Back by popular demand, this program teaches strong swimmers the ins and outs of being a lifeguard. This hands-on course will teach life saving techniques, how to be a stronger swimmer, basic first aid and CPR. After completing the course, participants will have the option to volunteer at the Beach and assist a Swim Instructor with a swim lesson. Deadline to register is 7/2. Instructors have been involved with competitive swim teams will provide instruction to help students refine competitive strokes and swimming techniques. Students must provide their own swim goggles. The beach is located within the Village of Clarkston City limits, between Holcomb and Dixie Hwy. There are swimming areas for the little tykes and the big kids too, including an area with a few simple play toys. SORRY, NO PETS ARE ALLOWED at the beach. Portable toilets are on site, including ADA units. Handicap Parking available. Lifeguards are on duty during operating hours. The inclement weather number is 625-1444. Bathroom facilities are limited, so come in your suit & don t forget a towel. All users need to shower before entering the Spraypark. Please note, on days where user capacity is at its maximum, users will take turns in 15 minute intervals so that everyone gets a chance to be on it. Temperatures must maintain 70 degrees for the Spraypark to open. Children under 12 must be supervised by an adult. The Spraypark is open Monday-Friday, Noon-7pm; weekends 10am-7pm, weather permitting, for all ages. Toddler Time, ages 6 and under, is from 10am-11am, Monday-Friday. The Parks and Recreation Department offer swimming classes during the summer months, for youth 6 months and older, of all abilities. Lessons are offered at Deer Lake Beach, 350 White Lake Road, Clarkston. In case of inclement weather, make-up classes will be held on Friday and/or Saturday of the same week in which the class was canceled. For more information, please call (248) 625-8223. Independence Township Parks & Recreation 2008 Swim Lesson Registration Form GENERAL LESSON INFORMATION All lessons are held at Deer Lake Beach, 350 White Lake Road, Clarkston. The SWIM LESSON HOT LINE number in case of inclement weather is (248) 625-1444. It is your responsibility to call the hotline number if weather is questionable. Students will not enter the water at the beach when the air temperature is below 67 degrees. All classes are held MONDAY through THURSDAY for two consecutive weeks at Deer Lake Beach. Make-up classes will be held on Fridays and/or Saturdays of the same week as the missed class. The instructors will be ready for your children 5 minutes prior to class. Please bring warm clothing and dry towels for immediately after class. Instructors will release children only to their parents. Please inform your child s instructor if someone other than a parent will be picking up your child. For all swim programs, children not completely potty-trained must wear swim diapers. Disposable swim diapers are available for purchase at the beach. A few weeks after class, you will receive a status report from the instructor indicating your child s progress and the suggested next level of classes. Refunds: After the registration deadline, absolutely no refunds or credits will be given. For patron-requested refunds prior to the registration deadline, there will be a $5 service fee. Refunds will be issued in the form of an Account Credit (formerly Gold Certificates), check, or your VISA or MC will be credited. No cash refunds will be given. Check refunds will be issued according to Township Finance Department s bill-paying schedule, which may take 4-6 weeks. If the refund is less than $10, a credit will be posted to your account. Transfers: All patron-requested transfers must be done prior to the registration deadline. In addition to any difference in fees, a $5 administrative fee will be charged to transfer between any activities. All transfers must be done in person unless payment is made by VISA or MC.
