VOL. 40, ISSUE 6 A MONTHLY PUBLICATION OF THE INDY CHAPTER OF THE STUDEBAKER DRIVERS CLUB, JUNE 2014 HELLO FOLKS; From Our President Sorry to tell you that I do not have an article for the June edition of the Bulletin because Linda has been in the hospital twice this month and I have been very busy. With her and the house I m going to try to make the Studebaker Nationals and hope to see you there. Chuck The 2014 Studebaker Nationals And Orphan Drags The seventh annual 2014 Studebaker Nationals and Orphan Drags was Friday and Saturday May 23rd and 24th in Brown County, In. Friday we all met for dinner and after dinner we went to our home for pies. We enjoy having everyone here. 1

Saturday we arrived at the track early and all pitted together in a row so everyone could see the beautiful cars in one place. The weather was in the mid 70s and clear, perfect for a day at the track. We want to thank everyone that came and brought a car to show or race so the parade lap and the Choice Award allowed us to give out a prize to the car chosen by the track staff. The track crew does such a good job and puts up with us every year. My wife Rose and I wanted to include them in the event so we supplied a case of oil to be given to the car of their choice. We ve only had good things said to us from all associated with the track and they love having us there every year. They often ask about their favorite cars, and this year they all were given time to walk down and get a closer look at the cars. A parade lap down a prepared drag strip is an unusual event, it s a big deal and the track staff needed to do extra work to make it happen for us. It s an impressive sight, seeing 13 Studebakers and two Hudsons all on the track at once. Bob Palma won the Brown County Dragway track employee s Choice award. As always there were some great looking cars here, and competition was stiff, but Bob came away the win. Good for Bob. After the parade lap with all the cars, we hit the track around 11:00. We can make laps against each other, randomly, or pair up for some fun racing. We had a reaction time contest and gave out a case of Lucas Hot Rod oil to the driver with the best reaction time. During the day we gave out five cases of oil provided by Lucas Oil. Their Hot Rod oil has high levels of zinc, and is just what is needed for Studebaker engines. Bob Palmas 1964 Daytona Wagonaire The yellow 1951 PU is our son s truck. Jeff and our five year old grandson Parker dressed up and slicked their hair back looking like they came right out of the 50 s. We look forward to doing some racing, getting to see our Studebaker friends, and making new friends. See you next year, Richard and Rose Poe Photos by Richard Poe 2

Friday Night Before the Drags On a perfect Friday evening, the Studebaker Club met at the Artist Colony restaurant for dinner and then moved on to Richard and Rose Poe s home for dessert. Included in the group were Studebaker friends from outside our club. It was a wonderful evening full of delicious dessert and good company. Fred passed away on May 15, 2014. Fred was retired from General Motors. He served our country in the US Army. His wife of 57 years is Donna Browning. Carol Reeves fell May 9th and had to be taken to the emergency room. She is very fortunate that she didn t break any bones but she did hit her head on the tub. They don think she had a concussion, however, she does have a bump on her head. Carol is now in a nursing home for physical rehabilitation. They are building her strength so she can get up and walk small distances on her own. Nurses say she is really trying hard and noticeable improvement has begun to occur in the last couple days. Carol s at: St Mary Healthcare Cason St, Lafayette, IN 47904 Room 116 Cards and flowers would be great. Please contact Raymond Reeves if you d like to call or visit. At this time Barbara McPhearson remains in the IC unit in Indianapolis Commumity North hospital. Her condition is critical. No visitors outside the immediate family are permitted. Cards by well wishers should be addressed to her home address: 700 N Clay St, Frankfort IN 46041. Cards are saved and will be given/shown to her when she is awake enough and able to appreciate them.
