DIRECTOR S CORNER By Max Rowlett, Chapter Director Geez! We ve already completed the first month of the New Year! My time is flying by! Better get the Goldwing out and get ready to ride! January was a very busy month as we had the OK. District Polar Bear Ride to Toby Keith s restaurant in OKC. Tom and Paula Clouse represented Chapter L-OK and praised the event as full of fun, games, friendship, and good food. Then we had our monthly movie ride to the Carnegie Theatres to watch Jumanji and everyone who attended had a good laugh from it. After a good movie we rode over to Anadarko s Braum s for ice cream. I m proud to announce it was open this time! The last time I took a couple to the new Braum s there was a sign to come back tomorrow for the Grand Opening! Missed it! Most of the Chapter Officers went to the OK. District Financial Meeting held in Jenks, OK. on January 27 th. Good to see old friends there and catch up on the happenings in OK. District. We had to leave the meeting about an hour early to drive back and attend the Chapter L-OK Dinner Ride to the Hoppin Jalepeno in Snyder, OK. Everyone appeared to enjoy themselves with good food and conversation. You know it was good when no one asked for after dinner ice cream! We ended the month with a great Super Moon, Blue Moon, and Blood Moon early the morning of January 31 st. The Super Moon is at its closes point to the earth and is at its brightest appearance, Blue Moon means two full moons in the same month, and Blood Moon is when the moon is at the point it takes on a bright red (blood) appearance. You might say this happens Once in a Blue Moon! Now on to February! We have our normally scheduled meeting/gathering on February 5 th and our movie ride on February 10 th. I must travel to Chapter M in Muskogee to present Level IV letters and patches to Ed & Karen Mason on February 8 th. Would sure like you to accompany me! Come ride along with me. Adds to our Travel Award. February 24 th is our Dinner Ride to Giuseppe s Italian Restaurant in Marlow, OK. We ve been there twice over the years and it s back by popular demand. We hope to have a great turn out! Participate! You need to participate in your chapters activities to have fun! Until next time. Keep the shiny side up! Assistant Chapter Director James Wooten Hello to everyone on the last day of January. Could you believe the weather today? Here in Altus, it was 73 degrees with very little wind, the perfect day for a ride. However, Nana and Papa had to take care of the grandkids, and so I didn't get to get the wing out and loosen it up after its been sitting for a while. But in just a couple of days, it will be Groundhogs day and we will see what he has in store for us. Hoping it s a favorable forecast. I have been looking at some of the videos on the new 2018 Goldwing, and right now the local dealers are in Austin, TX for the dealers intro on the new wing. Altus and Lawton Honda dealers are providing videos on the web of the new Goldwing. I will have to see how they feel about it. I'm sure they will be in favor of the new series since they will probably want to sell one or two. I know for myself, it s not going to happen. I will keep what I have now. I know that Honda is wanting to get a younger generation of riders on Goldwings, and I think that's fine. Hopefully, some of them will want to join GWRRA. Richard Mears is the new Ride Coordinator for Chapter L, and he is working on putting some rides together for the coming riding season. If you have a ride that you would like to make, please let him know. Maybe we could have an early ride during the daytime, and get back home before it gets too late and the temperature drops. I know it s hard to get everyone on a ride at the same time, but we always have fun even if it s only a few of us. So remember to get your wing out and go over the machine for anything that needs your attention. Hope everyone that can, will be at the monthly meeting on Feb 5. If not, you will be missed. Until then, take care! James Wooten 9
