General Tournament Information Master Schedule: The Master Schedule will be sent out in a separate Excel file, it is also available online on the Frozen Ring page on the SARA website. Contacts: A representative from the tournament committee will be present at each rink at all times. If you need information, or require help during the tournament please contact any one of them. You will be able to identify them by the reflective vests they will be wearing, for outdoor personnel or lanyards they will be wearing for indoor personnel. The following phone number can be used to contact the tournament headquarters or a Tournament Committee member 780-915-9951for Donna Sawchuk If your question cannot be resolved at the rink s control desk or by a committee member, please contact your divisional liaison. -U10 Liaison: Helen Jamison: 780-245-6228 -U12 Liaison: Melissa Scott: 780-257-3531 Team Responsibilities: Both teams are required to provide the following people: Home Team: Scorekeeper, Penalty Box, Shot clock operator (U12 only) and two ice scrapers for after their game Visitor Team: Stop Watch Operator for Game Time, Penalty Box and two ice scrapers for after their game. These volunteers will need to report to the rink s control desk 30 minutes prior to the start of the game. The tournament committee will do their best to provide timekeepers and shot clock operators for the semifinals and final games. Please have your team check in at the control desk and they will let you know. Rink Information: Round Robin Play: Each team will play a minimum of 3 round robin games in cases where a fourth round robin game is played the first of their four games will NOT count when determining that team s standings. All Bronze and Gold Medal games will be played at an outdoor arena. For outdoor arenas all time (game and penalties) will be run by a stop watch. Time will be announced to both teams throughout the game. Each team will have only one gate for line changes and penalties. A visible 30 second shot clock will be at each of the outdoor rinks. Heart and Hustle Awards Round Robin Games: After each game your team s coaching staff will be asked to choose one member of your team for the Heart and Hustle award during the round robin games. This player will receive a gift of appreciation from the tournament organizers for exemplifying what ringette players are about: good sportsmanship, determination and dedication to learning and improving their game. This tournament is sanctioned under Ringette Alberta and encourages fair play and sportsmanship throughout the tournament for all players, coaches, and fans. Absolutely no abuse of the officials will be tolerated and may result in expulsion from the tournament. Elevate Activewear: Elevate Activewear will be at the Alpine Arena throughout the weekend selling merchandise. Heaters: Both outdoor rinks and benches will be running heaters for players when needed. Off ice officials/fans: please note that there are no heaters so please dress appropriately Snow Conditions, Very cold or too warm to play: This tournament is played in all weather conditions and we have contingency plans in place if there is a heavy snowfall or it is very cold or too warm to play. Snow conditions: The City of St. Albert (Public Works) will provide snow removal equipment if we receive a heavy snowfall. We will require teams to provide 2 ice scrappers for each outdoor game Very cold: Players dress appropriately for the weather. Long johns, hand warmers, balaclavas and thick socks are suggested. Layering is the best way to keep your player warm. Propane heaters (similar to a forced air furnace) will be on the players bench Additional breaks during the game to warm up in rink dressing rooms (dressing rooms are heated) Too warm: Game times will be adjusted to earlier in the morning or later in the evening when the ice is frozen Arena Dressing Room Information: Please bring skate guards to wear from dressing room to bench. With only 2 dressing rooms it is imperative that teams exit the dressing within in 20 minutes of finishing their game. Incoming teams will not be able to access the dressing rooms until 30-40 minutes prior to your game start time. Emergency Action Plan: The emergency action plans can be found on the SARA website under the Frozen Ring page. 3

Social Events Friday: -Feature Event Alpine 8:00pm-9:00pm- Come skate and play with the University of Alberta Ringette Team All players are welcome to come out and skate with the U of A Team Develop and learn some new skills while having fun. Saturday: -Alpine Arena 8:00am-11:00am- Free Pancake Breakfast Come out and enjoy breakfast with your team and make some new friends. -Elevate Activewear Shootout (U12) The Elevate Activewear Shootout is scheduled at 11:30 on Saturday at the Alpine Arena. We welcome all goalies and players to participate. Prizes will be awarded to the best U12 goalie and the top U12 shooter. Shooters must wear the following equipment Helmet, skates, stick, gloves, neck guard and team jersey. Goalies must be in full ringette equipment. -Elevate Activewear Shootout (U10) The Elevate Activewear Shootout is scheduled at 2:30pm on Saturday at the Flagstone Arena. We welcome all goalies and players to participate. Prizes will be awarded to the best U10 goalie and the top U10 shooter. Shooters must wear the following equipment Helmet, skates, stick, gloves, neck guard and team jersey. Goalies must be in full ringette equipment. -Coaches Game St. Albert Coaches vs. Out of Town Coaches 8:00pm-9:00 p.m. at Alpine Arena (Coaches must wear helmets, mask, shin guards, gloves and elbow pads) Don t forget your skates and ringette stick. White jerseys will be provided for visiting coaches, or you can bring your own white/light-colored jersey to wear. 4

All Weekend: Please advise your parents and players that we have raffle baskets, 50/50 draw, loonie stick draw and silent auction items located in the Alpine Clubhouse directly above the Alpine dressing rooms. Souvenir mugs will be available for purchase at the clubhouse. Once purchased the mug can be used for complimentary hot chocolate and coffee for the entire weekend. Fire Pit Come and sit around the fire and enjoy hot chocolate after each game for the players. There will be BBQ hotdogs and Hamburgers available (for a nominal fee) at both outdoor rinks. Alpine hours 11:00am-3:00pm and during feature events. Please see the control desk for at Flagstone for hours at this location.. Raffle Draws will be closed at 12:00pm on Sunday and winners will be announced at Alpine Arena shortly thereafter. Come in and mingle with other Ringette Players and Parents. 5

Tournament Rules STADNYK FROZEN RING TOURNAMENT Tournament Specific Rules: 1. Length of halves during round robin play shall be a minimum of 15 minutes. Semi final and final games will be 18 minute halves. Please be ready to start 5 minutes prior to scheduled ice time to insure game completion. Minimal warm-ups. 2. Both teams are required to provide the following people: Home Team: Scorekeeper, Penalty Box, Shot clock operator (U12 only) and two ice scrapers for after their game (We will be collecting vehicle keys for the shot clock wireless remotes) Visitor Team: Stop Watch Operator for Game Time, Penalty Box and two ice scrapers for after their game. The tournament committee will do their best to provide timekeepers and shot clock operators for the semifinals and final games. Please have your team check in at the control desk and they will let you know. 3. In U10 Division, maximum of 3 goals in the game including OT, but eligible for shoot out if they do not have a penalty. 4. All divisions, we have a zero tolerance policy for abuse towards on ice or off ice officials, this includes all team staff, fans and players, anyone abusing this policy will be asked to leave the tournament. U10 Step 2 7 teams teams, 1 pool After the round robin games, the top two teams will advance to the gold medal final game and the 3 rd and 4 th place teams will advance to the bronze medal game 1 team will play a fourth game during the round robin play, but the first of their four games will NOT count when determining that team s standings. U10 Step 3 5 teams teams, 1 pool After the round robin games, the top two teams will advance to the gold medal final game and the 3 rd and 4 th place teams will advance to the bronze medal game 1 team will play a fourth game during the round robin play, but the first of their four games will NOT count when determining that team s standings. U12A - 4 teams, 1 pool After the round robin games, the top two (2) ranked teams will advance to the Gold medal final game. The 3rd and 4 th place teams will advance to the Bronze medal final game. U12C - 3 teams, 1 pool After the round robin games, the top two (2) ranked teams will advance to the final game. Ringette Alberta Event Sanctioning Required Rules for Sanctioned Tournaments: 1. The Official Rules of Ringette Canada will apply. 2. All bench staff must be certified by December 15th, any coach ignoring this rule will receive a suspension. 3. In the case of a conflict in color, the VISITING team must change their uniform. 4. There will be at least a two (2) minute break between halves and a scrape between all games. 5. In playoff and medal round games, the higher place team shall be HOME. 6. U12 teams must declare goaltender(s), captains and alternate captains on the game sheet by indicating (G), (C), or (AC). 7. Teams MUST declare affiliated players by indicating (AP) on the game sheet. It is the responsibility of the team to ensure that Ringette Alberta affiliated player rules is followed. 8. Fair Play will be stressed throughout the tournament. 9. Any TEAM accumulating MORE THAN 30 penalty minutes in any ONE GAME shall see the head coach or acting coach from that game suspended for their next tournament game. (No grievances will be accepted) 10. A MATCH penalty will automatically result in suspension from all subsequent tournament games. 11. Game scores will be posted at the Flagstone and Alpine arenas and on www.stalbertringette.com and recorded for tie breaking procedures, with a MAXIMUM SEVEN GOAL difference. Player Affiliation: Teams are required to strike the names of players who are not participating in a game from the game sheet to ensure proper verification. 6

When using an affiliate(s) the name(s) of the player(s) and their jersey number must be written on the game sheet followed by (AP). The maximum number of players listed on a game sheet: When using no affiliates... 18 players When using affiliate(s) as skater(s) only... 12 players When using affiliate skater(s) plus an affiliate goalie... 13 players When only using an affiliate goalie... 18 players Rules for Sanctioned Tournaments: 1. Teams must be ready to go on the ice five (5) minutes before game time. Teams not iced within two (2) minutes of the referee s whistle being blown to start the game will forfeit the game. However, the game will be played as an exhibition game. The game will be recorded as 7 0. 2. Game sheets are to be picked up at the rink s control desk of the arena. They are to be completed and signed by the coach at least fifteen (15) minutes before game time and returned to the rink s control desk. 3. Any team wishing to file a protest may do so by submitting their request in writing, along with $200, to the Tournament Committee: a. Notification of a protest must be received within thirty (30) minutes of the incident occurring to enable sufficient time to deal with the protest. b. A grievance committee will meet to deal with any protests received. (If the protest is upheld the $200 will be refunded). c. No game protests involving referee judgment will be accepted. THE REFEREE S DECISION SHALL BE FINAL. Tournament Game Tie Breaking Procedure: If a ROUND ROBIN game is tied at the end of regulation time, each team will be awarded (1) one point. If a game is tied at the end of a SEMI-FINAL OR FINAL GAME, the teams will immediately play a five (5) minute stop-time SUDDEN VICTORY overtime period (the first team to score will be declared the winner). Possession of the ring will be decided by a coin toss. If no goals are scored in the overtime period, the game will be decided by a shootout: Coaches will have two (2) minutes to identify their five (5) shooters HOME team will shoot first Alternate shooters until all five shooters from each team have gone, or a winner is declared If still tied after the first round, shooters continue to alternate in a SUDDEN VICTORY shoot out until a winner is declared. All players on each team must be used in the shootout, before the shooters are repeated. NOTE: Penalties assessed in regulation or overtime play shall carry-over to the next period. Players with a penalty extending into the shoot-out are not eligible for the shoot-out. Each team is entitled to ONE additional 30-second timeout in overtime. Team Standings Tie Breaking Procedure: Note: Regardless of game score, only a SEVEN goal difference will be credited in applying these rules. When two or more teams have an equal number of points after round robin play, the teams will be ranked according to the following rules: 1. The winner of more game(s) between each other during the round robin will be declared the highest position. 2. If still tied, teams shall be ranked according to the difference between goals for and against in games between the tied teams in round robin play. 3. If still tied, teams shall be ranked according to the least goals against in games between the tied teams in round robin play. 4. If still tied, teams shall be ranked according to the difference between goals for and against in all games played in the round robin. 5. If still tied, teams shall be ranked according to the least goals against in all games played in the round robin. 6. If still tied, teams shall be ranked by a coin toss. NOTE: Each step of the tie breaking rules shall apply to all teams involved in the tie. If there are more than two teams tied, revert back to 1 after one team s ranking has been determined. 7
