, Rudy, Frankie Excellent behaviour and attitudes from both teams who played some fantastic football at times and scored some great goals. The Year 5 team may be back next year but best of luck to our Year 6 team as they go on to play at their secondary schools. Thanks to SASP for organising and SCAT for providing referees as well as all the parents/carers who came along to support the teams. Cross Country On Saturday 7 th March some children from North Town took part in the Somerset Primary School Cross Country championships at Kings College. A huge well done to Lottie and Lucy in 4HL who took on the course and ran very well. In year 6, Raffey, Louis and Autumn took part. Well done to all three runners who recorded personal bests in their 1700m distance and a special well done to Autumn who came third overall. Lottie and Lucy from 4HL. Louis, Autumn and Raffey with their results. Basketball We took two teams to the basketball finals at Heathfield on Thursday 12 th March. Both teams performed extremely well both winning and losing games. It wasn t enough to make the county finals but a huge well done to everyone. It has been great to see out of school basketball develop at North Town as a result. Daisy, Willow, Iona, Raffey, William, Tyler Yvie, Katy, Louis, Calum, Thomas - Well played! Cont d
