WELCOME TO THE MILLER FAMILY YMCA WHO WE ARE Our Mission The Miller Family YMCA builds relationships, impacts lives and strengthens our community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. What We Do As the nation s leading nonprofit, the Y makes accessible the support and opportunities that empower people and communities to learn, grow and thrive. With a focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, the Y nurtures the potential of every youth and teen, improves the nation s health and well-being, and provides opportunities to give back and support neighbors. Financial Assistance: It is the goal of the YMCA to be affordable to all and desires that no person be turned away because they cannot afford to pay. As a result, a financial assistance program is available. This is made possible by the generous support of members, individuals, foundations and businesses through our Annual Support Campaign. Financial assistance applications are available online or at the Member Service Desk. Camp Payment Policies Deposits: A one time $50 deposit is required at the time of registration to reserve space in our day camp program. An additional $50 deposit is also due for each Specialty Camp registration. All camp deposits are non-refundable. Balances Due: Remaining fees will be automatically drafted two weeks prior to the session start date (see calendar below). You may pay the balance with a check or cash prior to the draft date, but we do require a billing method be put on file. Registrations within two weeks of session start date must be paid in full. Cancellations/Changes/Transfers: All requests must be submitted no later than 2 weeks prior to the session start date. What To Bring To Camp It is important that your child comes to camp after having received a good night s sleep as well as a healthy breakfast in order to ensure a fun, safe and energetic day. Our staff want your child to get the most out of what our camp has to offer. Campers should be dressed in comfortable clothing and always wearing closed-toe tennis shoes. WELCOME TO SUMMER CAMP Our Camps Summer is a time when people of all ages can benefit from healthy fun, enriched learning, new experiences and new friends. In summer programs at the Y, we offer all this and more in a safe, supportive environment, keeping kids and adults physically active and mentally engaged with fun activities all summer long. Join the Y to enroll your child in our summer programs for the time of their lives. Our Staff Our day camp staff are selected based on experience, attitude, skills and their ability to accept and demonstrate the YMCA Core Values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Our professional staff attend trainings covering risk management, diversity, behavior management, YMCA Mission and Character Development, child abuse prevention, games, skits and songs, and team building. They will ensure your child has a fun and safe summer. Day Camp Kindergarten-2nd grade This camp is uniquely programmed to fit the needs of campers entering Kindergarten-2nd grade, whether you are a first time camper or returning from last summer. Games, activities and projects are specifically selected around weekly themes and are planned with the younger campers in mind. Special field trips will be offered throughout the summer to add even more adventure to your child s camp experience. SPECIALTY CAMPS Specialty camps are always a blast! You and your friends will enjoy new activities, exciting field trips, and so much more. Join us at specialty camp for the best summer ever! Kid s Triathlon Camp Kids Triathlon Camp is a multi-sport camp just for kids. The camp is designed to introduce young athletes, ages 7-13 years old, to multi-sport training in a positive and fun environment. All athletes will receive instruction in swimming, cycling, running and how to transition between events. Proper technique, safety, pacing and sportsmanship are emphasized while practicing for the Kid s Triathlon on July 4th. Participants will need to provide their own personal equipment for the camp including a bike, helmet, goggles, etc. Ages: Entering 2nd-8th grade Dates: Week 3, June 30-July 3 Fees: $175/week Times: 8:30am 12:30pm $50 Day Camp add-on available Sports of all Sorts Campers will have fun practicing and competing in a variety of different sports as well as making crafts, playing games, swimming and other camp activities. Sports will include flag football, soccer, basketball and more. This exciting camp will also include a trip to the Dallas Cowboys Training Camp to watch their summer practice league. Kids will love seeing their favorite professional athletes up close and personal. Ages: Entering Kindergarten-2nd grade Dates: Week 9, August 10-14 Fees: $175/week + $25 field trip fee *Early Bird Fee through March 31st: $155 Finish your week of camp by participating in our Kids Triathlon Race on Saturday, July 4th. Your camp fees include entry into the Kids Triathlon. *Early Bird Fee through March 31st: $155 Water Polo Camp Water Polo Camp is designed to introduce the sport of water polo to children 7-13 years old by teaching basic skills and an understanding of the sport in a recreational format. Participants will learn the basic skills of dribbling, passing and shooting and receive an introduction on the elements of the game. All players are welcome. Campers must be able to swim 25 yards unassisted. Ages: Entering 2nd-8th grade Dates: Week 5, July 13-July 17 Fees: $175/week Times: 8:30am 12:30pm $50 Day Camp add-on available *Early Bird Fee through March 31st $155 4

ADDITIONAL SUMMER PROGRAMS Summer Learning Program Studies show that children typically forget between one two months worth of schooling during the summer. In an effort to curb learning loss when the school year ends, or get a leg up this summer before returning to school in the Fall, the Miller Family YMCA is offering our summer learning program! Teachers will work with children on study & test taking skills, as well as improve their self confidence in specific subject areas. Each session will offer assistance in Math/Science or Reading/Writing. Ages: Entering 1st-5th grade Dates: Session 1: July 6-July 23 Session 2: July 27-August 13 Math/Science- Monday & Wednesday Reading/Writing Tuesday & Thursday *Session includes two 1 hour sessions, twice per week for three weeks Fees: $175/3 week session (per subject) Benefits of the summer learning program: Low child to teacher ratio Available for entering grades1-5 Teachers have advanced college degrees and/or CA teaching credential Teachers will assist with study and test taking skills Children gain self-confidence in subjects CAMP SWIM LESSONS Our swim lessons teach your child confidence and skills in the pool. We encourage our campers to also learn the skill of swimming at the Y over the summer. We offer special swim lesson prices for kids that are enrolled in our Day Camp programs. OVERNIGHT RESIDENT CAMPS Whether you choose a week in Big Bear, the high Sierra s or both the YMCA camping experience offers an exciting, safe community for young people to explore the outdoors, build self-esteem, develop interpersonal skills and make lasting friendships and memories. Campers will share cabins with friends and meet new cabin mates from other Ys providing an opportunity for your child to create new and lasting memories with campers from all over their community. YMCA Resident Camps create an environment that encourages heartfelt laughter, interactive learning and personal growth. CAMP SEQUOIA LAKE Conejo Valley YMCA Grades: 3rd 12th Dates: August 1st 8th CAMP OAKES Simi Valley YMCA Grades: 4th 12th Dates: June 27th - July 3rd Camp Oakes gives campers a chance to sing, dance, be themselves, and build lifelong relationships and memories that will never fade! Camp Oakes is located in the beautiful mountains of Big Bear. There will be exciting games, activities, talent shows, dances and our Rag & Leather program. Some camp activities include: horseback riding, high ropes, arts & crafts, low ropes, zip line, climbing wall, disc golf, canoeing, volleyball, riflery, field games, archery campfires, swimming and night observatory. Over 900 acres of forest surrounded by Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks make YMCA Camp Sequoia Lake the perfect location to explore the great outdoors, develop confidence and make memories that will last a lifetime. Campers will be active from sunrise to sunset experiencing high ropes, climbing wall, adventure courses, canoeing, lake swimming, archery, rock climbing and arts & crafts. Let s not forget the essentials of Y Resident Camp - campfires, dances, synchronize swimming, slideshows, and the Rag & Leather program. Only): June 20-August 22 SWIM LESSON DESCRIPTIONS Parent/Child: (Ages 6 to 36 months) A parent will accompany their child into the pool to acquaint them with the water environment. An instructor provides guidance in how to help your child develop coordination, motor skills, balance and social skills in the water. (Swim diaper required) Minnow: Mastering freestyle with rotary breathing. Increase endurance of backstroke, freestyle and breaststroke. (50 yards). Prerequisites: Completion of Guppy or the ability to swim the length of the pool without assistance in freestyle with rhythmic breathing, breaststroke, and backstroke without assistance. Fish: Designed to help swimmers perfect freestyle with rotary breathing, backstroke and breaststroke with rhythmic breathing for 50 yards. Learn flip turns and introduction to butterfly. Prerequisites: Completion of Minnow level or ability to swim two lengths of the pool in both freestyle and backstroke. PRIVATE SWIM LESSONS Private swim lessons are a great way to develop swim skills in a personalized environment that fits within your schedule. Each lesson is tailored to fit the swimmers ability and goals and is available for all ages and levels. Instructor/Child Program: (Ages 3 5) Pike: Designed for the beginner who has little to no water experience. Emphasis is on basic swimming skills. Prerequisites: 3 years old Eel: Introduction to arm movements, breathing and glides without assistance. Prerequisites: Child must be comfortable going under water. Ray: Emphasis on swimmer s ability to perform strokes unassisted. Learn the rhythmic and rotary breaking, dive, surface and return to the wall, introduction to backstroke and breaststroke, and continue practicing freestyle. Prerequisites: Completion of Eel or front and back float for 15 seconds and swim 15 feet without a flotation device. Instructor/Child Program: (Ages 6 & up) Polliwog: Gradual introduction to basic swim skills, personal safety, survival float, and confidence building. Prerequisites: 6 years old Guppy: Work on stroke development for freestyle, breaststroke, elementary backstroke. rhythmic and rotary breathing. They also learn how to streamline on their front and back, introduction to butterfly kick, being comfortable in the deep end. Swimmers are divided into groups by ability and age and practice 2-3 days a week, year round. All Manta Ray swimmers work on perfecting their strokes, increasing endurance, and learning to be a Y team member exemplifying the YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. The team participates in one swim meet a month. Swim meets are not mandatory, but strongly encouraged as part of the complete competitive swimming experience. 7
