1 SCOPE It is an evident necessity for higher education institutions to set up an action plan to promote gender equality along with appropriate measures. On this basis, the FISU Gender Equality Committee (CEG) has established the Gender Equality-Sport Award as a concrete action aiming at contributing to the decision-making process at political level in order to encourage higher education institutions and research institutes to develop initiatives focusing on gender equality while giving the gender equality topic an extra boost. The FISU Gender Equality-Sport Award is given to an existing project developed by a federation, an organisation, an institution or an individual to promote gender equality in the framework of university sport. Particular attention is given to projects that could act as models for other countries, regions and/or continents. The award aims to increase the proportion of women involved in university sport and to promote better gender balance in academia, and therefore it complements the resources that institutions allocate to gender equality.
