A Word from your Chapter Director David Grumpy Williams Well folks it is almost time to get the Bikes out of Storage and get ready for Spring. Of course with this weather you don t know if it will be Warm or Cold. I hope we have an early Spring. We need some help getting the Dinner Rides Planned, if you will give Ken a place to go eat, we will get someone to lead if you don t want to lead. Thanks in advance for your help, remember this is your chapter. Next weekend is Winter Rendezvous and the rooms are accounted for including the party room. I have been told we have the same room as last year. I have the coffee pot, coffee, plates, condiments, ice, chips, dip and a big cooler. We are hoping all of you will bring good things to eat!!! We are ready for a goodtime and looking forward to showing other chapters what A2 can do!!! We will have some goodies for sale and I have both a motorcycle & non motorcycle prize for the District silent auction or give away. If anyone else would like to donate something just bring it with you. See you at Winter Rendezvous!!!!
A Word from your ACD s Rob & Jany Runion Hello... Isn't it February?? Still winter?? I have seen so many motorcycles out the past couple days (& even some in January). According to the forecast; it looks like we have some more warmer days coming up...we'll take it! Speaking of warmer weather, Jim Morrison led several of the chapter to the Covered Bridge Restaurant a couple weeks ago. Who would've thought you could do some riding in January? Spring will be here before we know it...start thinking about some rides. Isenhowers are planning a trip to Memphis in April...where else would we like to go? Don't forget next weekend is Winter Rendezvous. (weekend of Feb. 17) Thad and Robin will be competing Friday evening at the Couple of the Year selection. I'm sure they would love to look out in the audience and see the Purple People rooting for them. Also Friday evening, Thad & Ken will be competing in the talent show. I talked to Jimmy Owens a couple nights ago regarding Becky. She was going through a clinical trial for the tumor on her liver and was told the trial was stopping the growth of the tumor...unfortunately, he informed me that the trial was NOT working as they had expected. They are in TX as of now...will be home next weekend. She will return to TX in March to try a new procedure. If this procedure happens to not work, they have a few more ideas in mind. So it sounds like she's in very good hands. Hopefully they will find the right treatment to beat this. Let's continue to keep them in our prayers. As of this writing there only 36 days until spring! Yay
Words from your Chapter Educators Thad & Robin Smith This is supposed to be the time of year that we have to have a grave concern about extreme winter weather. Although this is that time of year, the weather is fluctuating between spring and winter. Don t get me wrong, I don t like the cold and it can stay nice and warm all year round, thats OK with me. But, it is the season of cold and snow and ice. So let s cover a couple things about your safety and extreme winter weather. Driving during this time of year is always a little dicey. With the possibility of weather changing and becoming more severe let s talk about things you can keep in your car as an emergency kit. Please remember that most of this stuff will easily fit into a large metal coffee can. As a matter of fact, you will need that large metal coffee can as the number on item. Inside this coffee can we are going to place a couple emergency (mylar) blankets, 3 candles (2 inches), a bottle or two of water, a couple envelopes of soup mix and hot chocolate, a reflective mirror, two strips of bright colored ribbon, extra (external) cell phone batteries and some matches (or a lighter). I know it can be hard to find but you need a metal coffee can or large metal soup can. This can will hold most everything you need and can be used to hold the burning candles. The can will also be used to melt snow with the help of the candles. The rest of the items are pretty easy to explain. Mylar blankets (or a small throw blanket) are to help keep you from freezing to death. The candles are for heat, making soup or melting water. Tie the bright ribbon to your door handle or radio antenna and use the mirror to signal for help and to be seen. I hope the extra battery and matches are self explanatory. All of this can keep you alive for several days if needed. Just to cover a couple other important things.. Do not keep your car running if you are stuck in snow. CO2 could be sent back into your car and that s a bad thing. Do not over exert yourself because sweat is wet and wet gets real cold and that s a bad thing. Also, over exertion can cause a heart attack, and that s a bad thing. Stay in your car as much as possible. You could get hit by another car and that s a bad thing. Call who you need, including 911 to give your location and situation. All of the above is meant to keep you alive. You may not be extremely comfy but you will be alive and that s a good thing

Sour Grapes Ron & Sandi Mendenhall. I did not get any new stories on anyone this month. Jany Runion forgot to bring the pretty -- no beautiful badge of honor back to the meeting, so we decided to let her keep them for another month. We are glad Sandi and Penny were not seriously hurt, but both had a little accident last month. Sandi went down riding her bicycle and skinned her knee up pretty good. Penny took a fall down some stairs and has several bruises and is very sore. If you need more information you can ask each of them how it happened.
