Team Cherwell Junior Triathlon Pool Based Triathlon Sunday 9th July 2017 at Sibford School, Sibford Ferris, Nr Banbury, OX15 5QL. RACE INFORMATION Welcome to Team Cherwell Junior Triathlon. This fun event is open to children aged from eight to sixteen and comprises of a nonstop swim, cycle and run challenge suitable for all abilities over very achievable distances in a safe environment. The event will be chip timed and all finishers will be presented with a medal. 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd in each age group will also receive a separate trophy. Venue and Car Parking The event is base at: Sibford School, Sibford Ferris, Nr Banbury, OX15 5QL. Car Parking: Enter the school through the main entrance and follow the signs as directed. There will be ample parking in the school grounds, so PLEASE DO NOT PARK IN THE VILLAGE. BTF Licence: If you are a BTF member, please have your licence available for checking at registration no licence on the day = 1. What Equipment do I need to bring? Swim costume / tri-suit Goggles & swim cap Towel Bike & helmet Safety pins (8 available at registration) for race number or Number belt (optional) Running shoes Top (if required) Talc (optional) Sun cream (as required) Drinks Something to eat before / after the race as required Please note refreshments are available on site including bacon butties! J Timing Chips: These will be attached on poolside by marshals and will be placed on your left ankle. You should ensure that they are given up before you leave the Finish Zone. Lost chips will incur a fee. Chip timing is provided by StuWeb Timing. Changing room / showers: The school has allocated shower and changing facilities for athletes which are situated adjacent of the swimming pool building next to the entrance to registration. Access to these will be clearly marked. Please note, there are no lockers in the changing rooms, so please do not leave valuables. All athletes belongings are left there at their own risk. Dogs: No dogs allowed on site, except guide dogs Photography: Photography and video is permitted at this event for personal / family usage in keeping with BTF policies. This means that we require you to register your intent and wear the provided sticker. Anybody not complying will be challenged. By entering the event you have agreed that we can take photograph/video for promotional purposes. 2
Marshals and officials: Marshals will be wearing hi-vis vests. The exception to this, due to heat, will be those in the pool area. Their role is primarily one of safety and to ensure the smooth running of the event. You will be expected to obey all reasonable instructions and directions given by marshals whether competitor or spectator. Please note that marshals are NOT responsible for counting athletes laps on the bike or run it is your responsibility! In the swim, however, they will count laps and indicate when athletes have 2 lengths to go. However, it is recommended that the athletes still keep a count of their own swim lengths. There will be an additional timing mat on the bike course check laps Emergency: There are no planned fire drills in the event that an alarm is sounded YOU MUST assume that is a real emergency and comply with any instruction given to you by the pool staff. The general principle applies of leaving promptly by the nearest fire exit (please familiarise yourself with these) not stopping to collect personal items and do not return to the building until such times you are told by a warden that it is safe to do so. There medical team on site, if you feel unwell or injured please notify a marshal and they will inform the medical team. On the bike course there will be strategically positioned marshals who will have a whistle, if there is an accident, please follow the instructions given by marshals Emergencies by their very nature occur unexpectedly we will use the PA system and a hand held megaphone to keep people informed and to issue instructions. As individuals if you feel that a 999 call is necessary don t delay or await permission or seek authority the site is Sibford School, Sibford Ferris, Banbury, OX15 5QL Alternative Event: If after consulting the Event Referee, the organisers feel for safety or other reasons it is not appropriate to continue with the event being a Triathlon we reserve the right to convert it to an Aquathlon (Swim and Run only). In these circumstances the Swim distances and wave personnel will remain unaltered, but the start times will all be delayed by precisely 15 minutes. The run distances will reflect the maximum permitted under BTF rules. We will have alternate information available and again make use of the PA system and megaphone. Behaviour: It is with some regret that there is a need to include this Plea. Parents, participants and other supporters please respect the fact that everyone present and assisting are volunteers and that this Sporting Event is for the benefit and enjoyment of the competitors regardless of their ability and experience. 3
Enthusiastic sporting support and encouragement for ALL athletes is welcomed and endorsed However, barracking, aggressive shouting, rebuking youngsters even your own is not acceptable and will not be permitted. Competitors must conduct themselves in a proper manner; others must be treated with respect and courtesy; threatening, abusive, insulting words or behaviour will not be tolerated; failure by parent / guardian to comply too the above or instructions could lead to the competitor being disqualified. Please familiarise yourself with all BTF rules. By participating in the event you are deemed to be aware and accepting of them and through you so is your child. Other very important things to remember: In order to avoid accidents, safeguard equipment and protect personal possessions, competitors must NOT bring helpers or family members into the transition area. Marshalls are on hand to help. Tumble turns are permitted and so is overtaking provided it s safe and you don t hinder others Do not run pool-side walk only Rack your bike by the seat pin at the allocated place from the side that the number is displayed, with the bike facing you. After cycling return it to the same spot. Bike helmet must be securely fastened before you touch your bike. You must rack your bike in the same place from where you got it before removing your helmet. All equipment must be placed with your bike. Number to be fastened at each corner front and back. Tri-belts can be used. Should be visible on back during bike and on front in the run. It is your responsibility to know and complete the full course, and count your own lengths and laps. On the bike route, always keep left overtake on the right and warn other competitors. Don t get on your bike before the mount line - equally you must be off the bike before the dismount line. On the run course a rubber band system will be used for TS2, TS3 and Youths. Every time you pass the finish line a band is to be placed in the bucket. Therefore TS2, 2 laps, so one rubber band.bands will be in goodie bags. Safety and other reasonable instructions by marshals must be obeyed. Keep in the shade before the event drink little and often use water resistant sun cream don t forget safety pins, towel & talc. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE DRINKS STATIONS! Parents /guardians sporting encouragement of all athletes is welcomed improper behaviour and outside assistance is not and will not be accepted. Competitors shall use no other aids other than swim cap (not provided), goggles, costume and nose clip if necessary. Please remember to use a bin rather than litter the course. Above all enjoy it!
