Preseason Road Game No. 1 (0-0-0, 0 pts.) OPENING OF EIGHT-GAME PRESEASON SCHEDULE: Tonight s 8:30 p.m. ET contest at Winnipeg marks the second of eight games on the Blue Jackets 2011 preseason schedule, as Columbus is hosting Winnipeg in a split squad contest tonight at Nationwide Arena. Tonight is also the first games of six in seven days, three of which will be at Nationwide Arena. Following tonight s games, Columbus will host Washington tomorrow night, followed by a trip to Minnesota to face the Wild on Friday. The Jackets return home Sunday to face Buffalo before heading to the nation s capital to face Washington Monday night. The club will play its final home preseason game Sept. 29 against Minnesota before closing out the preseason schedule on the road Sept. 30 at Carolina. BLUE JACKETS OPEN ELEVETH TRAINING CAMP: The Blue Jackets opened their eleventh National Hockey League season with the opening of training camp this past Saturday at the OhioHealth Ice Haus with a total of 59 players taking to the ice. Two of the first three days consisted of on ice practices sandwiched around the second annual Owners Tournament. Players were divided into four teams and played two games each. OWNERS TOURNAMENT RESULTS: Team Wolfe defeated Team Pizzuti, 5-2, in the championship game of the Blue Jackets Third Annual Owners Tournament on Sunday. Michael Chaput scored two goals, including the game-winner, and added an assist to help Team Wolfe rally from an early 2-0 deficit. In the consolation game, Team McConnell beat Team Crane, 4-1, to take third place. Ryan Johansen led Team McConnell with a goal and two assists, while goaltender Curtis Sanford overcame an early goal against to pick up the win in net. 2010-11 BLUE JACKETS RECAP COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS COMPLETE 10TH NHL SEASON: The Columbus Blue Jackets completed their 10th season in the National Hockey League with a 34-35-13 record (81 pts.), finishing fifth in the Central Division, 13th in the Western Conference and 24th in the NHL Columbus had the best start in franchise history, posting a 14-6-0 mark in the first 20 games (previous best was a 12-6-2 record in 2009-10) The Blue Jackets posted winning records in October (6-4-0), November (8-4-0) and February (8-3- 1) The 14-8-0 record in October and November marked the highest winning percentage (.636) for the first two months of the season in club history (previous best was 13-9-4,.591 winning percentage in 2009-10) The club had a season-high six-game regulation unbeaten streak from Feb. 11-25 (5-0-1) Columbus posted a season-high five-game winning streak from Nov. 17-24 The Jackets lost a season-high five-straight games in regulation from Jan. 2-11 and had two, six-game winless skids (Mar. 1-11, 0-3-3 and Mar. 31-Nov. 9, 0-4-2) Over the past four seasons, the Blue Jackets have averaged 35 wins and 83 points compared to just under 29 wins and 68 points in their first six seasons.
